Not a good comparison IMO, do you see Durant walking and winning 3 alpha rings? Me neither.

Has there ever been a team closer to.winning a title that ended up not winning? Like ever winning a title.

It is a good comparison. Its not meant to be literal..position to position, role to role. Its meant to me that they had it all but still didn't reach the summit alone.

The Utah Jazz.

That's because they had 90s Durant.

only the Malone-Stockton Jazz have underachieved more with an elite 1-2 punch for an extended period of time. i think they get another shot at it in 2017; if they fail, that team will be broken up..

They have only had 3 legit postseason runs as contenders ('12/'14/'16), that would put them in the Kemp/GP, Nash/Amare, Shaq/Penny & Barkley/KJ echelon rather than Stockton/Malone.

We already saw KD's career as the alpha: 2013 postseason + 2014 regular season aka Admiral status

I don't see it one way or another. The Thunder are just like any number of teams from any era that couldn't get over the hump, like the 90's Jazz, 90's Knicks and so on. They're also a victim, like those teams, of some stout teams that were a notch above them.

If anything, the 90s Knicks OVERACHIEVED considering there talent level. They went to TWO finals when the 90s Heat couldn't even get to the ECF w/ better talent.:lol

-Grizz w/ PRIME Z-Bo: 90s Knicks
-CP3/Blake Cripples: Zo/Hardaway Heat
-KD/WB: Shaq/Penny Magic

Actually, the Heat went through the Knicks and came back from 3-1 down to reach the conference finals in 1997. The Knicks probably win a title if not for Jordan and Hakeem.

:lmao

You mean after Stern suspended the Knicks starting lineup for the final 2 games:

During the brawl, Patrick Ewing (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Ewing), Allan Houston (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_Houston), Larry Johnson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Larry_Johnson_%28basketball,_born_1969%29) and John Starks (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Starks_%28basketball%29) left the bench; the league punished them for this by handing out 1-game suspensions spread out over the series' final 2 games. Ewing, Houston and Ward were suspended for Game 6; Johnson and Starks were suspended for Game 7.

You said the Heat couldn't even make a conference final. Obviously, they did even if took Jeff Van Gundy nearly getting stepped on like a roach to get it done.

My point still stands, they NEVER beat the Knicks when half their starting lineup wasn't suspended for two games.:lol
