Granted, Draymond got a BS suspension and Bogut was hurt on a possibly dirty play but c'est la vie. They had Game 7 on their home floor and knew how to win in tight spots.

When Lebron went up for that Dunk, it felt the same as when Plaxico caught the TD, the devil was slayed, I wish Lebron had made that Dunk though, probably would have been replayed as the highlight that they would show for the game.

Totally. I had felt it was a huge momentum changer. I don't think I've ever seen anybody want a dunk more in their life than LeBron in that moment. His legacy was on the line if he lost this game. His critics claiming that he was too passive, and he just answered it by slamming it down with massive force. To me it looked like he might have broken his wrist, or at least strained it with that force he slammed it down with. That meant a lot to the team and getting that extra point to make it a two possession deficit completely changed the dynamics of the game.

Remarkable...

No, 2004 Yankess still the worst choke of all time. Worse than the 2007 Patriots though.

We can't ignore that Bogut undoubtably was the main reason for the comback. It wouldve been like if the 2014 Spurs lost Splitter, a very niche player, but very crucial to team success.

No excuses for Curry, though. Terrible showing by him these playoffs.

Finally these arrogant, smug, entitled, elitist attitude pricks luck runs out and them and all of their closet fans (including most of the media), who acted the same way the past 2 years, get humbled.

They unexpectedly turn relevant for 2 years, win 1 gift wrapped championship and have the audacity to strut around like they're a dynasty.

Hopefully this also quells all of the racial undertones. The supposed progressive, more intelligent than everyone golden boys, lost to the so called antiquated, low IQ (code for "black") iso specialists.

It was also nice to see an unexpected ending. This was following the same script of the typical game 7 of the NBA until the final 2 minutes.

Warriors are fraud of a championship team. They are a much much better team than the 2011 Spurs. 2 good teams they played in 8 series. 2!!!. Both went to 7.

Btw, this is the second finals that Curry wasn't even the best player on his team. This year he wasn't even the 5th best player on the Court. Lebron, Irving, Klay, Draymond or played better. This guy a regular season player.

You can't definitively prove that Golden State wins Game 5 if Raymond plays. Raymond had the best game of his career tonight and it still wasn't enough.

Curry was probably less than 100%, but even a <100% Curry minus Bogut and a gimpy Iggy should still be better than a team that is playing Dick fuckin' Jefferson 30 minutes per game. No excuses. An all-time great choke.

Yeah it's pretty bad that I don't think they will bounce back from it. They will still be a good regular season team but I don't think they are mentally strong enough to deal with the media fall out from this. I remember after the spurs lost to Miami they had to hear about it everyday for the whole entire '14 season. I remember Manu saying after the Spurs won in '14 that it felt like a knife had been removed from his body and that the pain was finally gone. The Warriors will have this pain forever unless they go on to win another title.

Yeah, I would say the '04 Yankees were a bigger choke. The Red Sox beat Rivera in back-to-back save situations, which was pretty much an impossibility at the time. And then they win 2 straight at Yankee Stadium to close out the series.

This was definitely the biggest NBA choke of all-time, though.

Not at all, LeBron is among the greatest players ever. The Sonics losing to the Nuggets as a 1-seed after being up 2-0 was worse. The Suns chokes to the Rockets in back-to-back years was worse. And the list goes on.

It's definitely among the most notable chokes ever if not the most notable choke ever in NBA history.

I love how the physical play is what made the difference. For all those that say the league is too soft today, well the refs let them play. Been hearing for years the refs won't let you be physical on the perimeter.. Well the Cavs did it with Curry almost all series long and the whistle was swallowed..

The Warriors are obviously unique in what they do, but I hate watching them play. Watching guys like Curry and Thompson jacking up horrible 3 point shots, from almost half court early in the shot clock. I'm sorry that is just bad basketball.

