View Full Version : Why people are acting like these two games mean anything ?

I mean you can see Pop and the players considering this shit so far as some summer league games but then you have people here bumping threads left and right with I told you so Kyle is getting minutes, Patty delivers, Parker sucks cauz 3-9 etc... I mean really ? :rolleyes

This Memphis team in his actual state would probably fight for worst team on a season with 15-16 Lakers tbh... They are depleted

look at starting 5

Barnes :lol
Randolph
Andersen :lmao
Carter :lmao
Farmar :lmao

The only one that could get starting minutes in NBA worst teams would be Randolph

As I said in another thread

very few take aways... Patty is shooting well and is active (good signs), Pinkie seems to be a minor issue, Martin and Kyle can play against D leaguers (nice) in the POs... What else tbh ?

They mean something from the Spurs getting ready for some tougher opponents. They should be making these games look even easier. They aren't going to have the luxury of having a couple of quarters to get their shots going or turn up the intensity against OKC or GSW.

These aren't the 80's or 90's. All teams are soft as Charmin. My only concern was Zaza and they're playing OKC so we are good :toast

The worry is that San Antonio might get sucker punched by a more prepared and tested OKC in the first game in san antonio. Even Pop Aknwoledged this in the post game presser for game 2.

Only true takeaway is Patty's shooting. The ball is going in the hole, regardless of the opponent

The games still count, and if Dallas can take at least one more from OC then the Spurs can get a significant rest advantage. No time for screwing around.

Still, you can tell that Pop did some basic game-planning and the players are putting forth decent effort on defense, but they're not playing near their ceiling. We might not see an all-out effort until game 1 vs OC, and we don't really know what the Spurs are consistenly capable of at this point.

Thread needs work tbh. The games are confidence builders. I definitely want patty kevin kyle and Boban playing like they are these last 2 than they were the last regular season games. Grizzly bears are still scrappy, and spurs are playing with and extending leads/closing quarters. Those things all mean a lot

Good point. Despite some arguing these guys won't contribute, they may. You just never know in the next rounds what would happen, foul trouble happens, someone getting banged up happens. They needed this experience. + we really should not be TO the ball so much. It will kill us in later rounds.

They haven't told us anything we didn't already know and that's the problem.

Since they've known all season that the offense needed to improve, I'm not concerned with a lack of intensity to start the Thunder series, but I am concerned that, after 84 game, it might not be fixable, particularly with it trending down as the season wore on.

Dex

I'd rather have the Bye we got this first round instead of the fucking time-bomb we got last season against the Clippers.

Actually, this is better than just a Bye. This is extra time for the Spurs to work out the kinks and get into postseason mode with minutes and rotations against a non-threatening opponent, as well as time for LMA's pinky to get that much better.

Sure, it's weird not being pumped for postseason basketball. I semi-watched Game 2 at Top Golf last night, and caught up with the rest this morning. That normally would never happen for postseason Spurs basketball.

But for the team, it's definitely what the doctor ordered.

These games do mean something, in the sense that: if you're not able to get your offensive game going now that you're playing against mediocre competition withou any pressure at all, It's not very likely that you will get it later against elite teams and with the pressure on. Specially since this problem (lack of offense), is a problem that comes from a lot ago and, it's not looking like something that could be turn on like a switch.

I will take a sweep of the first round over last years first round exit. Watching spurs out of the playoffs is doable as a fan of the sport. Prefer to watch my home team go all the way to a championship. The off season was so long last summer.

Coaching staff is marking down every turnover and error on both ends these last two games. Evidently it will provide ample fuel going into the next series as a work in progress about the offensive positioning and defensive misfires and communication.

Green is starting to drop his shots in the bucket, Patty is firing in the cylinder with frequency, LMA seems to be managing the pinky better day by day, Leonard is picking his spots on the offense side of the court and still plaguing players as a defender. Timmy has had some odd turnovers here and there. The starting lineup seems to get into some scoring droughts but not from a lack of open looks, seems like more from a lack of competition from the opponent they are facing. Just playing in auto pilot through out periods of the game.

It gives us rest, and practice time, so I'll take it.

We have had other blow out series before (Lakers in the first round of 2013) but somehow they were more entertaining. Maybe its just more fun to thump the Lakers.

If by European Champions you mean
Spain,
Marc Gasol (I've heard he's as hurt as the Grizzlies center) backup Guillermo Hernangómez
Pau Gasol
Rudy Fernández
Pau Ribas
Sergio Llull

I'll take Spain.

If by Euroleague, three of the final four are:

Fenerbahçe
Ekpe Udoh
Luigi Datome
Bogdan Bogdanović
Ricky Hickman
Bobby Dixon

Laboral Kutxa
Darko Planinić
Kim Tillie
Dāvis Bertāns (backup Ádám Hanga)
Jaka Blažič
Darius Adams

CSKA Moscow
Kyle Hines
Andrey Vorontsevich
Nikita Kurbanov
Nando De Colo (regular season MVP!)
Milos Teodosic

and the fourth to be determined

Barcelona Bàsquet up 2-1 in best of 5
Ante Tomić
Justin Doellman
Stratos Perperoglou
Pau Ribas
Tomáš Satoranský

Lokomotiv-Kuban
Anthony Randolph
Víctor Claver
Ryan Broekhoff
Evgeny Voronov
Malcolm Delaney

I think we'd have a watchable series with the Euroleague champs and the Grizzlies.

Two scenarios (both include the Spurs playing bad vs. OKC game 1 in San Antonio)

1) Spurs sweep Grizz. All games are blowouts. Well we played bad vs OKC because we weren't tested...or interested.

2) Spurs play Grizz down to the wire. Final shot of game 7. Well we played bad vs OKC because we weren't rested.

I've seen it play out on this board for 5-6 years.
