I don't think there will ever be an argument over his basketball skills. He'll probably go down as one of the greats ever. BUT does his lack of media savy mean he'll be remembered as sort of a present day Kareem? Now whenever people talk about Kareem they always bring up the fact that he was short with the media. I know Timmy probably isn't as hostile with the media as Kareem was, but does his desire to stay almost completely out of the media limelight mean he'll be looked at in a negative light by the same media 10 - 15 years down the line?

It completely depends at this point on how many rings he leaves with.

If Duncan retires TODAY how will be people remember him?

3 championships,2 league MVPs,7 All-stars and on and on and on....

Now if Duncan retires a Spur in the year 2014.He will probably have at least
5 champioships if not 7.

I love the way Timmy gets pissed in games and comes out with a vengence, his eyes all wide open, him hugging the ball before each game, the man is a silent assasin

WHY?WHY? would we want a circus freak like Shnak? (granted he's got a big heart) BUT a big MOUTH to go with it!
WHY? would we want to have a dysfunctional, fist punching, marihuana, rapist, ball hogging center of attention being remembered as the greatest Spur EVER????

I'll pass!

Thank GOD for landing Duncan with the #1 pick!

media hates it when stars don't feed them, and the media helps shape public opinions (people are sheep). he'll be put in the same category as pete sampras - great superstar that doesn't want to be a very public person. i think people should respect his wishes. but media doesn't care.

Tim will totally drop off the radar when he retires...but he will always be the "gold standard" at power forward for the "next greatest player" to be compared to...

maybe, however pete sampras is already considered the most dominant, best player, in the history of Tennis. Despite his preference to not feed the media.

I don't know anyone (that has any knowldege about basketball) that doesnt consider Kareem a legend.

But there are a LOT of people that view him negatively. Not for his skills...but his personality. Kareem was apparently the kind of person that you could be standing next to him and ask him a question...and he would act like you didnt even exist. A lot of his teamates didnt really care for him much...same with the media.

I dont think Tim fits into that kind of category though. Sure Tim doesnt like talking much...but at least he is polite about it. I dont think there is too many press personel that dont like him...despite the fact that he doesnt talk much.

Hell...Kareem says he was blacklisted from the league after he retired because so many people didnt like him.

There is a beyond the glory or something like that which talks about a lot fo that stuff with Kareem.

He even admits he went about things the wrong way and has tried to rehab his image so that he can get a job in the league again.

Timmy will be remembered as the best power forward to ever play the game, an MVP, and a multiple world champion. Also, he'll be viewed as a low profile, humble, and stoic figure.

Kareem is a very different type of guy. It wasn't like Tim who doesn't seek out media attention. Kareem was an asshole to the media. It wasn't because he didn't want the limelight. It was because he didn't like criticism. Kareem still wanted the limelight. You see Kareem in movies and commercials. Shoot, he was even in a Bruce Lee movie while he was still playing, before he retired. He likes to be in the media. He's just an asshole and a pothead.

That's very much different than how Tim Duncan is with the media. Tim is not media friendly because he doesn't care about the limelight, not because he's avoiding criticism. There's a big difference between him and Kareem and how Tim will eventually be viewed.

Classic. That's what I was thinking about when I saw the heading of the thread. Tim is Da Man.

IMO, there is a slim to none chance that Tim will involves himself with the Basketball

Yup, TD will leave the game alot like Barry Sanders left the game...a camera will rarely find him.

hahahahaha..life is good for us Spurs fans isn't it ?

We make predictions about TD getting 2-4 more rings before he is done...yes friends, we are SPOILED !! I love it though:)

Just think back to '95 and remember the feeling we all had then wondering if the Spurs would EVER win a title...and now were talking about a 4th:)

I've met Kareem and the guy's a dick. Until Tim beats someones ass for a parking space I think his legacy is alright.