What you might have forgotten: This was all about bad karma. After Game 7, the Boston Globe’s Leigh Montville reported that, in the Lakers' locker room, "there were five cases of unopened champagne. There were eight unopened bags of balloons at the top of the Forum ceiling, and an unsliced victory cake in the Lakers press room." As legend has it, the Celtics took notice of the balloons in the Forum rafters, waiting to be dropped in celebration. Lakers star Jerry West was none too happy about the presumptuous balloons, and his fear that it the premature celebration might tick off the Celtics was confirmed when Russell said to him during pregame warmups, "Those f-— balloons are staying up there."

Theres no way Warriors choke was worse than Spurs' in 13.

What was the statistic? When a team is up by 5 with 28 to go they win like 99% (or something like that).

In what other series did the NBA bring out the trophy and start roping off the court just to have to walk at that crap back?

Biggest choke. Sorry.

Am I really gonna have to obliterate you again?

In the NBA playoffs, there's only been 2 instances of teams blowing a 3-1 lead with homecourt advantage prior to the Warriors choke (The Suns are one, naturally :lol).

In NBA history, there's been 150 of these situations (team leading 3-1 with homecourt).

150/2=98.7 percent.

Show me a source that a team being up 2 possessions with ~30 seconds left wins 99% of the time?

Only the most DIE HARD Suns fans have any idea what Im talking about.

In game 5 (Suns up 3-1), Wesley Person missed a wide open jump shot at the end of regulation. Suns lost in overtime, game 6 and game 7. Rockets win championship.

I mean he was WIDE OPEN.

Which would you RATHER have:

2) 5 point lead and a man on the line to extend to seven with 28 seconds to go. Win and you get the championship.

think you are confusing heart-breaking with historic/biggest. we had 3 chances to win the ring with 2 on our home floor, 13 spurs had 2 with both away. losing like the 13' spurs would have been more heartbreaking in the moment bc of how it happened, our death was long and drawn out (and completely perplexing). can't believe i'm fighting against my own team here, but the logic on this is too obvious to not point out.

You mean both situations are great positions to be in?

So the question (again) is which situation would you RATHER be in:

1) Up 3-1

2) Up by five (and guy on the line for two free throws) with 28 seconds to go.

Obviously, you'd rather take number two.

But I would take 6 over being a historically great 73-9 team with a 3-1 and then blowing the series, giving Cleveland their first title in 52 years. Previously it was Spurs in game 6 of the 2013 NBA finals, but this sure tops it and it will stay that way for quite awhile. Not at all..but it certainly makes it less shocking that they lost considering they didnt have him for game 5. You lose game 6 and it becomes do-or-die for both teams and they always say "anything can happen in a game seven".

Thus the Ginobili/Rebound/Kawhi/Rebound debacle was worse. The Spurs had to screw up on five straight offensive/defensive possessions with the championship on the line.

Looking back at both series, its clearer to me that the Spurs squandered the biggest opportunity.

Draymond losing his cool and getting suspended, fully knowing he was on thin ice with NBA officials after the OKC series, is a perfect example of the kind of mental meltdown that defines "choke."

And what's worse, it was an action totally unrelated to the game. Draymond didn't get outhustled for a rebound, miss a FT, etc. It was something he was perfectly capable of controlling.

Yep. I crunched the numbers. The odds of the Warriors going scoreless for the last 4 and half minutes per the amount of shots they took and who took them was 1500 to 1 :lol

The chain of events during the last 28.2 seconds in game 6 (missed FTs, two straight offensive rebounds, made 3s) had odds of 400 to 1.

Sorry monospulp. It is what it is.

I would take a 3-1 lead with home court advantage anyday. You're kidding right? Thirty seconds compared to 3 games against an inferior team? The probability in a 3 game cushion is much more likely to work out than having a 2 shot lead.

That being said, the spurs were also the inferior team that year and should have never been in a position to win. The heat had been playing horrible to that point. They should have had that's series locked up before 6. Game 7 was much closer to reality of the teams qualities.

Umm...no.

Choking involves players buckling/caving to the pressure. The anxiety causes them not to be able to perform as they normally would.

Green wasnt under pressure when he screwed up. The game was over. It wasnt the pressure of the situation, it was just his usually temper.

