Ok people, spill the beans.
This used to be on TNT every Halloween...it's hilarious now, but I still subconsciously close the drapes every night. I want no part of that Danny Glick shit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w1unHCE_Npw
Saw this on HBO when I was 5 or 6...horrible film, but it was the first time I ever thought about the possibility of my parents dying...always stayed with me.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MaKbcPek4wg
I would add Jacob's Ladder, but it wasn't cheesy--just way too disturbing for a 7 yr old. I don't think I could stomach that movie today.

Once when my mom was out of town, my dad tried to entertain me and my brother with his favorite movies. The very first one was the original "Planet of the Apes". I got so scared I didn't sleep all weekend and neither did he. And then he REALLY got in trouble when my mom returned :lol

The "Cheesy" qualifier threw me off. Had to go back into the stacks. Finally found it. '68..."Wild In The Streets." Not the plot, because that is the epitome of cheesy, but, the application of the plot's intent. There is a sense in this film. Due in most part because the production paid for a cast of genuine stalwarts (Ed Begley) especially, Shelley Winters as well, a younger Hal Holbrook and a hot ass Diane Varsi. Richard Pryor is here as well. The camera is set at angles, reminds a bit of the angles used in the same era's cheesy/comedic "Batman." And there is a lingering comedy here, but, it's fleeting and frustrating as it never sets, but, sets you up. Cockeyed the camera causes angst as the roundup of "parents" is executed. There is a scene where LSD in liquid form is introduced into the country's water supply. Another where the refuge parents are discovered and dealt with.
& one wouldn't think so, but, it's aged well. It works, still.
Christopher Jones, on tippy top as the '60's crept-year-by-year is the main character. Everything in front of him. A summer later his girl would be carved up in Los Angeles and left where Manson's people found her. It broke him.

Happened to me too but with Robocop. That scene where they execute the cop got me as a kid. I tried to be slick and tell my dad I had to go take a shit so I wouldn't have to see that part but he paused the movie so I wouldn't miss it. :lol

Yah I member those.
What made them extra terrifying was serious adults telling kids that it was seriously going to happen
My boys got scared by Jaws - will not go into the water at the beach - such a pity since we live in Miami.
I didn't like The Omen - scared the living daylights out of me.

Fine citation. Billie Whitelaw as the nanny brings the film into sharp focus. It lags a bit till she comes aboard. Her scene in the hospital room with Remick. Christ-a-mighty.
Brings another scary scene to the fore:::When Karen Black [turns] & throws Oliver Reed out the upstairs window in "Burnt Offerings."

Hell yeah. We've talked about this one before Cub. I mention this movie to people in real life and I don't think I've ever come across anyone who remembers it. My bed faced the door and I don't know how many nights I'd lie there and see that chauffeur push the coffin through it.
But I don't think I'd call this movie cheesy. Maybe a bit dated. But it's one of the superior takes on the haunted house genre. Great final scene with the photos.

Definitely not "cheesy." The kids reaction in the dream sequence is correct and fuels the scene. The production told him how to play it and the child nailed it there.
So, do think she throws him out that window, or, does he dive thru it as a like a suicide?
I think one problem with the film is that it has a television feel to it. It did back in '76 when the wife and I went.

I know what you mean as to the tv feel. Absolutely. That being said, I don't know that it takes anything away from the movie today. Other than someone might not give it a chance.

Way off topic, but do ya'll remember a movie called Born to Win? Was a gritty early 70's dramedy with George Segal. Hector Elizondo played the heavy as a drugpin iirc. Only brought this up b/c Karen Black was sexy as a willing carjack victim, and one of Segal's love interests. It's basically a comedic version of Panic in Needle Park. Check it out.

I was gonna mention Salem's Lot and The Gate for this thread but they've already been taken. Those two are both cheesy but scared me when I was younger.
The original Nightmare on Elm Street fucked me up the most as a kid but I wouldn't call that film cheesy. The sequels got pretty ridiculous though.

I love Halloween but missed out on the Fog until several years ago when a friend, who was terrified of it as a kid, showed it to me. I liked it but maybe I need to be younger to be really bothered by it.
I saw John Carpenter recently in Dallas blaring those classic tunes in concert. Good shit imo.

That particular "Zone" has sustained splendidly. The cast is fine and supplies the "horror" thru their vocation. Only the "jack in the box" is shown, but, thru the back lighting, sound effects/music/a military press drum sequence there and cast response is it able to be brought off and so hideously effective.
That episode stays with you.

The segment with Vic Morrow is the most bothersome, IMO, simply because of the fact that Morrow (along with two little kids) was killed during the filming of the segment.

But, it's a great sequence. Truly outlandish. Morrow there is the equivalent of Sutherland in "Stand By Me." Completely unapologetic in their incalculable pathology. In "Stand," only a gun stops "Ace." And only temporarily::: "If you think we're forgetting this, you're wrong. This is big time, baby." In "Zone" even the black man cannot stop "Bill." He goes right thru him. & at the end, you have the Morrow signature, (the swagger) out the beer joint door.
