Respiratory issues at his age are nothing to fuck with...hope the real TBE makes it through unless his life quality warrants otherwise

They did say on the news last night that his stay on the hospital was supposed to be brief so I guess this makes sense.

Wow, still young. I can't believe he's just 74. I honestly thought he'd be near 90 by now lol. My grandpa had the same issue and fought back and he's 82 right now but given Ali's current condition, I won't be surprised if his body just gives up.

The first half of his life was great despite having to fight the racial issues of the 60's. He got to be an iconic figure when he was young and enjoy all the spoils of his success and fame. The last 30 years of his life showed great deterioration due to his chronic illness worsening. Definitely on the top 100 most famous people of the 20th century.

He dod actually. For a lot of Black people in his time, he was the voice of cobfidence. I was reading a back about racism in his time, and even thought it wasnt that bad in his era compared to the past..there was still a sense of inferiority as black minority.

Who exactly are your heroes?

Mostly my Father for paying for my college education. My Mother also for raising me properly and teaching me values. Definitely not a boxer. While I enjoyed watching highlightes of Ali's fights, I would never turn to him as a hero because he could slip a jab well and punch people harder than other people could.

Your parents aren't heroes to most people on earth except you, but doesn't make what you said any less valid. You're being disingenuous if him slipping jabs is why you think he's universally celebrated. Either way, I don't really see the relevance of your comment in a thread about him dying.

Muhammed was a legitimate black voice in an era of irratinal, simple-minded fucks. He was in front of the camera and represented. This was before the illegitimate voice of the culture today and lower tier quality blacks. Its not everyone else fault you hated black history or forced t having to study black culture.

If you believe that Ali didn't touch lives or represent something greater than "slipping punches" then you truly are simple minded. Ali, Abdul-Jabbar, Jim Brown, Bill Russell and a few other Black athletes were honestly the voice of "the people" beyond athletics. They used their platform to help lead the community through the Civil Rights movement.

He had his many, many flaws (like all of us do), but that doesn't change who he was and what he represented.

Rest in Peace - Muhammad Ali ( fka Cassius Clay) 1942 - 2016

Read the Jerry Izenberg's piece on what Ali meant to the generation. From his humanitarian and philanthropist ways like giving money to save a convalescent home in the Bronx.

Any sane individual would have tried dodging the draft. Thousands of innocent drafted soldiers forces to weild a gun to kill innocent people for what?

I only Wish Ali was even more influential. Maybe Vietnam wouldnt be in its current state of absoulte poorness...such an unccesary war.

At least Ali was man enough to stand tall and take his right to not go to the supreme court. He could have easily found some technicality/cop out the way rich conservative whites did but he a level of dignity they didn't have.
