The two plaintiffs in the suit, Carina Canaan and Levi Lane, were profiled in the BuzzFeed News investigation (http://www.buzzfeed.com/kendalltaggart/in-texas-its-a-crime-to-be-poor) that found El Paso municipal court judges had routinely jailed people for unpaid traffic tickets. State law and two U.S. Supreme Court decisions bar courts from jailing people simply because they are too poor to pay their fines. Judges must first assess whether defendants have the money to pay, and if they do not, judges must offer them the chance to perform community service instead.http://www.buzzfeed.com/kendalltaggart/el-paso-gets-sued-over-jailing-people-for-unpaid-traffic-tic#.aeAnwMOXW

that's a charitable view: it's also against the law.

Fucking lazy arrogant judges that deserve to be disbarred?

What's their punishment going to be?

the judicial establishment is immune, not accountable, just like DAs and cops, as the legal establishment and Police state crushes poor people.

What's their punishment going to be?probably nothing, but who knows?

the judicial tongue lashing at the appellate level isn't nothing: they broke faith with their own guild.

you can't throw people in jail for being too poor to pay
