Had he lived up to expectations; would've been nice. Spurs still could've rang 08-12. That's the frustrating part.

Don't get me started on Bonner when hew as overused those few years and starting though, the wrong match up and his shot not falling made him useless out there.

Pop desperately pinned a lot of hopes on him after falling out with Bowen. It was also a time when Pop thought his system could fix a lot of ills by simply plugging in square pegs into round holes (such as RMJ at PG).

Fan since 95 and really not old enough to evaluate talent until 2000 so I may not have quite the database but I love these things:

1. Keith Bogans
2. Tony Massenberg
3. Mengke Bateer

I didn't base my list off of lack of bang for buck, just simply least talented or least impact. Well, ok, Bogans was touted as being the successor to Bruce so he had some expectations come along with him to boost him as my number one. Hate him or not, at least Dick produced something while on the court

Why do people hate bogans? He was a backup forced to play big minutes. Y'all make it sound like he's patty mills without the shot.

Bogans,, Jefferson, ava Bonner, etc are examples of average players being pressed into high level playoffs basketball. All three were nba quality role players and have had very very long nba careers. You don't stick in the league like those three unless you have nba talent.

Also, how the fuck you gonna mention tj Ford when he was coming off huge injuries? That dude was a major baller who couldn't stay healthy.

I agree with your points on TJ but as far as Bogans? I hated him because of the high expectations that the front office, reporters, and many of this message board had for him when as you said, he's a very average player. He was supposedly known for his perimeter defense and well, he was a breezeway

Malik Rose was actually huge on that 2003 title run, he had some monster games those playoffs and his Dunk on Motumbo sparked them in game 3 of the finals. HE ATE Dallas up that year too. After that I agree though fully, he signed that contract and tried to be a jump shooter and just basically went downhill. He netted us Nazr in 2005 though for the title run so another positive from him :lol

In terms of cost-benefit, Dick Jefferson is the worst signing ever . He stole 32m from the franchise playing 3 years ish and SA had to waste a 1st round pick do dump him and bring back Cancer Jackson.

Paul Pressey

Great mixed list on our top cancer, most memorably failed draft pick, and perhaps worst trade. Many of us that were around during Rodman think he threw the playoffs against the Rockets. Hughes most exciting play was running his Benz up the wall at 281 & Hildebrand. Pressey yet another older player acquired with blown knees, but we also gave up a young promising Brickowski for him.

The ghost of Larry Brown came back to haunt us. Pop listened to his butt buddy Brown about what a great talent Butler was, so Pop signed him. After getting here we found he was dumb, couldn't play nor could speak English like a mother fucker. Holt had a firm rule we would not go over the cap and pay the luxury tax, forcing us to bribe Houston into taking Butler if we through in Scola.

From wiki:

As a Knick, Smith is infamous for being blocked 4 straight times directly under the basket, despite his huge height advantage, as he attempted to give New York the lead in Game 5 of the 1993 Eastern Conference Finals against the Chicago Bulls. After taking a 2–0 series lead, the Knicks lost Games 3 & 4 in Chicago Stadium. With a chance to take a 3–2 series lead at Madison Square Garden, Smith's attempts were hampered by Michael Jordan, Horace Grant and Scottie Pippen in the final seconds, becoming one of the most notorious and disappointing moments in Knicks history. The Knicks then lost Game 6 and the series in Chicago to complete an epic collapse, while the Bulls moved on to defeat the Phoenix Suns in the NBA Finals and win their third consecutive championship. However, he was with the Knicks the following year when they defeated the Bulls (sans Michael Jordan) in the second round, but lost in the NBA Finals to the Houston Rockets

In all my years of Spurs fandom, I had never been so disgusted with a team's playoff performance as I was in 1990 when they got whooped by Golden State. It was embarrassing. The whole city had such high expectations and the let down was the beginning of things to come. Thankfully, Tim Duncan ended all that and put this franchise on the map, securing its place in the NBA history books.

This city is fully indebted to the GOAT and imo, Tim has the right to do whatever he wants when it comes to his future. Playing, coaching, GMing, whatever he wants, the franchise should grant.

THE Alfredrick

Loyola career

A 6'5" (1.96 m) shooting guard from Loyola University Chicago, Hughes averaged 17.0 points per game as a freshman, 25.7 as a sophomore, 27.6 as a junior, and 26.3 as a senior at Loyola.[1] Hughes is Loyola's all-time leading scorer with 2,914 points, ranking ninth on the NCAA career scoring list. He holds the school-record for most points scored in a game with 47 against Detroit on Feb. 5, 1985. Hughes was an All-American in 1985 and was a three-time Midwestern Collegiate Conference Player of the Year. Hughes' #21 is retired at Loyola.[2]
NBA career

Hughes played in only one NBA season. He played for the Spurs during the 1985-86 NBA season, appearing in 68 games and averaging 5.2 ppg.

Career:

1985–1986 San Antonio Spurs
1986–1987 Alno Fabriano (Italy)
1987–1990 Chicago / Illinois Express (WBL)
1990–1991 Dayton Wings (WBL)
1991–1992 Louisville Shooters (GBA)
1992–1993 Fort Wayne Fury (CBA)
1993 Quad City Thunder (CBA)
1993 Montreal Dragons (Canada)
1993–1994 Hartford Hellcats (CBA)
1994 Rochester Renegade (CBA)
1994 Grand Rapids Hoops (CBA)

I dont like to talk negatively about folk, but dayum!!!! Look at this career.

I remember Alfredricks rookie season in the NBA and he came out to the courts in the offseason to play some pickup games. This HS kid from John Jay did a windmill slam dunk on Alfredrick....... I was like :depressed

I love how the only shot they could get for the back of the card was one of total confusion!

That 1990 Team was a Dynasty in the making to bad we had some sorrid bad luck

Wingate gets accused of rape
Wille fractures was never the same player he was
Brick get traded for that POS Pressey
Reggie Willams gets wavied
Rod Strickland getting into bar fights

Sydney Green and David Greenwood were POS has beens....

This is why RUN TMC whipped our ass

Anyone have that we want it NOW t-shirt ......That was a fucking Joke!!!!!

What I recall is Don Nelson humiliating, intimidating, emasculating, embarrassing Larry Brown BY OUT COACHING him in that series.

He absolutely out-coached him. Blurrp, I'm about to throw up. The likes of Vincent Askew, Tom Tolbert, Sarunas Marciulionis, Mario Elie and Tyrone Hill all beating up on our soft ass front court. Then they'd step back and make 3 pointers on us too. Larry Brown had nothing.

Keepin' it real

How about that giant Indian who was on the bench in street clothes during Kerr's memorable game 6 at Mavs 2003? This guy:

Dude, that's Mengke Bateer, and he's from China. Several people have mentioned him. He was taller than his translator, but the translator had a better jump shot.

In no particular order.

To be fair Nick was on his last legs and older after a successful career but those other two... Those two man. Nick never should have been overplayed though at that age and with how he performed, he was beyond done in 2006.
