View Full Version : Monster game by LMA!

41 points on efficient shooting, on young athletic frontline. Played 42 minutes bc none of the other bigs were decent tonight. Even Timmy had a bad game, but it will go underscored by this loss how amazing LMA was this game. Almost a half of all our points in the game and clutch buckets and plays to finish the game. Too bad the thunderrefs showed up on this one.

Timmy's got to finish better. He is 7 feet tall. And he's missing point blank put backs repeatedly. As far as I'm concerned, this loss is on him tonight.

Spurs didn't deserve to win that game and ruined a near perfect night for Aldridge. Can't have so many players playing poorly at the same time. Getting our ass beat that bad in the first quarter was inexcusable. Duncan was depressing to watch :(

Oh well, hopefully we can get a split in OKC.

Yes. I thought it deserved it's own mention bc in the assignment of blame for this loss this kind of monster game from LMA will go unheralded.

I don't think we even had a chance for a close game without LMA clutchness. It seemed like very time we went away from him it was a bad possession.

How well he played in a loss is concerning.. Tbh. The OKC guards will more than certainly play better at home while party and crew stunk it up at home. We are going to need to win one of the next 2 with defense.

Has there ever been 2 more efficient offensive games in a row in the playoffs?

SAGirl

For those who mentioned Timmy. He indeed had a bad game and just a good game from him would have turned this around. I hope he has it in him to turn back the clock even to last season, bc low efficient shooting nights from Tim have been a red alert the entire season. Several PNR with Tim early in the game ended on bad missed layups, and that was part of the reason for the slow 1st Q start.

I can't celebrate his game because it's beyond concerning that the Spurs can't win a game with him playing essentially perfect basketball. Top heavy scoring games like these in the playoffs are usually a result of volume shooting, but LMA's usage wasn't in any way increased.

Now what's going to happen when LMA has just a regular game (23 points on 9-18 shooting or something)?

I don't trust Green, Parker, Duncan, Boris, Mills, West to pick up that slack. And the 20-25 points Kawhi might add won't be enough.

LMA was just amazing. His consistency on those long jumpers never ceases to amaze. He brought it tonite.

Kawhi didn't have a Kawhi game, but he'll be ok. The issue is, and has always been this year...the back court. When you get someone like Barkley even mentioning on national TV that Parker sucked...well, it's pretty damn obvious. As it has been all year.

Well shit man, then we're done for if you want to assume that the entire teams sucks and kawhi plays under par in more ways than points scored. They'll come back more focused. The unit I mean.

No one else played well offensively. Too many ill-advised shots and the big 3 were non-existent. LMA was the only reason this game was close.

It's a shame when a heroic performance like this gets overshadowed by a loss and meltdown. LMA was a beast. Two games in a row. But that last play, where he sucked out the foul and made all 3 FT's? That reminded me of Duncan of old. He put the team on his shoulders, and then came up with a miracle at the end.

I said it in the game thread, but right now this feels an awful lot like .4. Duncan had just made a miracle shot, and we all thought the Spurs were going to win. Right now, this feels a whole lot the same way.

What's the highest a player's ever averaged in a series for the Spurs? I'm sure the Admiral, Iceman and Young Timmy had some monster series, but maybe LMA can approach that... Maybe he'll NEED to approach that...

Gotta get through OKC first, but I give Spurs a great chance against GS with LA balling like this.

Not worried about this series yet. Spurs will win game 3.

Spurs in 6.

WCF: San Antonio Spurs (2) v. Golden State Warriors (1)

Series tied 3-3. Home team has won every game.

Spurs pull off the upset, win series 4-3.

Mop up Cavs in 5. :lobt2:

Also of note concerning the game and LMA:

The 3 pointer at the end... what a beautiful pass from Parker, not sure how he pulled it off.

Patty, shot fake, shot fake... Adams is running full steam at you damn it. 2 pointer will do it.

There's always a moment when guys earn their Spur for good imo, and last night was that for LaMarcus. Wish it could have been in a W... If he had any doubters left out there, they just got baptized.

That extra work he got in with his left because of the dislocation has turned him up another notch, too. He's a juggernaut right now.

Ice averaged 33 against the '78 Bullets & Tim averaged 32 on 61% TS against the '06 Mavs. Admiral never averaged over 30 in a series.

(LMA averaged 29 on 54% TS against the Rockets after putting up two 40 point games to start the series)

His performances against OKC were more than impressive. Going into the season we all had the questions regarding a potential diva like mentality or him folding in the playoffs. I guess we can say he exceeded all expectations. Every time I watched the Blazers with Aldridge the years before I always thought he became invisible in the second half or at least in the 4th quarter. He played huge minutes with the Blazers, but I still feared he would do the same with the Spurs. But man ... he delivered last game ... hitting those threes ... making three straight foul shots in crunch time ... 40+ points in a Spurs uniform ... making Kareem proud with his post moves ... using his left hand because of a hurt finger on his shooting hand. Thats just wow.

Next step is do this in a hostile environment like OKC ... again I have doubts about him delivering there, but I hope he kicks OKCs (and my) ass ...

Let Kawhi play all 48 minutes!

Let Duncan slide to the second unit!

so our Team B should be Duncan at center, West and Kawhi at forwards, Manu and either Miller or Mills at guards

should be more competitive...............

That's next. If he can do it in OKC he will be a legend in my eyes. His teammates need to step up and help him. LaMarcus shouldn't have to play like that just to give us a chance to win. I am also very, very disappointed in Kawhi's mental game right now. I think it's mostly mental with Kawhi and those two missed free throws highlight that for me. Kawhi needs to get tougher in big moments.

I want the Spurs to have a shot at Goldenstate. I absolutely DO NOT want to go out in this round. All Spurs players need to be focused and hungry every minute of every game from this point on. I said that before game 2 and I was really disappointed in everyone except LaMarcus. If anything, I thought LMA should have gotten the ball even more last game. As for Kawhi, I'm not sure if he might need to be the second option and not try and force things, or if he should try and be more aggressive and force his way up to another level. I just think LMA is the best offensive player on the team and that he should be the first option.

So far he has been great, and also really appears to be calm, confident and locked in. His shooting has been ridiculously good, and he probably won't be able to keep that up, but man, that was quite a performance for two games in a row.