Ginobili and Leonard both choked under pressure. Especially Leonard. You could see it on his face that it was too much for him.

The Cavs only scored four points in the last four minutes themselves. No one besides Kyrie Irving hit a shot in the last four minutes.

Spurs have to have just one good offensive or defensive possession and they blew it 5 times in a row.

I don't even know if what happened to San Antonio in Game 6 even qualifies as a "choke." A five-point lead really isn't all that big, even with under 30 seconds to play. A couple of three-pointers sandwiched around a free throw- that's all it is. Not much. And it isn't as if the Spurs did anything egregious in that stretch. They missed a couple of free throws but there were no awful turnovers, no Nick Anderson-type meltdowns at the line- they failed to grab a couple of rebounds and Miami hit a couple of big shots. Earlier this season the Cavaliers had a four-point lead on the Celtics with ten seconds left and wound up losing when they gave up an and-one, failed to secure the rebound off the missed free throw and Avery Bradley hit a three-pointer at the buzzer. Things like that happen sometimes in basketball.

What doesn't happen is a 73-win team blowing a 3-1 lead while losing its last two games at home. That's almost impossible to comprehend. I'd like to believe the Cavaliers won it more than the Warriors lost it, but when you lose a series like that, under those circumstances, that's a choke for the ages.

Youre forgetting both Ginobili and Kawhi missed free throws.

And they gave up offensive rebounds two possessions in a row. I didnt even realize how bad Kawhi choked till reading this from grantland:

The ball found Kawhi Leonard first. He’d been brilliant all series, playing a stretch 4 and bothering LeBron despite battling ongoing discomfort in his left knee. The team’s doctors declared that Leonard’s knee needed rest, but San Antonio needed Leonard’s athleticism too much. He played through pain for the entire playoffs. Later that summer, Erik Spoelstra told me that Miami charted Leonard’s rebounds during those seven games — somehow, he caught every rebound that touched his fingers except for two. This was one of the two. Famous for his gargantuan hands, Leonard couldn’t swing those oversize mitts up fast enough.

As Leonard fumbled for a second chance, Dwyane Wade soared in and tipped the ball away, looking like a cornerback breaking up a touchdown catch. The basketball popped up perfectly, as if an invisible referee threw everyone a jump ball. Leonard, Manu Ginobili and Boris Diaw pursued, all arriving from different directions, all of them practically colliding in air.

I'd like to believe the Cavaliers won it more than the Warriors lost it, but when you lose a series like that, under those circumstances, that's a choke for the ages.

not to mention 2014 title and the way it was accomplished took the sting forever from 6.

It was a choke considering the situation. Game 6 of the NBA Finals...30 seconds away from the LOBT....that's got all the makings for a choke. Sure, 5 point leads evaporate in the NBA in waaaay less time than 30 seconds...it's just rarely happens in a NBA Finals game.

I do agree with the 2nd paragraph though. It's almost impossible to comprehend that Warriors choke.

During that now-fateful timeout with San Antonio up five, Jalen Rose and I watched NBA officials wheel the Larry O’Brien Trophy into the runway to our right. It couldn’t have been farther than 15 feet from us. We watched security guards assume positions around the court, and we watched Heat employees hastily sticking up yellow rope around the courtside seats. Like they were cordoning off a homicide scene. Even after LeBron’s second-gasp 3, I still thought we were going home. Some Heat fans had already trickled out. We watched them leave in disbelief. How could the Basketball Gods reward … that?

After Miller fouled Leonard with 19.4 seconds left, he strolled impassively to the free throw line, with Miami’s rejuvenated crowd suffocating him with boos and screams. I remember thinking, Forget about making these free throws — I wonder if this kid is hitting the rim.

Later:

I declared that no NBA team had ever come closer to winning a title without actually winning a title, which I hoped was true. (It was.)

Maybe Bill Simmons will come out and say the Warriors were closer to a title than the Spurs were (but I doubt it).

I think Ive proven my point.
