View Full Version : Will Matt Bonner play again?

Yay a Bonner thread! :downspin:

But really, a serious question ... what are the chances that Bonner signs with a team this offseason?

On the one hand, his case is very strong. He says he wants to play. His 3P% remains very, very high. He's a popular clubhouse character across the league, both to players and to FO folks. He's "only" a little below average on defense per "advanced stats." Situationally he can be a very effective player. And he'll almost certainly agree to a vet min contract.

On the other hand, he's a rental who does nothing for a club's future, and he's at an age where who knows how much he'll decline next year (in all aspects, but especially speed/defense).

I look at a team like Toronto which is in strong need of bigs, shooting, and clubhouse influence, and I kind of wonder why that hasn't happened already. But then again, despite his otherworldly per minute stats last year, there's of course good reason he barely played at all.

So -- what do you think? Will he sign? Should I stop searching Google News for the term "bonner" every day?

I hope he comes back. We're dead in the water this year anyway.

i wouldn't wish him on my worst enemy...well, maybe the Dubs. At least then, they'd have one lump of shit amongst their superteam.

Yes. Regardless of what the NBA teams do with Bonner, yes.

it would be a travesty if he tries to outlast TD and become the longest tenured Spur of all-time...at this rate, that wouldn't surprise me, unfortunately.

If he wants to be back he will, book it.. Pop can't say no to him, he is immune to being released or even looking other places to land at because Pop loves him so damn much.. For some reason.

He should bring his talents to the Gay Area. Gasol will love to rebound against him and relive those cherished moments of playing against turd towers.

Idk it'd make the year more fun to see him get more playing time.

Do you want to throw the season? More playing time? That would make me pull my damn hair out, he sucks now! They need to develop young guys, not older guys like him with no ceiling anymore and just way past their prime. He needs to retire already.

It just depends on how many people are signed. Spurs will resign him if there's a spot.

Time to move him upstairs into front office Public Relations position or assistant coach.

He's only made it this far to appeal a certain demographic....

Don't pick up the fucker's phone calls and let him sign with the Reno Bighorns of the D-League if he still wants to play basketball.

Give the faggot's annual salary to charity of something.

Wasn't there talk of him going to Boston to end his career in his home state? May have just been a joke, but if he's not going up to the FO, I'd support the move to Boston.

honestly yeah. The season is gonna be terrible. We do need to develop our young guys. I think we have a solid core of young players who will make us good again in a few years. We had to let go of the fat, which should include bonner but its not like were gonna get anyone by dropping him.

Bonner wants to finish his career in Boston. He made that public, so I'm sure his agent has been in touch with them. I'm surprised that they haven't announced that they are signing him yet. I bet there are just so many bidders in the Bonner Sweepstakes that he's weighing all his options. :rolleyes

I still think they get a decent seed and 55 wins man, the aren't THAT bad. It will be good to see the young guys out there playing though, this is no doubt a transition year. Those who think they are going to win 60 plus again and get a 2nd seed though might be in for a little surprise if they start out slow.

I think the FO has decided to reload on young energetic blood. Sadly I think Matty's time has come :(.. I'm just hoping we see some good playing time on the new recruits
