Should Tim Duncan ever decide to retire from the NBA, which is no sure thing, we can be sure there is another league hallmark that he may decide to give a miss. In the media back-and-forth that led up to his team’s first-round pairing with the Memphis Grizzlies, Duncan told Jeff MacDonald of the San Antonio Express News (http://www.expressnews.com/sports/article/Big-Three-s-last-ride-New-Two-could-make-it-a-7253075.php) (via The Score (http://www.thescore.com/nba/news/1010422)) that he wants absolutely nothing to do with a farewell tour:

"Not my deal," Duncan told Jeff McDonald of the San Antonio Express-News. "Not my style."

That’s the extent of the quote, brevity that is very Tim Duncan-like.

Not exactly surprising, but figured it was worth posting anyways.

He should announce it before the WCF. Maybe then the refs will call GS for moving screens:

:tu like we say we won't know. His deception is making it seem like this one is not the last bc he doesn't want all the farewell tour attention.

I didn't see Kobe's last game but I heard the Lakers got a TON of questionable calls/noncalls. The refs would do the same here.

And then reneg during the celebration ceremonies.
That would be so Machiavellian.

Randle did get away with a pretty egregious moving screen that freed Kobe for the go ahead bucket. I wasn't paying attention too closely throughout the game though

Why renege when he's really retiring? This is it tbh

I think you're right. But hey Brett Favre retired and unretired like 3 times. :lol You never know...

You may very well be right. This could be the swan song, but I think he just might have one more year left in him.
He has the contract for it.

It comes down to a ton of variables that not a single one of us can fathom, unless one of us are him.

I do know he's a NBA lifer and his desire to go as long as he can, so I can see him talking himself into a title defense, or simply one more stab at the prize.

You may be right though, I will concede that. This may be it for Manu and Duncan.
Damn. That will be like losing family. Almost 20 years of following a team closer than you follow your own extended family from the continuity (Followed the Spurs since 87, but I mean the Duncan Era)...
Shit.

Good to finally get it in his own words. I guess he's been telling us that indirectly for his whole career.

Good find, and thanks!

They won't. GSW is the new ref-assisted team. Watched the whole OKC/DAL game. . .OKC no longer getting rampant assists by refs like they used to. It's GSW now, so you can bet money they'll be getting away with the vast majority of those to ensure Curry excites the casual viewer with a lot of open threes.

Duncan is class. I was almost embarrassed for Kobe. I say almost because he was loving it all too much.

Obviously Tim would never even consider this, but even if he did, it wouldn't generate anywhere near the hype, of course..he has never made an effort to fabricate an image through the media and casuals..

It's pretty obvious Tim wants to thank his teammates in the locker room after winning a championship & ride off into the sunset like Russell.

It would be badass is Duncan said once in the WCFs. My farewell tour starts now and end the moment I clinch my 6th ring in the Finals.

I like that phrase.

The NBA and Kobe apparently don't get it.
