The NBA should do away with the first round of the playoffs. The top 4 teams from each conference, record-wise, should be the playoff teams and play their first round. Then the next round is the conference finals. Then you have your NBA Finals.

Most first round series are painful to watch. Who wants to see 25 point games between the Heat and the Hornets?

Either do away with the first round or shorten it back to best of 5.

The 7 game series protects favourites. More and more upsets will happen with a 5 game format.

But I agree, first round is usually a bore.

It's the same reason why they won't reduce the games in season for hoops and baseball.

The answer is always money

Keep the 1st round, but shorten it to a best of 3.

Oxymoron. :lol

You'll always have a first round playoffs. What they need to do is get rid of shitty teams that get the lower seeds so eliminate the lower seeds. There should only be 6 teams each.

eh.. 6 teams each? So you end up with 6 total teams. Then 3... who plays whom? Bad form.

Someone doesn't understand brackets.

I'm guessing he means something like what the NFL does. 2 teams getting a bye. But with the way the NBA has stretched out the 1st round to an ungodly length, that really wouldn't work. Would the number 1 seed really want 2 weeks of no games?
