Dude can't play anymore.
I wouldn't say he's done. It's just that he got older and doesn't have the same stamina, strength or speed as he once did.

And yet he looks like a spring chicken next to Duncan and Manus cadavers :lol

But can he swallow his pride and come off the bench if the Spurs sign a starting PG replacement?
Losing a step was always gonna be Tony's downfall since he never worked on a reliable jumper. Not that off some nights on some nights shit. I'm mean consistent.

June 29th is going to be a sad day around here when Manu opts in.

Point guards who rely on speed age horribly, and Parker is no exception. If Tim and Manu retire the Spurs have to get his dead weight contract off the books before he falls off even more.

Tony Parker is ...
Tim Duncan's #1 teammate of all time. Yeah!

I donīt get why people like to contrast Tony sucking to Manuīs or Timīs.
Itīs just incomparable. Those two can return for me, it doesnīt change a thing. They are like 80 years old combined and have gave it all for the team, playing the last 4 years on below market value, a lot below. And the cap hit for both combined is 7.5 millions at most, for one year.
On the other hand you have Tony, who has been sucking when he should be still playing quite good (remember Manu and Tim at 33?), has been playing like shit for 2 and half years now, and has not shown commitment with the organization at all, while Manu at his age payed only in the Olympics, Tony has competed for France year after year after year on shitty european tournaments (not shitty for their value, but because those are below the Olympics Value) without taking one of thee last years off considering how bad he has done here and that he has finished a couple of years with injuries.
And to complete my point, Parker is due 30 millions still, while Duncan and Ginobili are DUE 7.5 combined.
So as i said, itīs two completely different scenarios of sucking. I can live with Manu and Tim sucking at these age, and if they want to play one more year for 7 millions, so be it. They have taken one for the team for many years and the team should take one for them, but Parker is a whole different thing, he is going to play 2 international tournaments this years (Qualification and Olympics) and has been done for a while. Unacceptable.

Nice post.
Tony is somewhere between a starter and a back up, but he's clearly an NBA player. He's still one of the fastest players, though he's lost the blinding fast speed he had in his prime. He'll bust out a prime game every so often. But if he was a bench guy going against other second units, he'd be really good.
And with Manu possibly returning, he's the only guy on the roster that can dribble the ball against pressure and initiate an offense, over dribbling jokes aside.

circa early january:
parker's greatest talent was his speed. he was a scorer, not a shooter or one with court vision. anecdotal, but i feel like this season he's missed some easy lay ups. his step has been lost imo.
i appreciate what he's done for the franchise, there was a time when we needed him. we don't anymore.
tp isn't done though. he would have something like a "resurgent year" if moved east.
i hope his time with the spurs is done though. we don't need him at $14 million.

Pretty sure he averaged more assists per game in his last year than he ever did before. But yes as a scorer he is far from what he was before 30. But if we get some more dependable scoring at SG he doesn't have to shoot anymore. Just layups
edit: he actually averaged 5.3 or something this season but when he was a distributor he got way more assists and was way more valuable.
Spurs don't have any ball handling guards other than Parker and Manu. Who do you replace those guys with? You want every team to Beno us circa 2005?

Losing a step was always gonna be Tony's downfall since he never worked on a reliable jumper. Not that off some nights on some nights shit. I'm mean consistent. His medium range jumper was as money as money could be at one time. Age affects the jump shot too because of the legs. This also explains Manus and Tims jump shot.
this thread is literally a salt mountain. OP doing his greatest work in 2016. classics of the genre.

He can't penetrate anymore (on the court), but he can shoot ~40%ish on his 20 foot jumpers. He's basically fat Ray Felton, who has been posting those numbers and getting paid for 6 years.

:cry I'm sorry
Spurs.com has none of the big 3 on their front page. It's KL, LMA and Danny Green. The Spurs are trying to get away from the big 3 error. Expect to see Tony in a reduced role.

Tony still has something left in the tank....Not what he use to be but he could be a solid back up...Spurs definitely need another PG though.....

Nah, Manu threw spurs under the bus for Argentina. He could never stay healthy after going 110% for country. Tony is done regardless if he plays in other tournaments.

Thats not a fact, just your opinion. I am stating facts regarding Tim, Tony and Manu.
Still not the same situation for me and the same can be said for Tony.
Manu still won 2 titles with the Spurs after going all out for argentina in 2004, dont know what you mean stay healthy. Had only one season ending injury in his whole career and a broken arm thatīs more pop than his fault.

I had to bump this. Hopefully it turns into a positive jinx. If positive jinxes dont work, he really needs to look at retiring.

He's averaging 3 points and 2 turnovers with 15mpg. Pop will still give him a nice 3 year deal for everything he's done in the past.
