View Full Version : Fantasy 4x100 for middle school

I struggled putting this together. My biggest dilemma was what leg would I be best suited for. My 200m time suggests the 2nd or 4th. But it also suggests that I'm strong on the turn. I eliminated the first leg because of my speed build up coefficient. Also, I'm strong on taking the handoff so it let's me put someone weaker in that 1 leg.

1. Titus Richardson - cat was a 100m MONSTER. Incredible acceleration. His top 100m time was around 10 or so.
2. Bohannan Watkins - guy was a total asshole but fast as hell. He didn't run in actual track meets but when we played football, he came the closest to being able to catch me. My best guess is that he could also run near a 10.0 100.
3. SpursforSix - while I didn't run the 100m, my 200m time puts me in the same tier as these other dudes
4. Will Flasterjack - I competed against him several times over the years in the 4x100. He never ran the same leg as me but he always made ground on my teammates. Estimated 100m time...high 9's to low 10's.

Caveat: I made this list of middle school sprinters that I knew.

your only problem is the other 3 holding you back. don't let them cling to your shooting star.

Can't really argue with that list tbh, you really know your stuff when it comes to track and field.

It's a group effort. And you can apply this to any team sport you want. There is always going to be someone at the top. On the dream team, you have...Michael Jordan, David Robinson, Charles Barkley. Does DRob suck because Jordan is the best? No. It's about being able to assemble the top group. Not just the best only.

Even if you're part of a group...there's things you just know not to do. Jump off a cliff, shoot up marijuana, have sex with children. Those kind of things.

Why not talk anout:
Olusoji Fasuba who holds the African record in the 100m. 9.85 if I remember correctly.
And Seun Ogunkoya. He ran a 9.91 (possibly wind aided).

Watch,

Why would I fill out lists for someone who isn't going to know if they're right or wrong.
Let's talk about you leaving "the fastest African", Olusoji Fasuba, off your Nigerian 4x100.

That would be like leaving Bolt off the Jamaica team.

A "legit" discussion using make believe sprinters, hahahaha!!!!!!!!!!

What we have is a guy who lied about running a 20.00 trying everything to deflect now. He knows how stupid that is now, something he didn't know when he lied.

Speaking of fast high school 200m sprinters, it gets no better than this.

Dwayne Eugene Evans (born October 13, 1958) is an American (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/United_States) athlete who mainly competed in the 200 meters.
He competed for the United States in the 1976 Summer Olympics (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/1976_Summer_Olympics) held in Montreal (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Montreal), Canada (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Canada), where he won the bronze medal in the men's 200 metres event. That same year, he had just graduated from South Mountain High School (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/South_Mountain_High_School) in Phoenix, Arizona (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Phoenix,_Arizona).[1] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-1) That year he also set the still standing NFHS (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/National_Federation_of_State_High_School_Associati ons) national high school records in the 220 yard dash at 20.5. The federation converted record-keeping to metric distances shortly afterward.[2] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-2) He was Track and Field News (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Track_and_Field_News) "High School Athlete of the Year" in 1976.[3] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-3) He continued to run, achieving his PR of 20.08 in 1987.
Evans is currently coaching Track (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Track_and_field) at South Mountain High School in Phoenix, Arizona (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Phoenix,_Arizona), and has twin daughters who are track athletes at Texas Tech University (http://www.spurstalk.com/wiki/Texas_Tech_University).[4] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-4)[5] (http://www.spurstalk.com/forums/#cite_note-5)

Avante, what about Houston McTear?

Cool~~~

As just a junior in HS he tied the 9.0 WR (Ivory Crokett). As a RB at Baker HS he averages over 13 yards a carry.

And he was better indoors where he set 6 WR's in six meets. Too bad he was never ran at a major university, yep...dumb.

The real bummer is there is no video of him.

my grandfather told us a lot of stories about bohannon watkins. he said bohannon was one of those guys who was just naturally fast. he would sleep all day long and wake up the morning of a meet, eat a heavy breakfast of grits, bacon, eggs w/cheese and a stack of johnny cakes, get to the track 20 mins before his race, not stretch and smoke the competitionhttp://i64.tinypic.com/23lh25k.png

theres a rumors that bohannon can dance underwater and not get wet.

If the internet would have been around then, we'd at least know what life dealt him that kept him from playing college football. And possibly the NFL. He was the kid that nowadays, coaches would be at he doorstep asking what his plans were after high school. I'd love to know what happened to him. Probably the same old story about getting involved with the wrong people. Or maybe just loss focus. It's amazing how many high potential kids in high school will get a girlfriend and then put sports second to her. But it's rare to find that guy that will actually realize their potential and give up everything else to reach it.

yup ,malcolm gladwell wrote a book called 'outliers' that dealt with successful athletes. he said it takes roughly 10,000 hours of practice to master a field. 10,000 hours of just doing whatever sport you're playing to be great at it. crazy to think bohannon probably only cracked 5 total practice hours in his short time(races last only 10 or so seconds, he was notorious for skipping practices) and he was a legend. imagine if he had that drive and determination of a usain bolt.

I've heard the 10,000 hours theory. Pretty interesting. You could probably apply that to other fields. Playing an instrument comes to mind. So many kids picking up a guitar and being decent at it. Then think they're going to be a rock start. Not realizing that in most cases, even the guitar player for the shittiest band on the radio has put in those kind of hours. Although as opposed to sports, I think it probably takes a lot of luck and the right connections to make it in music.

