Hmm I am surprised to see Simmons in SL again. When did his contract become guaranteed again? He needs to work on that ballhandling though SL with no defense is not the best place to see if he's improved on that. He'll be running and dunking all SL and that still doesn't say if he's improved on his weak areas.

I think you are right as well. They will want to see him handle the ball efficiently. I also think they want to see positive shooting. Can he consistently hit open shots. If he shows these I think he's could get pulled from at least the second summer league

Guard Bryn Forbes (http://247sports.com/Player/Bryn-Forbes-77511) completed the group when he reached a deal with the San Antonio Spurs, he confirmed on Friday afternoon. Earlier Friday, center Matt Costello signed with the Atlanta Hawks.

Forbes told Spartan Tailgate the deal is a verbal agreement and he will play in summer league with the Spurs.

In Vegas, he will play against former MSU teammate Matt Costello, who earlier Friday agreed to play for the Atlanta Hawks in the summer league. Both players earned all-tournament honors at the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament predraft workouts in April.

Forbes averaged 14.4 points and 2.1 rebounds as a senior, ranking second in Division I basketball by making 48.1% of his three-point attempts. He led the three-game Portsmouth tournament with 20.3 points per game to go with 2.0 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.3 steals. He made 50% of his shots (21-for-42) and a tournament-best 13 threes on 30 attempts.

Yeah. Agreed. He's uhh... kind of fine with the ball in his hands while he's driving, but he needs to learn how to play off the ball and then become more of a play-maker once the ball is back in his hands again.
Hopefully his mentality, going in as a "senior" member of the club will be to embrace and coach on the court, which may also help his development as a player.

All this shit is pie in the sky conjecture, but it just may be the plan.
Doubt it happens though.

I actually do like him a lot, and I think he's going to improve at a rate that's hard for people to grasp just sitting around typing about it. He pretty much has everyone you need in a center. He's just raw.

Agreed. He actually improved in my estimation this past season bc he was so much worse in the dleague. POP also had him bring up the ball and handle the rock later in the season and I never thought it was bc he was turning him into a PG. It was on purpose to get him used to ball pressure.

Anyways, I liked that comment by raybies in another thread. I would prefer to see him work on his weak areas like taking (not passing up) his open 3s, exhibit sound judgement within the offense, work on his defense, try to avoid fouling. Him dominating the ball isn't going to tell us he's going to do that in the big team, they may do it to check his ballhandling, but he could always score. It was the other things that sent him to the bench, so that's what I would rather see him work on.

Have to give Becky a chance to defend her title. I will say that that if she does win, she'll get legitimate coaching offers next off-season. Maybe not head (...) positions, but top assistant positions are not out of the question. That said, I'm really glad she'll be there. She seemed to reign in Simmons quite well in addition to getting Anderson to play closer to his potential. I hoping she does a bit of both with Murray and LJC.

Me too. I don't know if Bertans will make it, no rumors yet other than his contract. Another thing is when guys contracts get signed, but I am looking foward to see them, Milutinov for me is the most intriguing since he's the one I have seen the least.

Lol, good point. For me it's hard to sour on a guy after just one year in with the big boys.
He had lots of bumps and bruises, but now's the time to see if he can expand and improve upon his game. SL will be the first place to showcase if he has.

I'm personally looking for improved court vision, with the ball in his hands and less tunnel vision.
I'd like to see more cutting, off the ball, and good awareness of where to be when the ball is also not in his hands- which can be a true oasis in the desert chaos of summer league play.

Yeah, the SL roster isn't as cool as I was hoping it would be. Hopefully, Anderson (and Simmons, though especially Anderson) is just part of Utah so he can show off whatever he's been working on. Would love to see a stroke. Really excited about Lorbek being part of the roster, though.

Who does everyone predict the SL will be? I'm thinking Forbes, Murray, Anderson, Cady and Lorbek with Simmons as the sixth man (as he was in Vegas). Though I'd love to see Forbes, Murray, Wise (by default), Anderson and Cady. Would be a strong indicator of Kyle moving to the four, which would at least show some change in his curve.

Will Hardy and J.Simms are interviewed on the site too. J.Simms seemed like an ambitious guy that is hoping to be one of the elite guys in the league. I think he's eyeing his next contract for sure.

San Antonio Local Media asked Will Hardy about Kyle playing so many positions and whether it was better early on in his development to just focus him on one position or keep him versatile.
Will said he's a good basketball player and his size allows him to guard different positions, basically if you put him out there in different positions he's a good player to figure them out.

It was a bit of a downer to hear from Will Hardy that Dejounte has been around the training facilities but that he's not training with the summer league team. The possibility that he will play in Utah seemed remote to me bc he just hasn't trained or been around that team. Maybe he signs his contract in time for the Vegas team, and hopefully we get to see LJC, Milutinov, and Bertans too, but for Utah it doesn't seem likely.
