Our offensive suckiness is worrisome. I would really consider assuring Martin the 4th wing spot, tbh. We need his bucketgetting skills over anything Anderson can provide at this point.

I'm happy we're winning and it seems without much effort, but I pray that it doesn't end up hurting us that we're playing essentially a non playoff team in the playoffs. Even with playing Memphis Our slow starts and shooting woes continue.

on the plus side, defense is great and Danny green is playing well overall. Just stay healthy guys and we will be very fresh for round 2!

Hi. I like winning and it's great but I would like to see one truly crisp game from SA. I keep hoping it's just playing down to the opponent, but it just looks "off". Not to the point where SA can't beat this MEM team, but projecting forward? I have some concerns but only time will tell.

At least the bench (especially Patty) seems to be coming around. But that starting lineup offense still looking so damn blah.

I still don't understand Anderson's value out there. Is it because he's tall and able to play the back up SF spot?

Anderson is nothing special on defense. On offense, he just gets the ball, maybe dribbles slowly, and then passes. Dude can't shoot and definitely can't shoot 3's. It's basically 4v5 out there when the opponent figures out Anderson is almost completely useless out there.

I think it would be good for the Spurs if Memphis came out on fire in game 3. Making the Spurs focus more and execute better on offense if the want to win. Yes & no. This is the worst playoff team of all time (that I have seen). So you don't have to be good to smash them. The defense has been fine, but MEM have basically no offensive talent.

The scary part is MEM is not some great defensive team. They are the definition of middle of the road and the SL still cannot score. I'm officially worried.

It's been scary going into the playoffs and really have not seen anything yet to show me the SL offense will be fine. It could work out and maybe the defense is good enough, but if the SL OFF performs like this vs a great offensive team? It could be lights out.

Sure, but this is the playoffs. When guys know it means more, you don't see the slip ups like you do in the regular season. They are playing hard. That's not my beef and that's why you see them locking down this horrific MEM team. My concern is that they are playing hard and still can't sort out the offense against a very bad playoff defense.

It's legit scary to me and has crossed over from "we will be ok" to "I don't know if this thing is recoverable". I'm hoping the defense is good enough to win because I am losing major confidence in Pop's offense.

The Griz played very physical, and Kyle played tough against that, and hustled for loose balls. He forced some fouls that kept possessions from stalling. I'm less concerned right now with him missing some shots on any given night, than seeing that he's up to playing tough in the playoffs. I mean, the starters shot 14 of 37 (38%) against a middle of the road defense. If we had not seen the SL struggle vs good teams, I would dismiss it. But this SL offense is in some kind of major funk. They struggle against everyone to end the season and have not found any sort of "fix" despite playing a joke of a defense.

There just isn't much you can take away from this series, good or bad tbh....

I think Pop is looking to see who can keep their head out of their asses in games that don't seem like much of a contest. Hopefully he'll kick their asses about falling asleep, and it won't happen in the later rounds.

Anderson drew a bunch of fouls. Got 6 boards and a block. I like the way he played on the defensive glass - the Griz got a LOT of points off offensive boards, and Kyle fought them off for some of those. Guys miss shots.

Frankly, he showed quicker feet than anybody will concede. He stayed in front of Lance on several occasions very well. As usual, he had very active hands. I thought he played an overall pretty good game. His shot is a work in progress, so he mounts pretty passive drives, looking for a teammate to get himself open for the pass. He should look to shoot more when he drives. He is invariably being guarded by a smaller guy, and he has shown he can shoot over those guys very effectively. He is just very young and very deferential at this point. But he has very sound fundamentals.

Meh, I don't think we'll get challenged in this series. That's when you're going to see if the team has the mettle or not... IMO

I know 100% SA won't get challenged this series. That's my concern. This should be a series used to build on things and gain confidence. There should be no one confident about the offense after what we have seen. Still have 2 games to work things out, but if we don't see something in the next two games from the SL I will go into full no confidence mode.