But I digress...Bohannon was a freak of nature. He reminds of the guys we'd play in pick up games at the local college. Out there smoking between games then come out and show something special that was never developed.

2.Ken Thomas SJS 10.0HT

6.Tyreek Hill Okie State/Western Alabams 20.14 200m

Only the Raiders are better than that. I could fill 16 lanes with speedy Raiders.

Speaking of Bohannan being an asshole.

I heard he had words with Flasterjack that were not so kind. It would be tough having these two characters on the same team it seems. Have you kept up with either? There are rumors they both ballooned up to 275 pounds, and since both were rumored to be around 6 2" it's really a shame. Anyway, I'm sure both got lots of flag football trophies to fall back on since their bodies spill over into other people's seats on airline flights.

You shouldn't listen to all the rumors. Sure, there are a lot of egos involved in my hypothetical team. And yeah...a little bad blood as well. But put all four of us on a track, and there's only one thing that matters. Getting gold. Maybe setting a record. Trust me...even if Flasterjack would have fucked Bohannan's mom, those two would still get on the same track and run their asses off.

No, I have no idea what happened to any of those guys.

You couldn't even name the top Nigerian sprinters. When I called you out, you still wouldn't admit to it. So I'm not going to correctly fill out some list that you don't even know the answer to but you'll still insist you're right. It's just not worth my time.

Love the 4x1.

Let's look at those who excelled on the individual legs.

Lead off. Here ya want that guy with a blazin' start who can also cook a curve.

Nesta Carter Jamaica
Mike Marsh UCLA
Jon Drummond TCU
Andre Cason Tex A&M

Long second leg, here ya want a guy who can cook a 200m, if ya handoff early in the zone and handoff late, this sprinter can run the largest % of the 4x1.

Leroy Burrell Houston
Ato Boldon Trinidad/UCLA
Justin Gatlin Tennessee
Bernard Williams Florida

Once again ya need a guy who can run a solid 200 because of the curve.

Calvin Smith Alabama
Shawn Crawford Clemson
Dennis Mitchell Florida
Bruny Surin Canada....not a 200 guy at all, hmmmm?

On anchor ya need that guy who has that great 100m PR, a guy with superior speed endurance. He decellerates slower than the norm.

Bullet Bob Hayes Florida A&M
Carl Lewis Houston
Usian Bolt Jamaica
Donovan Bailey Canada

But, ya can be competitive running average sprinters if the stick work is great. A French team once ran a WR without any "great" sprinters there. Both Japan and China have ran great times using very average sprinters.

SFS being my equal on sprint knowledge, what is your take on this? Anyone who ran a 20.00 as a kid I need to pay attention to.

The USA had a faster sprinter (100m times) on every leg over Japan, so what happened?

Looking out over the fantail and there stands Viet Nam.

Seeing this as it happened....

It's just so damn funny watching you little people and how ya act over this. Ya know I know all that stuff but ya MUST play all that bullshit, hahahahaha~~~~~~~~

I notice nobody ever tries to give Avante a trivia contest, and I know why.....ya don't know any questions to ask...hahahahahaha~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

1. Who was the last white sprinter to run on a USA Olympic 4x1 relay?

2. Give me the names of 4 sprinters who beat Jesse Owens in the sprints?

3. The first Olympic sprinter to play in the NFL (Thorpe was a decathlete)

4. What HOF NFLer was also a World Champion pro rassler?

5. Who was the last Ivy Leaguer to run on a USA Olympic 4x1 relay?

So I stop at this chillie dog stand in Porterville, while sitting at a table waiting for my three chilie dogs and a coke, this real old guy...

old guy...so you're a Niner fan? (I wear a Niner ball cap)
Avante...all my life.
old guy...me too, what has happened to us?
Avante...we let Harbaugh go.
old guy...remember R.C.Owens?
Avante...yep, he once blocked a field goal standing under the crossbar.

(I grab my order while still talking)

old guy...yes he did, then there was J.D.Smith
Avante....a converted DB from North Carolina A&T
old guy....I didn't know that, Was he smooth or what?
Avante...as silk, he seemed to glide.
old guy....glide, yes that was it...glide.
Avante...I;m sure you remember Joe Perry, huh?
old guy....oh yes, The Jet. Then there was The King
Avante..Hugh McElhenny

(he gets a call on his phone)

old guy...I really enjoyed chatting with you young man (I guess to an 80 year old I might be a young man) nice to find somebody who knows the Niners. Have a great day son.
Avante....you too my friend.

After finishing my chillie dogs, I get up to leave when a Raider fan...you guys need a QB.

Avante...I can't disagree.
Raider fan....as big as you are you should be on that shit offensive line.
Avante....Derek Carr, the guy has it going, huh?
Raider fan....best we;ve had since Stabler.
Avante...Gannon could play.
Raider fan....since Rich Gannon, you're right he could play.
Avante...I can see 9-7 and maybe a wild card this season for you guys.
Raider fan...you read my mind, that's what I was thinking.
Avante..hey, have a good one, I gotta jam.
Raider fan...good luck tonight.
Avante...good luck Sunday.
