With the NBA Draft Combine (http://stats.nba.com/draftcombine/#!/) in Chicago in the books, Joel Bolomboy (http://www.standard.net/Weber-State/2016/02/26/Down-but-not-out-Weber-State-s-Joel-Bolomboy)helped his draft stock rise and turned heads with impressive numbers and a flashy dunk in limited play during one of the two games.The forward had the best marks in lane agility time (10.26 seconds) and bench press (19 repetitions), recorded the second best standing vertical leap at 37.5 inches and was fifth overall in the shuttle run (2.86 seconds), three-quarter court sprint (3.17 seconds) and max vertical leap (40.5 inches).

DraftExpress (http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Joel-Bolomboy-66144/)’ had the former Wildcat being drafted by the Sacramento Kings at the 59th spot in their mock draft after the combine, but now have him going as the very last pick in the draft to the Utah Jazz. This is the first time that Bolomboy has not been listed as an undrafted free agent on DraftExpress. NBADraft.net (http://www.nbadraft.net/2016mock_draft), on the other hand, has Bolomboy projected to be drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers with the 32nd pick, just outside the first round.

According to Bleacher Report’s (http://bleacherreport.com/nba) lead NBA Draft writer Jonathan Wasserman (http://bleacherreport.com/users/1464022-jonathan-wasserman), that range, however broad, seems about right given what he saw at the combine. “I think he’ll be all over the place in terms of teams’ boards. He’ll be a high second round to some and low second round to others,” Wasserman said in a phone interview with the Standard-Examiner. “I wouldn’t be shocked if a few teams even had him in the late first round because of the sure-thing factor that comes with his athleticism and work ethic. He’s a high-character guy. He could be all over the place, but realistically anywhere in the 30 to 60 range.”

After the first round and even the lottery picks, projecting draft prospects can be a crap shoot, but Wasserman said that could be even more so for Bolomboy as he can fit in with just about any team because of his “ability to make plays without needing any ran to him.”

Wasserman sees Bolomboy as a high-energy bench player in the NBA that can give a team rebounds and can run the floor. The reigning Big Sky Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year showed off his range with his jump shot, an attribute that Wasserman says is the key to a successful career.

“For his NBA potential, being able to hit those jump shots could take him a long way in the pros,” Wasserman said. “Everyone he’s playing with was the best player on their team. He wasn’t featured, but he did all of the energy-player type of things.”

According to Wasserman, what limits Bolomboy from his stock rising any further is his lack of feel for the game, committing too many turnovers and so sure-fire offense tools.

“He’s not a go-to guy. He hit 20 threes this year, which is nice, but is he going to be a three-point shooter? It’s tough to say. Is he going to be a post scorer? I wouldn’t bet on it. Best case scenario, he’s going to be an energy guy who comes in, pounds the glass and runs the floor and does the little things, which is nice to have, but you want to go bigger in these drafts. I think he’s got a low floor and a high ceiling. I don’t think he’s ever going to be a starter.”
