View Full Version : Spurs: How do you feel about the Spurs future?

I've always had 2 predictions since the 3 peat Laker teams and that is 1) After Dr. Buss dies the Lakers will be shit for at least 15 years and 2) Once Duncan retires Pop will eventually follow and the Spurs franchise will just be a gate keeper team for years to come. The core is still good but not great imho.

What are Spur fans thinking about their future in all honesty?

The Spurs will have a slight window to ring when Lebron declines and Kawhi reaches his peak. However, I really do think that the next 3-5 years will go to GSW.

We probably will be the Indiana Pacers of the second half of the 90s. Good, with a chance now and then to cause problems for the superteam. But after all we might not ring for several years, as beating Dubs will not leave us with anything for the Finals.

Still a Top 2-6 team most years at least until Pop says goodbye.

There are worse things than that!

As the team stands now maybe 2nd round or WCF is our ceiling for the foreseeable future. Don't see a ring unless we can make a big addition one of these offseasons or there is an injury to either the warriors or Lebron.

kawhi is great LMA showed he's a no show, I have no idea how much defense they'll lose with Duncan gone but it will probably be too much. They would need everything to fall into their lap ala golden state in 2015 to win again though.

Hard not to be optimistic for the most successful sports franchise of the past 20 years, but they might get stuck in draft position purgatory being good enough to make the playoffs, but not good enough to win it all

Honestly, I see 2 likely outcomes: 1. eternal mediocrity. Aldridge is good, but no Timmay. Manu holds them back. TP ages ungracefully with the current rules, KL is really the only bright star, and the Spurs will make the 2nd round each year. Not bad enough to get a good draft pick, not good enough to attract top tier FAs.
2. Aldridge and KL step up to true 2 way star status. They jel now that TD isnt holding the development back. TP takes his diminished role gracefully. Manu stays healthy. Spurs contend for Western Conference championships, but only have 1 title caliber run 2 years from now.

Cavs have at most another two years. People are underestimating Lebron's mileage; it's gonna hit hit eventually and when it does it'll hit hard.

For sure. If you noticed, the lakers are signing all these players with injury history. They got cap space they have to spend, but there is no one to spend it on because they suck so bad, so what they did was to get players who often get injured, give them a high salary, wait for them to get injured, and voila, insurance to the rescue!

Simply brilliant.

Hopeful but a lot of negs to overcome.
10% chance of title til after 2020.

Hoping against hope that Aldridge morphs into a version at or near repeat Game 1 and 2 vs OKC.
Gasol I'm hoping he has championship aspirations and is not just collecting a few more paychecks before he checks out. The Boban cut, for enthusiasm purposes alone just sucks major ass. Let alone getting some balls back under the rim.

If we run into the likes of Doc Rivers and Billy Donovan types again, I just don't see how we are going to advance. :depressed The *head* strategists overuse of Playoff Porker no doubt will continue for two more years.

I think they will have an '04 like Pistons run sometime during these 4 years. I'm one of the few who don't think the Warriors are going to go to 5 straight finals or the Cavs are going to win 5 in a row. Realistically both of these teams will burn out in 2 years due to all the wear and tear from the grind of 82 games and the playoffs.

Spurs don't have inbuilt advantages that big market teams have. Once they dip too far, there's a good chance there will be a decade or two of mediocrity. However, if Kawhi can ring without Tim, then the excellence may continue to be a gold standard team, imo. The next year or two are vastly important, imo.

2nd fiddle to GSW for the rest of Aldridge's prime unless Curry's ankles explode. Or maybe we tank one year and get another top pick and can't miss legend and alpha dog. LMA and Kawhi's intangibles concern me, 2014 finals notwithstanding.

Of course you can't take being spanked.

I made a simple innocuous point that large market teams have an advantage within the course of discussion about the Spurs (not a large market team). Then you came in with your attack-dog Laker schtick to derail the convo. I wasn't that nice after that when I gave you a chance to walk it back. So, in a certain sense I can see why you weren't so inclined to do so. But I'm being frank and I'm being plenty civil now. If you come at me like that in the future (like you've done many times now), I'm not going to be nice about it. I mean, you seem to thrive on this petty drama; so, I imagine I'm spinning my wheels. But don't let it be said that I'm not giving you a chance; though, this is the only warning. You pull that sh** against me again and I'll treat you like the petulant child you want to act like.

And for the record, LAL vs. Spurs fan smacktalk has its place; but when you start coming at me with ad hominem sh** that was never even meant to be about the Lakers, I'm not going to tolerate that nonsense from you. Believe it or not, not everything said is said with your third rate team in mind.

Optimistic, depends on Pop more than anyone knows. There is indeed a super team, but you need luck every season to reach the end. Spurs have a lot more shooting and athleticism than they had last season, the question mark is what is Pop going to do with those guys.

Spurs look better than most for next few years. LMA won't decline very much, his game is under the rim. The reason Tim lasted so long. Spurs will emulate that with lma. Kawhi is easily a top player who still isn't close to peaking. His prime is a few years away. Green can play th same for a few years. Murray looks like a legitimate prospect. His development could alter the spurs contention years. Pop is on for at least 4 more.

The rest are expendable or moveable and lma and Kawhi are still the best forward combination next to Durant and green. Except gsw can't improve. No more money for big moves. Spurs can make a big move still and tilt things in their favor to contend. Next years free agency will be more meaningful than this year. Big names up for grabs. Can see movement. In the west, I don't see anyone outside of GS giving spurs too much of a hassle.

Looking at some good years heading forward. Can compete. Will be fun seeing spurs with new faces getting heavy minutes. Need to get some more prospects. Spurs foreign well is drying up.

However, wouldn't be surprised AT ALL to see the Spurs

stay elite and win titles over the next 10 years.