I'm a believer in doing things that are repeatable. Sa's offense against great opponents and now terrible opponents has been really really mediocre and it scares me projecting beyond this joke of a series.

I honestly think that much of the problem with the SL offense is that there are so many iso plays anymore, the one-time 'beautiful game' just doesn't occur. You hardly ever see a loop play being used any more, and everybody who gets the ball puts it on the floor before they decide what they are going to do next. I think it is a purposely different offense that is designed to play to the strengths of LMA and KL, but it is far slower and there is far less movement than we are accustomed to seeing. And when our main guys are missing shots (like they were tonight), it just looks bad.

The Griz played very physical, and Kyle played tough against that, and hustled for loose balls. He forced some fouls that kept possessions from stalling. I'm less concerned right now with him missing some shots on any given night, than seeing that he's up to playing tough in the playoffs. A lot of people screaming about him tonight, but I wasn't disappointed.
Good review. :tu

And those rebounds were hard fought. Also, he always gets deflections.... it seems he gets more than he's credited.... someone else grabbed the loose ball.he's disruptive. Fur sure he's not in the rotation just bc he's a nice kid and Pop likes him. He got more aggressive after Pop yelled at him and pushed him. Will need more of that. He also had a very nice pass to Tim inside but Timmy turned it over.

Rebounding is the aspect of the game where Kyle HAS stepped up his intensity and aggression. That's a good sign. He also showed good footwork tonight, staying in front of a much quicker Lance Stephenson on a few occasions. His detractors here on ST do not recognize how fundamentally sound the guy is.

For all the moaning and groaning tonight on this board, and even with the game being essentially boring, the final score for the spurs was only 12 points less than the first game, and folks were pretty happy with that game. The first game was just more dramatic, at least until about two minutes into the third quarter.

Not about the results. About how it happens, whether it's close or a blowout. The defense is on point, but if it was not against one of the worst offensive playoff teams in history we should be freaking out. Good news is, the guys are putting in the effort and doing their work early.

Bodes well for the mindset. Getting tons of rest and winning with defense. That is bankable.

I don't understand the emphasis on the iso ball. We only seem to remember beautiful game stuff with the second unit. First unit is Tony dribbling for 20 seconds and forcing stuff up, or an Aldridge iso.

My only hope is we're keeping the motion stuff in our pockets for until we need it, but like you, I'm a little nervous about what we're seeing at that end.

It's highly unlikely that they're going to change the system in the playoffs when they just spent the entire regular season playing ISO-ball, tbh..virtually impossible with the 2nd highest-usage player on the team playing his 1st season with the Spurs..

I don't think there is anything being held back TBH...I think we are who we are and shots are going to fall or they aren't. I think for the most part, the offense has gotten decent looks (uncontested - even if it looks ugly) they just aren't converting at all.

We are an ISO team. Spurs took more shots from mid range than any team. I don't think that will change. The good news is guys are shooting so much better from 3 this series. That is huge. The bench is clicking again which is huge. I just want to see the SL not look clunky on offense and convert.

I'm definitely nervous, but we just have to wait and see.

I agree with you, and that's the scary part. This team can't get out of the West with that offense. Golden State beat it to a pulp in three out of four games. They have better athletes than the Spurs at several positions. Same as Miami did in that series. It's our only chance really.

It just feels at this point like we get beat, and people will just brush off the loss as "well, it's Golden State", instead of asking Pop why he ditched an offense that absolutely annihilated three opponents on one of the all-time great title runs of all time.

Why he ditched it? How about because he doesn't have a single player who is an elite penetrator able to collapse a defense? How about because he has 2 of the top 10 iso players as his best players? How about because he has a starting line-up with terrible spacing due to Duncan unable to shoot from 3 feet away and Green on a season-long shooting slump? What's he supposed to do? Outshoot and outpass Warriors with this?

Btw, this season's offensive efficiency, shooting and assist % are almost identical to the 2014 team's. All that while playing iso ball, resting players and shooting an incredible amount of inefficient long 2s vs 'the beautiful game'.
