View Full Version : Thunder: Can Thunder Beat the Warriors?
Portland did fairly well against them considering... ok no Wardell most of the time but still. Can the Thunder beat the Warriors? I think not, but they match up better than the Spurs match up with them.

Can they? Yes. Will they? Depends on which Westbrook shows up and how well the bench plays. Nobody really thought OKC would beat the Spurs so i'll fuck around and say they have a chance. Need the stars to be stars though for sure.

LOL and the Spurs can't lose at home, LMA is the second coming and Leonard is a legit superstar. Seems like there's always reasons OKC will lose but they just show'd y'all the fuck up.
Curry was still struggling a bit with the knee in game 5 though he shows flashes of his old self.
It's going to be an exciting series either way. Best game of the year was OKC/GSW with Spurs/GSW being a close second but then Bogut and Iggy were out when we met them.

His big lineup lost a 30 point lead to a small ball lineup consisting of 3 players collecting pension checks so he'll get roasted.

Donovan kinda took a shot at RW in the presser. He said "Russ has learned to reign himself in and realize there's 4 other guys out there depending on him" or something along those lines. He's basically saying Russell has been an out of control chucker.

What's the odds "winner" goes into full hero mode and destroys the OKC chances? We know GS moves the ball better than any team in the league, but the Thunder often have issues getting it out of Westbrooks paws.

Not a chance and here's why: OKC is not disciplined enough, no matter how much "credit" they get for "turning up the defense" on SA. It's amazing to me how missing good looks turns into "wow, what a great defensive team". If the Spurs made a few more good looks that they had, no one says anything.
But they miss so, hey, credit the defense.
GS won't miss uncontested looks at least not like SA did. They also have more shooters and more versatility so OKC can't "force" anyone they don't like to shoot.
But the reason POR did well (Curry not playing not withstanding) is because they have 3 guards that can hit from 3/create in Lillard, CJ & Crabbe.
OKC is not a great 3PT shooting team. They got contributions from Waiters, Foye & Ibaka, but the entire season worth of data pegs them as average. GS gets hurt with guard heavy teams it seems like that can match Curry/Klay output and I don't trust OKC 3PT shooting enough to say they can get the same results as POR.
OKC scored over 100 points in only 2 of the 6 games and GS defense is very good too. Not only that, if GS is hitting shots like SA should have, they take away what OKC does well which is push it. Even with all the misses it was hard for OKC to score 100 and GS is a legit defensive team.

Probably not. They are 73-9 for a reason.
If OKC can somehow get away with playing Adams/Kanter together without getting killed on defense, then they'll have a chance. However, my money's on GS's small ball and incredible depth will run OKC out of the building.

OKC can stretch this to 7. Durant matches up very well with them.

OKC have the talent level but they also have the instinct of a mental midget. Their turnovers & poor decisions cost them one game in each of the series vs. Dallas and Spurs (game one @ Spurs not counted, which was a landslide), and it's gonna cost them 4 against the Warriors.
Probably not. They are 73-9 for a reason.

This won't be close. Warriors in 4 by an average of 15.0 ppg.
If anything, the turnovers will kill the Thunder. GS can get out and run as well as any team in the league, and the Thunder provide those opportunities. The Spurs walk the ball up the court to allow time for Tim to transition, and Tony to survey the court for 18 seconds.

if they want this shit, they need to go for the kill next game (though with OKC that's hardly a series wrap :lol)..
I think the Warriors get a fat lead early next game. They feel the heat on their necks. First time they've felt it in quite some time. It would suck to win 73 games and lose to the 3rd seed in the WCF. The caveat is whether or not Curry still acts like he's not in a lot of pain. You can see him limping out there. Maybe that's why they kept the ball away from him in crunch time. I can't imagine any other reason.

Same problem as most Champs are susceptible to:::they want it handed to 'em. When you resist them, when you frustrate them they'll back off, or, portend they don't REALLY care...like throwing the ball away because the passes they USED to be able to throw ain't there. It's a game of fraction of inches, OKC has closed that fraction.

It's not a break. It's meticulous planning, precise installation of that plan and belief in and execution of that plan. What, you don't think a brilliant mind like Westbrook doesn't understand the -conspiracy- against him?
I can see it. With the way the Thunder played, its time for the Golden State Warriors to actually show up in full force. Green, Barnes, Thompson and Curry played terrible that night even when they were in the lead. They were too flashy while the Thunder kept it formal. Their best will be needed for the next game and rebounding especially. They allowed Adams and Kanter to play the Tristan Thompson role.

I don't know about that. I know they've not faced tough competition at all in the playoffs since they lost in the 1st round a few years back, even in the Finals they faced a depleted team. They were handed the 2nd round on a platter, and the 1st as well for intents and purposes. Now they have this team at their door we'll see if they are really that good. They have the offensive power to be, but their composure when all that stupid ass behind the back passing and taking long 3's in transition becomes the detail of the day, that's going to dictate the outcome. When it's Klay and Steph, ok. When Barnes, Green and the others try that it's a fuck fest.

I don't wager. It's my religion.
And just because the (party is over) doesn't mean it's over. Will State acknowledge the party is over and vest themselves once again? Can they even if they choose to? It's not a snap decision to ease off. Ask OKC. It's an insidious habit to fall into and very difficult to pull out of.
