Hey i really like this guy style of play, reminds me of a very raw amare with extreme atheletic abilities. The problem i have here is, the spurs are leavin him in euro to develop, do you guys think this is wrong?? or should we bring him over early "LIKE FUCKN NOW" to develop his game in transparent to the NBA game.
No offence to the trainers training this kid, but we all know big euro players that enter into the NBA are softcocks on the court *coughs*rasho*coughs*, i dont want a see a project with alot of upside stuck in europe and end up a bust like darko sittin a bench gettin limited number of minutes only :(:(

I don't think it is a choice on what the spurs want to do, but what Iam want's to do.
He is to young and undevloped and IMO need at least two more years in Europe.
I'm sure he would rather be in Europe, playing 30+ games a year and probably making more $ than he would be if he was with the Austin Toros. I would rather he did not take up a roster spot at this time.

To me he seems like an average college guy so far, I'd think that's why they are doing this to him.

To me, he seems like an 18 year old that very few of us have ever even seen on the court. Several people keep posting about the Amare comparison. I don't see where anyone gets that idea.

^ lol I wish I saw it.
There were a buncch of FIBA games you could download with him in them. I have no idea where the link is though, should be somewhere in the forum.
He looked extremely raw with no offensive game what so ever, he is a long way from being Amare.

I agree. I saw some of those games from the FIBA site. That's why I don't get the repeated Amare comparison.

I think they want him to be that way, rather than thinking he's that way.

Well the guy who started this thread said he "reminds" him of Amare. I was just wondering what he saw in him .. because I don't see the comparison. But I've only seen him play very little.

Maybe the long and tall part :lol
I have never seen an Amare kind of player, cept maybe for Swift in the league....
I don't think it's a fair comparison for him.

Bring him over for what, to sit on the bench?

They're doing it so that fans have time to learn how to spell his name.

Some news on him :
Last season he averages 6ppg, during the preseason he averages 13.5ppg in 12 games(the regular season of 34 games begin next week).
He is the starting center and will play a lot.
The PF is an american called JK Edwards (11.6 ppg and 6.7 rpg in 2003-2004 with UNLV as a sophomore).
The FIBA game is quite old, he has improved his play since.

Was Ian's moms ever put in jail?

I have the stats at work so i can give more details but Ian is shooting a really good percentage in pre season: between 55and 60%
he was cut to the eyebrows in a rough contact at the begining of september but came back strong. It seems he has recovered from ankles that bother him at the U-20 championship and he worked with spurs shooting coach during summer.
if his rate of progress is the same as last year and he keeps growing up (he is a full 6-11 now) he could be the surprise next summer joining the spurs.
"le havre basket" website is one of the best in france and they post video. as soon as they say something on Ian you can count on bruno or me to post it.

Are you guys crazy. Amare is a smaller version of DRob to me. The only thing he
has over DRob is he has 3pt range

Bruno or JUUOT has Ian been able to add much muscle?

Him staying in Europe will benefit both parties. The Spurs will have a much better player, and Iam will have more experience and more chances to succeed.

Player development requires court time. Ian won't get any here.

He is in Europe playing because he isnt good enough for our roster. Plain and simple. Let him fill out first.

Interesting gym for Pro A. 4 rows of seats and a table cloth on the scorer's table on that side of the gym.

It was not a Pro A gym, this game was played in a small town(ifs near Caen).
Le havre gym can receive 3600 people.

Looks like Mahinmi had his first regular season game (http://www.basketinfo.com/club.php?no_club=109). Looks like he didn't start, played 11 minutes, went 2-4 for 4 points and had three rebouds. Maybe JUUNOT or Bruno can give us an update.

all in all bad performance but nothing to worry with 4 point and 3 rebounds in 11mn
Bruno

In Europe, you can do only 5 fouls (games are 40 minutes long).
If you ad the refs call more fouls, foul trouble is more usual than in nba.
During the preseason, Mahinmi was sometimes in foul trouble.
Remenber he is still 18. He is not ready to contribute in nba (you will see Petro this year and Mahinmi is 10 month younger).
The next game is saturday (12 am SA time).

Ian was on TP radio show monday, some news :
- He said he is 2,08m height (6'10), I think it's without shoes so he is 6'11 with shoes.
- He is happy to be drafted by Spurs and describe the draft day as one of the best moment of his life
- Spurs (Presti) have scouted him a lot (far more than other teams), even in games against really bad teams.
- Spurs have said him they want him "as soon as possible". They haven't fixed a precise date.
- Ian will come in nba when he will be ready, maybe next year if he has a breakout year with Le Havre, it will depend only on his improvement.
- He did some practice this summer in SA with Duncan, Bowen and Jeff Foster(I don't know Foster was training with Spurs).
- He was in foul trouble because he lacks of experience.
- He descibe him as a 5/4 (C/PF).
- He work on some moves for Spurs (special homework).
So good news, I really like what he says, he is a good guy.

he played saturdy and his team won once again.
However Ian was again in foul trouble but still productive with 4 points and 4 rebounds in 11mn.
