Seriously...I could have sworn that they said it was the ghost pepper. Now it seems like their are several ahead of it. The hottest being the Carolina Reaper.
It can't be as bad as these chicks make it out to be.

I thought the Chocolate Bhutlah was supposed to be worse than the Carolina Reaper. Habanero is as hot as I'll go though. :lol

The pepper we use in Jamaica is Scotch Bonnet - not so hot but VERY flavorful.

I always thought those were supposed to be close matches with habaneros?

I know nothing about habaneros but according to this, they're cousins:

How hot is HOT? Well, spicy has its own measurement. The Scoville Scale is used to measure the heat in peppers in Scoville Heat units (SHU). It is a function of the main phytochemical in peppers that give them their heat, called capsaicin. The habanero chili peppers are 260,000 SHU, whereas the Scotch bonnet pepper is about 445,000 SHU. Not sure how hot this is? As a reference, jalapeņo peppers are only about 1000-4000 SHU.
Sounds like Scotch bonnet is very hot - I guess I'm so used to it I don't consider it hot :-) We also use Pickapeppa sauce with our rice and peas (not really peas but kidney beans).
