Won't happen until Duncan's situation is resolved.

Maybe Duncan will be on coaching staff.

I mean, I really don't know what happens if Tim plays this year :lol? Based on Manu's agents' comments & reports of a large 1 year deal for Manu, I don't see how they can pay Manu and have Tim come back and his full salary count. That would mean having to trade another 4M in salary.

Manure was probably trying to hand him the contract but turned it over

I really don't worry about it because SA isn't dumb. I mean, SA really wanted Gasol.

He should be signing soon. He's with Pop having dinner at a restaurant in Pearl now.

What a shitty comparison - how'd you do on the analogy portion of the SAT's?

I thought you could pay your own players whatever you wanted. You can exceed the salary cap for your own guys.

That's what I thought too - if they're signed last?

I'll use some round numbers to illustrate where they are.

In order to sign Gasol, they need about 15M in cap space. Everyone under contract counts for the amount of their contract. Free agents that haven't been renounced have a cap hold based on their previous salary. There are also cap holds for first round picks and roster spots if there are less than 12 players accounted for.

Duncan opted in, so he counts for his salary of about 6M. Manu opted out, so his cap hold counts for about 4M. When everything else is accounted for, the Spurs do not have sufficient cap space to sign Gasol. If Duncan is not coming back, they can use the stretch provision on his salary and his cap number would go down to about 2M. That would create enough cap space to sign Gasol. Once he has signed (plus anyone else that uses cap space like Bertans), then the Spurs can sign Manu to any amount up to the max.

This is all just so weird. I expected Tim to have worked out all the contingencies with the FO in the last month or so. It's hard to imagine what the holdup is; maybe Tim really is retiring and the Spurs are having trade talks with teams about getting back a player for Tim's contract? But then the Spurs would have to renounce Manu leaving only the minimum or a bit extra, and that doesn't seem to be happening...

Yeah, it makes no sense to me.

Yeah, it's strange. I'm all for giving Timmy whatever time he needs, but if he decides to play the team will face some very poor choices.

What would happen if Tim decided to come back? Does that mean they couldn't sign certain players they made agreements with?

Either that or having to trade more players to free up the money or guys (like Manu) taking way less.

I thought Gasol was still in Spain practicing for the Olympics with the national team.

Thanks. I still want Tim back if that knee gets better. I think these deadlines for free agency signings are pushing him to make a decision faster than he'd like. I mean, what would happen if his knee feels better in another month or two?

Hey baseline bum...

You and your troll friends are still trying to bury my posts to keep young people from seeing them. I might as will link to them in your threads. I don't have many other options.

He can't pull a DeAndre Jordan on the Spurs franchise with it's culture, history, etc. That would look so bad on his part. Duncan just retired, so in terms of a team that needs him and is a perfect fit, it's the Spurs so he'll sign.

I lived in Mexico City for four years back in the eighties and I talked to a lot of people from south of the Mexican border too. What they all told me was consistent with the info in that thread.

Bullshit, the only thing you did in Mexico City was fuck your mother some more without even the common decency to pay the coyote to get her across the river after. I spit on you.
