The article just says he's "willing to get a salary near the minimum"...so I don't think him taking the minimum is a sure thing at this point.

Are we getting Boban back? Not sure on that but he could have fit in to an exception previously. Him and Manu are still in question $ wise.

Too bad we couldn't get a longer deal with Bertans, but he has issues of his own of durability and is unproven in this league. Once he proves himself in both fronts, he will be expensive to keep but in 2 years the entire Spurs current support cast could be changing anyways.

Welcome Bertans!!! Happy to see you in Spurs!

With his history, lotto team aren't going to give up a 1st rd pick for him. Toronto is the perfect situation for him where he can play 20-25 minutes on a pretender & live in a cosmopolitan city. Craptors own the Cripples 2017 1st rd pick so they can swap him for it.

Okay now that I see it laid out, not a bad looking roster, with the Baltic/Balkan additions.

Just need Parker to 'stay in his lane' and let that Kawhi guy handle the end of game offense, and I see another 67+ win total.

Thinking the same thing, I am hoping the Spurs ship him for LACs 2017 picks. Decent chance that pick will end up being around 25.

Utah makes plenty of sense too, they don't have much behind Golbert and Favors. They have a slew of picks if Toronto and Utah both pursue Diaw then Utah could give us both GSWs '17 1st round pick (certainly 30th) and maybe Detroit's second round pick ( top 45 possibly)

That'd be a steep price to pay and a disappointment. They should have the cap space to give him a $4M/2 deal with pure cap space, even accounting for everything else.

Yes, and that's what I've been assuming for a long time. The room exception is quite a bit bigger than that, though. The reason why it would be a disappointment is because it could break up what is actually a pretty good asset, when they'd have the cap room is Duncan just made his damned decision. Who the hell needs until 7/10 to make up their minds? That's just so random.

Bench unit is starting to look more solid....Mills/Simmons or Manu/Bertans/Anderson/???.

Question now is whether Duncan returns, or if the Spurs can retain Boban. Frankly, one or the other needs to happen, or we will have a big hole to fill.

Forget that. He could have done whatever he wanted while opting out. He chose to put money into this cap situation, and he really does owe it to them to be reasonable with this decision, especially considering they're about to give him a fortune to sit at home.

Well you're ignoring the fact that he's torn. We're talking about one of the greats contemplation if he wants to continue..seems like there's still a little fire. I don't care what the Spurs do rest of season if I get to see 21 play a "official" final year I'd do it.

Bench for sure: Mills/Murray/Simmons/Kyle

If Bertans gets cap space, Manu gets Room Exception that gives SA a bench of:

Don't forget that either Tim is a Spur, or they likely can afford another decent free agent, or at least keep Boban.

That's right, because if Manu takes the RE, then SA would have ~4M in cap space even after Bertans if he's getting the min or close.

In your scenario you have Tim at 2M in cap space because he's stretched correct.

Well you're ignoring the fact that he's torn. We're talking about one of the greats contemplation if he wants to continue..seems like there's still a little fire. I don't care what the Spurs do rest of season if I get to see 21 play a "official" final year I'd do it.

My gut has told me all along he will play one more year. As such, I haven't even mentally prepared for the fact that we may never see a #21 don a Spurs jersey.

In retrospect, it would probably be most Duncan-like for him to retire now...to avoid the glitz of a farewell tour which he personally criticized (re: Kobe) and just walk off into the sunset under the radar. If he comes back for "one more year", it's gonna be hard to avoid the spotlight.

I have simply no idea what he is going to do at this point. And considering the fact that Tim took the option but hasn't announced anything since...its possible he doesn't quite know either.

He's been underwhelming for sure. Very timid. He's a decent floor leader and looks to make plays for everyone else, but hasn't really looked for his own shot in the first two summer league games.

It's just a min deal right now, they could cut him anytime, i suppose, or just fill in that 3rd stringer PG role

I'm saying if you trade Patty, now you are down a player for him then if you cut him, really tough. Spurs guard depth, even with Manu, is rough and can't afford to trade Mills unless you get a proven NBA player.

Well, my thinking was Manu could just be the de-facto backup PG. They could go cheap with a shooter like Forbes and trade Patty's $3m deal for something better than a min deal big.

Parker/Danny/Kawhi/LMA/Pau

Bench for sure: Mills/Murray/Simmons/Kyle

If Bertans gets cap space, Manu gets Room Exception that gives SA a bench of:

Mills/Manu/Simmons/Kyle/Bertans/Murray

That is only 11 players and at least two bigs short with nothing but minimum contracts and trades to fill the holes.

Well, they have their two former first round picks in LCJ and Mulitinov, but yeah, the point is well taken: the big situation is rough.

I know it was probably prearranged and Jean-Charles could attempt to force their hand, but they really can't afford to be handing a player, who by all accounts doesn't appear to be an NBA player, a roster spot.

If Forbes pulls a Neal and basically forces his way onto the team, they'll only have one spot left and they'll need both a rotation caliber power forward (even if the plan is to play Anderson mostly as the backup power forward, there's certain match-ups he won't be able to play it and if Aldridge went down, they'd be screwed) and depth center.

Who says Tim hasn't made up his mind? Just because it isn't public...

Even with Dedmon and Anderson likely to primarily play power forward, there's still a clear need for another big. I definitely wouldn't sign Davis though.

Last time I saw Fat Baby getting playoff minutes he was shutting down Diaw 1.5.:wakeup

He would also be useful against Choke-P3 when they face each other in the 2nd rd:

Davis, who hasn’t played in an NBA game in over a year after undergoing ankle surgery in September, was critical of his ex-teammate, particularly for dribbling the ball too much. “He has his way about himself,” Davis said when asked if Paul was a problem in the locker room. “It’s, ‘I’m Chris Paul, give me the ball, I’m gonna dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, dribble, might pass if it looks good, or I’ll shoot.'” (http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nba/2016/06/10/glen-davis-chris-paul-blake-griffin-la-clippers/85694160/)

Maybe, but then they'd literally be handing a 1st round pick away.

By the time next season starts, that will have been a year and a half ago. Besides, he's not really Spurs material and wouldn't fill a need for a floor spacer.
