I think messi reached in '11-'12-'13 a point in his career where he could say exactly who plays and who coaches argentina and he hasn't used this, also he is such a great player that he should know how to use the privilege of playing with him on other players (a combination of intimidation and inspiration). That's why I am correctly saying that he lacks leadership, he just doesn't use these cards, he hasn't forced the federation to give him a quality coach (and then support him long term) and hasn't whipped/inspired colleagues enough (kick some, bench some, promote some). If he'd go public with any of these demands the Argentine press would go berzerk to help him. Crying and giving it all on the pitch is not enough from a certain level up, look at what jordan did, look at what lebron has been doing, look at what zidane did on his teams, look at maradona's impact, GOATing is more than just playing brilliant, GOATing means dominating the game on all facets (coach, locker room, press, pitch).

Back to back CL is definitely better than a treble but if we are being realistic about the euro that might have been the weakest euro of the last 49 years in a time when you had more crappy teams making it and the only reason Portugal qualified is because they changed the rules to allow more teams in the knockout stage otherwise it would have been s pretty embracing exit for Ronaldo. They also had the easiest bracket and they won a final WITHOUT him. I think they looked better without him in that match than any other game in that tourney. Ronaldo getting injured screwed up France's gameplan.
