It's gonna be expensive to keep him.

Don't we have him for 1 more year?

And he singled out Spurs for being the only team he would play for outside of Europe. He could take a lower deal to stay with the Spurs.

Such a strange player, tbh..you would assume a player with that size with today's style of play would be a massive liability..he's not only competent, but actually a positive impact player against the majority of teams in the league..

Boban looks like he could easily become a Kanter-esque big off the bench for much less money.

^ yup. With the cap about to explode, I'm not really sure if the Spurs will be able to afford him unless Boban takes a steep discount. I wouldn't if I were him considering huge freaks like him don't have long careers. Get that money tbh.....

Aren't there rules that limits his next salary?

He did well last game against GSW. Just hang with GSW's bench.

His deal was 1 year for $1.2 million but he will be a restricted free agent so Spurs can match any offer and keep him.

I hope he he stays a spur and continues to develop in SA

Should match $4.5 million a year if offered but not a penny more. If they could sign him for 3 years at 10 to 12 million i would consider that a good investment.

Him and his family seem to love it here, so I wouldn't doubt he would not want to stay here unless someone overpays him big time. He has such great touch, and moves pretty well. His free throw shooting is pretty damn amazing also. Excellent job by the Spurs scouting department to notice this guy. He's still young and can be a nice big off our bench for many years to come, but I was he was five years younger though :lol.

He really is pretty good. Lotta positives.

His off-the-ball play needs some work tho, imho. Mostly on offense (he can clog the lane,) but on D too. Amazing touch for such a big man.

Despite his size he moves well, has good footwork, great vision, understands the game, passes well, defends rim well. He has a future in the NBA.

Boban will get paid this summer and I wouldn't be surprised if other teams go after him, like the Rockets.

It's gonna be expensive to keep him. Will people pay top dollar for a bench big? I dunno. I really don't see anyone inserting him in a starting rotation.

1. Boban's unique salary cap provision and the 2016 team cap situation have been discussed at length in this thread: http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256965

2. Google for "Gilbert Arenas provision" if you don't want to read through that thread.

3. The NBA salary cap will explode this summer, with 20 or more teams having max salary slots. There are only a handful of players who really deserve top dollar. After those guys sign, a bunch of average players will get big contracts.

4. Even under a much smaller cap, Asik got 4/40 and Ed Davis got 3/20, for just two examples.

5. Boban will very likely command a contract that starts at the MLE and could have huge back end payments due, and even an MLE-sized contract could be problematic for the Spurs.

Bottom line, the Spurs will be able to keep Boban if they choose to, but it will be expensive.
