And you believe it's fair game and that decades of entitlement, bad blood and tattered relationships will cease? Do you think the owners will simply ignore the current structure of their existing deals? :lol

It's not about just the money, it's about control and the owners will always try to impose their will in some form, one way or another. Do you know who's representing the players this time? Yeah, this is not going to be a soft lock out I think :lol

mike conley never a allstar, but plays like one....still allstar game is nothing more then a popularity contest selection

still 30m for him it overpaying...

why did the grizzlies outbid themselves to re-sign him?, they couldve just match whatever starting salary package other teams could offer him..instead of shooting themselves in the foot with a albatross contract....then again small team with stacks of money need to overpay to keep/get talent

lol all star as a criteria.. he's one of the few pgs that can legitimately defend. he's a great guy to build a winning team around, you can surround him with shooters and a big center and you get an half court strong offense that can perform in the playoffs. I would bet on conley to win a title before i bet on chris paul any day of the week.

LOL at your delusion in thinking he is worth $35 million at the end of his deal. Conley a solid role player but there's no way he's worth anywhere near what he was paid. If Memphis was close to winning a championship maybe an argument can be made to be stupidly reckless like this but there is a 0% chance Conley will win an NBA title with Memphis in the next five seasons so it's essentially money flushed down the toilet.

that's a good point i'll give you that, but if they were to renounce on conley because they are not contenders, then they would have to do the same with gasol. Instead they signed parsons so they are at least a little better than they were, there is some logic there.

Exactly...they made a choice.....a lot of them were 2 or 3 sport athletes in HS......but chose football above the others. Deal with it.

Plus 90 million divided by 15 will always be larger per person than 120 million divided by 53.

Not to mention that most NFL contracts are not guaranteed $, and the real deal breaker is all the injury (physical and mental) that they have to endure after they are done playing. I bet most of those guys are looking back wishing they had went ahead and played baseball instead. Bobby Bonilla is still getting paid by the Mets and he has been gone from baseball almost 20 years. lol

ambchang
07-03-2016, 05:02 PM
This will bite the owners in a few years. They keep giving these multi year mad or near max contracts to marginal talent, and they will be these albatrosses that will destroy a teams flexibility and they can't give real contracts to these up and coming stars.

They are treating the cap is ever increasing when the reality is that this is a two year phenomenon. Teams should stand pat and wait for the storm to pass, then managing salaries based on percentages of the cap rather than hard numbers.

Holy shit, Bonilla gets $1.2 million a year from them until 2035 because the Mets wanted to invest the $5.9 million he was due in 2000 into Bernie Madoff's ponzi scheme? :rollin

Even without the injuries paying 5 years $153 million to a non-elite offensive player, non-elite (nor even above average) defensive player, a player that's not a first or second option level talent is a stupid idea to begin with. Yes that was evident in the Pau Gasol trade granted Marc turned out to be a good player but I don't think the Grizzlies ever envisioned him becoming the type of player he did become. I just remember reading back then they were better trade offers for Pau but the grizz rejected them.

Highest total contract price. Didn't Kobe get 7x20m way back probably costs more if inflation is included but yes it is 5 vs 7 years?

Also I think Lebron has the highest salary for this year. But Conley probably does not deserve half of Lebron's money.
