Ton of raw talent, but plenty of question marks..

Towns looks like a legit franchise player, but the rest of the roster is just potential..

Wiggins- Still extremely young and has a ton of potential, but current trajectory and projection looks like Demar Derozan(mid-range shooter that doesn't play defense, can't pass, black hole, etc)

Lavine- Historically great athleticism and improving shooter, but one of the worst defensive players in the NBA and currently a black hole(like Wiggins)

Rubio- Obvious flaws and needs to be moved(they have been rumored to be aggressively shopping him)

We'll have an idea of the defensive potential of Wiggins and Lavine under Thibodeau, of course..

Every few years, the NBA has a young, hyped team with a ton of potential, and everybody assumes they're going to be the "team of the future"..it could disappear in an instant, though(see: Roy, Aldridge, Oden- Blazers)..

How would you build this team, going forward?

Trade Wiggins to the Spurs for Mills.

It would never happen but trading Wiggins would be by far the smartest thing. He's got huge value even though he's a midrange guy who can't shoot or do any of what you said above. They could land some ridiculous pieces if they traded Lavine & Rubio as well (He's been a pro since 14 and hasn't learn to shoot :lol). Dieng looked like he had a fair bit of potential but not sure he's improved - hopefully he can now they've got a real coach.

It's hard to tell with so many of their potential off season moves still up in the air. Will they keep Rubio? Are they still packaging Dunn? Will Pekovic suffer more setbacks etc. I think what's obvious is veteran presence, they have none at the moment, unless you count KG who doesn't play anymore meaningful minutes. My guess is they'll add another Deng (serviceable, good locker room guy and relatively cheap) and maybe go after Horford, Taj Gibson or Noah (if healthy).

Another option is to roll the dice and trade Rubio for Eric Bledsoe, if Bledsoe miraculously becomes healthy I think a core of Towns, Wiggins, Bledsoe + a good mix of vets and youth is enough to build a winning atmosphere until KAT, Wiggins and Dunn are ready to take over. Jarret Jack is another player that can give them a bit of perimeter scoring and experience, low risk too.

Wiggins and KAT have tremendous chemistry. You don't separate that, you cultivate.
Rubio can be great for them, but the luster is off and I can see the team trading him easily.

Lavine, under Thibs, should improve. Obviously they would be stupid to not give him a year under a proper defensive coach to see how he responds.

That team is very close to being a true force.

NBA is a ton of potential and raw talent. Not a lot of it has come to fruition. That's because most teams don't have good trainers. Players are basically being raised by older players, and they aren't accustomed to having a man figure in their lives so they resist. Get a good shooting coach and a head coach that actually talks to the players in the off season. Get some veterans with cool heads and poise. Someone like Shane Battier as a trainer would do a lot for a young team. They don't need the KG/Kobe emotional front, they need to develop chemistry, not gang ties with each other but real on and off the court chemistry and that comes from being in a situation they know is good. Many of the are probably looking for an exit. KAT is a rare gem, high IQ and talent. He's going to be better than most realize.
