It doesn't matter if the 1st round goes 5 or 7 games. If it goes 5, Semis start earlier but the games are spaced further. If the 1st rnd goes to 7, then the Semis games are spaced every other day. In other words, the schedule will even out.

Summary: It doesn't matter if their (Clips/GSW) respective Series go to 5-7 games, Curry will miss the first 3 games of the 2nd round.

DPG21920

I know everyone is championship or bust, but I think making another WCF (which would be 4 in 5 years) would be a massive accomplishment. If they can make it to a finals and somehow win with all of the new pieces and big 3 aged so much that would be truly special.

They have the talent/coaching to win, but I don't think anyone is a favorite outside of a healthy GS. Everyone else is too close to each other IMO.

And hope has to be that the Clips are up 2-1 at that point (3-0 would be nice, but not expecting that with two games in GS)

Things certainly did get a lot more competitive, especially the second round.

Spurs playing like ass for the past month will make the semi finals more competitive with the Thunder.

Warriors losing Curry for a couple weeks will make the semi finals more competitive with the Clippers.

Warriors might honestly still get past the Clips. The 2nd round won't start until next weekend. If the Warriors can keep the series 2-2, Curry can come back to finish off the Clippers. And knowing how much the Clippers choke, this is a strong possibility.

A not 100% Curry vs OKC/Spurs should be somewhat competitive as well. At least it won't be a complete steamroll.

Before Curry's injury I don't know if that was going to be the case as anybody in the league from Simmons to Curry could have slipped on a wet surface, but now their core players need to suck Curry's minutes up which indeed can lead to wesring out and fatigue.

Clippers won't be some easy out for SA either in the event SA beats OKC (not a given at all) and LAC gets by GS (Curry or not).

There are no more easy teams from here on out. These teams left are all WCF quality teams. Sure, in the regular season, metrics have the Spurs above them all, but they were damn good teams (OKC/LAC). I have to prep my heart for a series that actually matters :lol

3/2 means $20 to win $30 ($20 becomes $50). 9/4 means $40 to win $90, or $20 to win $45. Spurs have better odds or higher win probability per Vegas.

Seriously? The way he changes direction? An MCL injury is a major problem for him.

He did a HUGE amount of specialized training because of the ankle problems he had, to strengthen his hips to take some of the load off his ankles. (His right ankle has been operated on twice.) He had already injured his right ankle, before this knee injury.

Look, I know a bit about sports injuries. He had problem trusting his ankle after all those sprains a few years ago. That's one of the things they had to get him over during all the specialized training. When he gets back on the court, he's going to have a bitch of a time trusting his leg enough to cut hard - which is a major part of his game. (If he doesn't, he really is super-human.) This is very likely to be a big problem for him for the rest of the playoffs.

024
04-26-2016, 12:40 AM
Crazy how quickly things can change due to injuries. Warriors would have been fighting for their lives in the 2nd round without Curry. Now they look to be fine since the Blazers and Paul-less (and a hobbled Griffin) Clippers will be easier opponents. That gives Curry enough time to return for the WCF, when the Warriors actually need him.

Marc Gasol thinks Pau should sign with the SpursBy Diego Pergentili (http://www.sbnation.com/users/Diego%20Pergentili) and J.R. Wilco (http://www.poundingtherock.com/authors/j-r-wilco) on Apr 25, 2016, 6:19p

According to sources from around the league, it is very unlikely that Pau Gasol (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/21732/pau-gasol), who turns 36 in July, will re-sign his $7.7 million player option with theChicago Bulls (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/teams/chicago-bulls) after a tumultuous 2015-16 campaign. But there's a huge gap between not signing with his current team, and coming to San Antonio.
Unexpectedly bridging that gap is Pau's brother Marc Gasol (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/24227/marc-gasol), who let a few bombs drop in a conversation with Peter Edmeston, who covers the Grizzlies (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/teams/memphis-grizzlies) and has a radio show on WHBQ in Memphis:

With the San Antonio Spurs (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/teams/san-antonio-spurs)' Tim Duncan (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/21776/tim-duncan) reaching the end of his career -- and possibly in the midst of his own farewell tour -- another unselfish, play-making seven footer could be welcome in San Antonio.
Gasol averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds for the Bulls last season. What stands out most on his stat line, is the 4.1 assists per game he contributed. San Antonio prides themselves on ball movement, and getting players to slash to the basket for high percentage shots. Gasol could help fill the void left by Tim Duncan, and help sustain the Spurs alongside Aldridge and Leonard for another 2-3 years.
If the Spurs pursue Gasol in free agency, this would make it two summers in a row where they went after a highly coveted free agent. Something unheard of, for a team that has consistently built through the draft over the past two decades of success.
Imagining a smooth transition after Duncan and Manu Ginobili (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/21775/manu-ginobili) retire was not something Spurs' fans were entirely sure about. Thanks to R.C. Buford and Gregg Popovich (http://www.sbnation.com/nba/players/98773/gregg-popovich), it may very well happening.

The Spurs and myself will take this kind of pressure any playoff season. Any. Any any.
Do you recall what GS did when presented last year with this sort of pressure due to fortunate injuries...

They won a frrgn TITLE

Recall the Lakers against Boston game 7. One of the worst game 7s ever. No way the Lakers win that game and title if Perkins is playing game 7, no way. Gasol and Kobe punish the Celltics on the boards in a game of brickball. I mention this and the basketball world sees

As they should be. This knee injury changes the landscape.

Curry - Knee (takes 6-8 weeks to fully recover) had the same injury playing soccer (int'l football for you Europeans) and took about that long for it to be fully healed. With the ankle injury as well, Curry would be out of shape and off his game even if he did come back.

Paul - broken hand.

Griffin - tweaked quad.

It looks like the OKC series is going to be the only really tough series at this point. Spur just need to jump out on them early like in '14.
