One theory is that anything over 30 minutes a day starts to burn muscle rather then burn fat.

to burn fat keep the intensity down, light sweat, as long as you can go while keeping good form
you don't want to ratchet up the intensity bc then your body will kick into preservation mode and actually want to hold onto fat
