ITT Technical Institute will cease all of its academic operations, eliminating most of its 8,000 employees effective today, after the government last month banned the for-profit college chain from enrolling new students who receive federal aid.
“The actions of and sanctions from the U.S. Department of Education have forced us to cease operations,” ITT’s parent company, ITT Educational Services Inc., said. “We reached this decision only after having exhausted the exploration of alternatives, including transfer of the schools to a nonprofit or public institution.”
ITT Technical Institute is facing accusations from its accreditor of chronic mismanagement of its finances and using questionable recruiting tactics. The parent company is also under investigation by state and federal authorities. ITT, which as of this spring was the fifth-largest for-profit college chain by revenue, says it runs more than 130 campuses in 38 states. It recently had about 43,000 students nationwide.

Don't they at least train nurses though? That's a pretty viable career unlike being a Starbucks barista with your ITT Tech degree in electronics.

ITT Tech, Kaboink, Ditech, and Career Point. IGIA air freshener machines, and the Nautilus sleep system. Also watching the sneak-preview channel before it scrambled at 8 o'clock, and sneaking out of bed to watch American Pie whenever it came on HBO. Being 6 years old in 2000 was fun.

Maybe medical assistants or nursing aids, but that's all. And tbh, those are easy enough jobs to get without a lick of education if you have no problem wiping ass for minimum wage.

I never understood why anyone would enroll in a for profit private schools..we have them over here in canada too, they usually get you shitty 13 dollar per hour dead end jobs..95% of them are not credited too and they charge more than Public universities..I shake my head when I see their students..im like lol nigga I make more money than you and I dont have my degree yet...I guess not everyone is qualified to get into public schools.
Is it really hard to get into a public university in the US? I know in canada, unless you were super bad in HS..you would be able to get in provided you pass an entrance test.
I took an entrance test and i thought it was some 9th grade shit...but many people surprisingly fail i guess...But seriously no way..

Back in the day, I thought I wanted to do something in the music business so I checked out Art Institute of Dallas. They advertised like a 90% rate of job placement in the industry. It was crazy expensive and my parents weren't going to go for it.
Anyway, not too long after, I talked to someone I knew who went there. His job placement "in the industry" was running a projector at a movie theater.

Right out of high school I almost went to the Art Institute of Chicago. Decided against it and now a friend of mine that went does special effects for movies.

So it's really probably somewhere in the middle and depends on how driven your are and how good you are. The guy I knew wasn't a friend so I didn't know much about him. But I could see him being a dumbass.
But nowadays, you could learn just about everything you wanted to know about music production without having to spend that kind of money. But also I suppose making a career also takes having the right connection.
Special effects for movies seems like something that might be hard to do on your own.

Dang. A LOT of money flowed in and out of that place. As a former TV advertising sales guy, I can tell you that ITT was an "elephant" to bag for local advertising. They spent a ton of money. Everybody fought for their business. And that's just one industry. Quite an economic ripple when a place like this shuts its doors.

These types of schools give an opportunity to make something of oneself. Maybe they should have had stricter enrollment and retention standards, but they were great for those who have talent in the fields they offer.

Can't speak for any other schools but UH doesn't accept ITT credits and I can't imagine we are out of the ordinary in that regard. Or most any of the for profit guys. Our admissions counsellors least favorite people to handle, even worse than helicopter parents whose kids got denied, are people from these schools who got sold the line about how these places were every bit as good as a community college and their courses are accepted by four year schools.

None of this shit matters. Employers couldn't care less where you went to school if you're talking about EET degrees. Some of the best techs I've known were Navy trained and some others had some for profit tech degree. You get good and bad from all of these. I've seen Navy nuke sub guys who couldn't wipe their own asses and I've seen 6 month ACC EET guys run circles around them.
If I was going to go for anything higher than an AS though, I'd avoid the fuck out of these Billy Mays schools.
But honestly, for you folks who work in jobs that don't include punching a time clock or flipping a meat patty... do you know where your management went to school? If you do they either went to some Ivy League school so they tell everyone, or they wear the shirt non-stop. I never had any idea where any of these folks got their degrees. One day I was working with a girl who seemed decent for an entry level engineer, then I find out she's an MIT grad. OK, but she didn't do anything extraordinary because of it. Last I heard she was still a mid level engineer.

I seem to recall that UT didn't accept some rather large college's credits either, I cannot recall if it was Incarnate Word or the one in Austin (can't recall the name, East side of 35 where the Cowboys used to practice). This was many years ago. Could have changed.

They used information asymmetry to take advantage of people, and called it "business".
One of the many ways that unrestrained capitalism sucks. "job creators" my ass.
Capitalism is still better than any other way of organizing economies, but you have to have some regulatory checks like this to make sure it doesn't become rapracious.

They market themselves as places for people who sucked at high school. Basically come to ITT Tech where you work with shit instead of faggot book learnin' like in those uppity universities that you could never afford anyways. And then of course they're 2-3x more expensive than those universities. :lol

I'm surprised she even got a job as a pornstar with an itt tech resume tbh
Why waste money on a technology degree when you could major in queer studies or race relations at Mother of the Molesting Priest university?
ITT is like other online degrees (campuses as well I've noticed), they advertise themselves as something disenfranchised, uneducated "look mom I got out of jail finna see my baby mom and have a real job" types. State colleges and even community colleges are typically for people who decided they could do just as well without a degree and later found out they were wrong. Universities are usually for those who either had parents who are able to afford it or they were groomed for it in school and had parents that gave a shit. Most of these ITT types are lucky to be free from jail, much less having a job or education. That's why they always show Latinos or some "repressed" culture bragging about how Lupe got a job at Time Warner servicing cable boxes, as he sits there in his Ross ensemble and an o'scope untriggered and not even connected to anything as he pretends he knows what the fuck it does.
