That 2001 "playoff" between the West Coast was a doozy.

Though he did send Strom into Massachusetts in the Summer of '85.

Same # of games played by all teams.
What, you want the Championship cancelled for 1999?
Guaranteed you would accept another Minneapolis title had the Flamers won in '99.

For 2007 there is butt salve for you and Nash.
Nash got over it the next day, even admitting he embellished.
LakerPhan on the other hand.....:lol

...and still just as worthless. Niggas minds were on their wallets, and the NBA was still reeling from the loss of MJ. It was the darkest "season" of Stern's tenure. The Lakers experimented with Dennis Rodman ffs:lmao...if that don't tell you how other teams thought about that year then nothing will. Had to wikipedia this shit tbh, but here was your playoff run: T-wolves (lol), an immature Laker team, Blazers (not nearly as good as the team LAL faced the following year). It was such a pathetic charade that the only highlight I can think of from that season is Larry Johnson's 4-pt play against Indy in the ECF. To put emphasis on how little work was put in, the Spurs played a total of 67 games--only one more than the 2012(?) regular season. 2000 only emphasized how worthless 1999 was--your boy couldn't take the grind of a full NBA season. Only now do we realize it was the weight of expectations that fucked his knee up--dude just couldn't hack it as a defending champion.

*98-99 is a skidmark. You should be ashamed to hang that banner, but you were a desperate franchise at the time so it's understandable.

All we need to know was that everyone was snorting coke back in the 80s, and yet only two teams were destroyed due to suspensions to drug uses in that era - the rockets and the Mavs.

The rockets beat the lakers in the 86 playoffs on the backs of athletic wings to the way to the finals before losing to the Celtics in 6 games. The following year "injuries" and suspensions started falling out of the sky like a plague, focusing on those athletic wings. The rockets proceeded to suck for a few years until the entire roster was revamped around 92/93.

The Mavs pushed the lakers to seven games in the 88 playoffs, with a certain player named ROY tarpley absolutely bullying the aging lakers frontline. The next year, tarpley was handed a suspension and the Mavs proceeded to suck for decades until dirk, Finley and Nash, with a little bit of revival with the Jason Kidd, jimmy Jackson and Jamal mashburn lineup before Toni Braxton put a stop to that.

Coincidence? Maybe. But no other team suffered as much with the exception of the Celtics (with Len bias) and Chris Washburn, but those were rookies and made boneheaded choices.

Sure, the players deserved to be suspended, but then the entire league was running on coke, and the ONLY teams that were affected the most were both legit threats to the lakers-Celtics money tree? Sounds like too much of a coincidence to me.

History repeated itself, with Richard Dumas being kicked out of the league when the suns threatened the Bulls. People don't remember how close those Suns/bulls games were in the finals, and Dumas was a legit threat because he can reasonably matchup with Pippen or Jordan, taking one of the two threats by himself without having the entire Suns collapse.

But Jordan one upped the league and bought himself a two year hiatus.

That said, the league probably won't reach these heights with Mavs vs Pistons finals or rockets vs bucks.

Stern will go down as one of the biggest villains of all-time, tbh. And Silver pulls a lot of the same sh**, tbh. Rigged lotteries, pay for play refs, etc.

Oh yea. Well, if there's anything to the idea that Len Bias was killed by factions, I'd like to know. That basically swung the pendulum. Even in 91, I felt the C's were better than the Bulls when healthy. And I could totally see Stern blocking Sabonis to help the Lakers; but I've not read anything on it.
