As long as Jerry is limited to a spectator role in the war room im good..
This should be the 4th solid draft in the last 5 years as long as they dont draft another Claiborne.

Good threead fam. I'm in the minority, but I am on the Zeke Elliott train, if Ramsey is gone. He is a perfect fit behind our OL. We'd pick right back up from we left off when we were cheated in 2014.

we're not trading back fam. we won't be in this position(hopefully) in quite some time so we need to get an elite talent this high in the draft.

I don't get why guys want to draft Elliott @ 4. We got rid of Murray and refused to sign any high end FA tailbacks. We'd essentially be paying more for Elliott than Murray or Miller if we draft him that high. Not to mention next year's RB class is gonna be insane. If Elliott were to come out next year he'd go after Fournette and Chubb.

He's also a guy who takes a lot of punishment. Seems like a big investment for a couple years of production, where you could take another good lineman and have any back average 3 yards a carry for the next decade if you can keep the group together.

So no Cowboy fans want a legit stud WR to pair with Dez? Dallas has an awful receiving core (as you saw when Dez went out) and I think that is the biggest hole. Dallas got by with guys like Dunbar, etc.. Pretty well and while a RB would be great, Dez needs help and that would open things up so much for Dallas.

I'm not impressed with Williams at all. He shrunk big time IMO. He couldn't get loose without Dez on the other side regardless of who was throwing.
I think he's a decent WR3 at best. Dez needs his 1b. He's never had it and I think it would be massive for the offense. I know it's not the norm to take a WR that high, but damn, I think the Cowboys need a truly gifted WR besides Dez.

I agree, but strange thing is last season he had his highs in targets, rec, and yards.. However, he wasn't a deep threat and only scored 3 times compared to as his career high of 8 TD's.. His route running was improved last season, but he's not gonna shine with bus drivers behind center.

I don't really care for RB at 4.. If he doesnt step in and one, win the starting job, and two, rush for at least 1200 yards behind that line, he's a bust IMO.
He should fit in nicely with the Dallas culture though, cobsidering he likes to publically blame his coaching staff for losses :tu If we're lucky he'll be a cleptomaniac too.

I was kind of hoping they'd pick Zeke. That being said, unless he's spectacular, I don't know that he improves the team that much over what they have. It's not like the RB committee was awful. With Romo hurt and Dez out, they were easier to defend.

Elliott is the best back to enter the draft in years, he is the total package and will make an instant impact, a dramatic one. Now there's Romo in third and two. They have a stud to protect a lead and run out the clock, and he can catch and block.A chain mover.
Might be the pick of the draft.

Not crazy about the Zeke pick tbh. Like the player a lot, but unless he's Adrian Peterson, taking a RB in the top 4 is just not smart imo. But whatever, he's a Cowboy now so I hope he tears it up and I'm sure he'll be great behind that OL.
Absolutely have to go DL with our next pick though imo. A'Shawn Robinson, Emmanuel Ogbah, or Noah Spence (unlikely) should be the pick. Myles Jack's knee must be a lot worse than initially believed if this many teams are passing on him.

i'm okay with it. it was either him or ramsey and as we got closer to the draft, the elliott buzz got louder. most of the mocks had him going to us at 4 or to the giants...i heard baltimore was trying to trade up to snag him as well.
he is by far the best back in the draft and has all the tools needed to thrive in this offense. if we commit to the run like we did 2 years ago, he will become an impact player from day 1.

I guess if Jaylon Smith turns out to be an all-pro, we'll forget about it, but drafting for the future when all the signs pointed to being in win-now mode puzzles me a bit as well. Having a backup quarterback at least gives them a chance not to shit the season away when Romo gets hurt again.

I don't think Zeke is a spectacular runner along the lines of Adrian Peterson or someone like that. His calling card is his versatility. He can catch, he is a willing and able blocker- he'll never have to leave the field. He's a rich man's Matt Forte.

If that is true, that is a damn good pick. AP makes lines and offenses. But if you give a young, more talented Forte a league best line and solid passing game? That is going to be a straight up nightmare offense if true.

DeMarco Murray haunts them.
****** is supposed to supply this and more. I think he does except for the power aspect. And he is a rookie. Cowboy fan expects instant impact. 4 games with a week D and a rookie with weight on his shoulders... It's possible they will be off to a less than stellar start. This will allow for the team idiots Jerry has coveted to come to the forefront. I kinda like the possibility of Dez yelling at ******, and anyone else who is vulnerable, early in the year. Jerrah too... gotta have the drama for the traveling circus.

Avante is right this kid is oozing special. Cowboys hands were tied; they had to take him. They didn't want another Randy Moss incident.

In thinking about it more, the Cowboys were the perfect fit. Normally, it sucks taking RB's high in the draft. Short careers, risks and big money. However, most teams that are in that spot have so many holes, the RB fizzles out and the risk is greater because the team needs so much.
The Cowboys were artificially this bad. Romo hurt. Dez hurt. Cowboys have the best oline in the league probably so that puts them in a spot to maximize the impact of a RB immediately which is a huge part of making a young back successful.

I don't think Zeke is a spectacular runner along the lines of Adrian Peterson or someone like that. His calling card is his versatility. He can catch, he is a willing and able blocker- he'll never have to leave the field. He's a rich man's Matt Forte.
Matt Forte >>>> Adrian Peterson

If Romo (huge IF) and Dez are healthy, I don't see how Dallas isn't a playoff team.
If Elliott and that offensive line can't keep Romo's jersey clean for 16 games, then Dallas doesn't deserve to be a playoff team.

Surprised Avante isn't gushing over Rico Gathers. Dude is ridiculously big and athletic.
