... I want Timmy to have played 20 years for us
... I don't want him to be in the same HoF class as Kirby and KG
... I want him to catch Fisher on the all time PO win list

Of course he should do whatever he feels like. OP was just what I'm hoping. I know he wouldn't bring much value as a player, but I think his presence alone would help the Team.

I know you try to troll me with the bolded part, but I won't bite.
With that other part I think you're right. 12 would make sure the media would overhype his induction over TD's. Doesn't matter that Tim was the far better player. Kobe would do what he always did best: manipulate the media to take the spotlight

Gasol would actually be nice, but as a David West replacement.
Al Horford is who I'd like to see next to LMA.... If this series proved anything, it was that we got our asses licked, sucked, and turned out on the boards.
He's not a reactionary creature. He'll see how he feels come training camp and let them know then. He probably sees no reason to hype it up. The Kobe thing was for NBA money, not just Kobe love. Tim would earn no such money for the team or other teams. He knows it. He's going to retire when he wants and I'd be a little bit surprised if he leaves 7m on the table but we'll see.

He may not have much on the tank, but he's better than 80% of the starting centers in the league. I want him back. He was so damn good defensively until he had that strange injury.
Russo21
05-13-2016, 01:40 AM
If Tim feels ok and thinks he can play then he should. I'd like to see him come back as a player/coach and take a role off the bench. In games he sits like against young small fast teams he can be on the bench coaching. Use him for matchups against bigger slower teams maybe. I don't want to see him retire as a player yet and that would be a way to not rely on him as your second big but rather a coach and bench guy in certain matchups. But to do that we need a big to play alongside LMA. Who's that gonna be? West, Diaw, Boban, Duncan aren't good enough to be your second best big man.
Yeah I want Duncan to go out a champion. But I think he's close enough to the 2014 championship to still go out on top. He was still effective in the regular season but it's clear he's grossly mismatched against the teams that matter: OKC and the warriors (he definitely won't be able to play against small ball lineups).
What I don't want to see is him ending in the same HOF class as kobe.
Duncan should play a role similar to garnett's this year. Play 10-15 minutes per game. Maybe start but eventually get moved to the bench.

I was listening to a Springsteen song and it defines Duncan so much it's scary:
You've seen me, I always leave with less than I had before
Then you've seen me, bet I can make you smile when the blood, it hits the floor
Tell me, friend, can you ask for anything more?
Tell me can you ask for anything more?
These things that have comforted me, I drive away
This place that is my home I cannot stay
My only faith's in the broken bones and bruises I display
Have you ever seen a one-legged man trying to dance his way free?
If you've ever seen a one-legged man then you've seen me
Man I hope he comes back one more season, but I'd understand if he decides to walk off. There's only so much his body can take and he has give it all for 19 years. A true legend.

He clearly didn't have another year left in him after the clippers series, in his head he wanted it to be his final season, but losing in first round and so underachiever season thanks to pop and Kawhi letting him down he felt he want other ending and it make him do that mistake to comeback that only made more damage to his legasy...

I can't see him coming back unless he has some miraculous rehab in the offseason. He didn't look happy in any interview I saw him in over the last half of the season and the playoffs. For a guy who could dominate any other big in the game it has to be frustrating to only be able to go half speed.

Player Coach? That'd be a sweet title for Tim in his final season. Hasn't been done for decades but it can be done.
Wiki "Today, the collective bargaining agreement (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Collective_bargaining_agreement) between the NBA and the players' union prohibits the use of player-coaches, in order to avoid circumventing the league's salary cap (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salary_cap), as coaches' salaries are not counted under the cap. Therefore, if a player is to serve as a coach, he would have to receive commission from his contract as a player. The player, then, is not technically an official coach of his team but instead simply a coach in name."
Timmy Player Coach. Sounds like a fitting title to TD's last season. Get it done. Exactly the opposite of Kobe's final year where he hindered the young Lakers. Tim can help everyone on the team from the bench, especially the newbies and play when he is up to it or in favourable matchups for him. Player Coach. Get it done. Imagine Timmy pioneering the player/coach position. It could come back big with vets who are smart and nearly retired but wanna keep playing and who are maybe not ready for a full on assistant job just yet.

I think if he comes back it will be in this capacity. It all depends how his body/knees feel with time to recover come training camp.
That injury on his knee this season was the gut punch that slowed him down terribly. Just depends if it is 100% after a couple months of rehab and rest.

Unpopular opinion: but i think part of Timmy falloff has been extreme low usage..he actually looked good in games of +30 minutes..these early hooks on him by Pop have hurt his rhythm on both ends ..i think he could have given us more on D and there is a reason he had the best +/- for the series..

People forget Timmy posted the best defensive rating in the league. He'd be fine starting next year after rehabbing his knee. If the Spurs manage to land a big like Gasol in the offseason, then bring him off the bench. Either way I'm 100% for him coming back.
The spurs kind of NEED Tim to come back next year if you think about it. That or they role with LMA and Leonad as the 4 and 5. Boban is simply not the answer.

Leave Timmy alone and let him retire. He has had a hall of fame career as a Spur and brought 5 titles to The City of San Antonio plus numerous personal accolades. He is the best power forward of all time.
Timmy simply can not go through another season of 82 plus games. He knows this and so does Pop. Timmy most likely would have retired last year but he made a promise to LA that he would play another season.
Majority of the posters during this playoff series game thread acknowledges the wheels have fallen off. His defensive play will be missed.
Thank you Tim Duncan for everything you did for this great city of San Antonio. You are truly the best of all time.

Since when is 8 PPG, almost 8 RPG, almost 3 APG, 1 BPG and stellar team defense at 39 years old an "embassment," clown? Go fuck yourself and run into traffic, shit head.
I selfishly want Timmy to return too, but if it means jeopardizing the health of his one functional knee then I understand him leaving the game. He's given the NBA, the Spurs and his fans all across the globe more than enough.
Wouldn't mind having Tim back. He can still contribute, but shouldn't be relied on to anchor the defense at his age.
Manu, it's been great, but it's time to hang me up.

It will be tough not having TD but he's done. Manu is done. Parker has a couple of years but if they traded him I wouldn't care. Get rid of Mills, Bonner will be gone, surely, Diaw is close to done and probably gone, get rid of West, Martin, Miller and fill that open big 3 spot with the money to pay high dollar.
