I love how Parker being the third best player in '07 is spouted constantly, but this isn't.
If the NBA changed it to playoffs MVP, like they should, Duncan rightfully would have won it and Ginobili would have been second.
Nothing bothers the late to the bandwagon crowd like a shot at Leonard, though Green and Splitter aren't far behind. They think they were the big three and the real big three were just along for the ride.
Unless he wins a championship as the clear best player, Leonard will never receive much credit from most NBA players. Most still have an antiquated view of the game. He doesn't have the personality or average enough points for their taste. Duncan would have suffered the same fate had he not won a handful of rings.

We don't even win 2014 without Kawhi as our clear cut best player. Spurs already out by the first round again.

Well, there's the fact that Kawhi won it while playing against LeBron. Enrique won it by abusing some guy named Boobie.
People in here got it all wrong on Kawhi. Sure he's an MVP candadite and he is a beta in the playoffs, but that's all part of growing up. In 2014 he had to be told to score. In 2016-17 he shows us that he is taking the baton from Tim, I believe.

Kawhi is and will always be a Robin.
Was Scottie Pippen a bench player? Since you said that Kawhi would be a bench player without his defense...At least Terry said he isn't "really" a bench player...
Doesn't matter if Kawhi was
-90 percentile from every spot from the floor
-over 51-45-87 shooting
-one of the only two players in the whole league to make the top 10 of P&R ball handling, Isos & spotting-up PPP
-only Spurs' player to post an ORtg of 120+ since DRob in 1995-96
-the only DPOY with a higher Offensive Box +/- than Kawhi's 2015-16 was...Jordan's 1987
-only player in the top 10 for Off/Def Rtg last season
Like it or not, Kawhi is our franchise player now.
Being a franchise player doesn't mean he will win a ring with the Spurs. Nash, Barkley, Iverson, Ewing...never won a ring, Baylor lost 7 NBA Finals against the Celtics...But they were great, amazing players and "Alpha franchise" guys.

Agree with you about the importance of counting stats for them, but it seems like Kawhi already gets a lot credit...
"He's a monster out there," Warriors center Andrew Bogut added. "He's their main go-to option offensively now and one of the best defenders in the league."
"We always talk about two-way players and how important it is, especially in the modern NBA, where you can't hide a guy at either end," Kerr said. "He's probably the best two-way player in the league now."
"He's tough, ready for any challenge," Iguodala said. "He has that competitiveness about him, which is really good. "You don't see that as much in new-age players. They're more concerned with their image or anything else surrounding the game. He's just all about playing ball, doesn't really care what's going on outside."
"Kawhi Leonard's got to be one of the top two, top three players in the league at both ends" Zach Randolph said "That kid is the silent assasin"
Clippers players, Paul, Griffins, JJ, they had nothing but kind words to say about Kawhi, the same with Wade, Butler...
I wouldn't say that Terry's borderline insanity is representative of the opinion of most current NBA players.

Something I just saw on another board. What's your response kawhi stans?
"Kawhi is a colossal choker who has done nothing special whatsoever as a clear 1st option. One of the weakest finals MVP in history too.
2015:
Series vs Clippers tied 2-2, best of 3 to determine winner...Kawhi puts up 14 ppg on 30% FG in those 3 games...12.5 ppg on 29% FG in games 6 & 7, Spurs drop both and lose the series.
2016:
Against OKC...Game 1 blowout win...won't count it against him. But in games 2-6, he shot 8-22 FG in 4th quarters...36% FG, and just 1.6 baskets per 4th quarter. And it only gets worse the later in the quarter you go, the more critical the moment. 3 total field goals in the last 5 minutes of games 2-6 on 30% FG, and just ONE basket total in the last 2 minutes of games 2-6, 1-5 FG.
If literally any other top 10 player choked like he did they'd get absolutely shredded. But because it's Kawhi no one mentions it. Because something something RPM, +/- numbers."
YGWHI
09-25-2016, 03:26 AM
and just ONE basket total in the last 2 minutes of games 2-6, 1-5 FG
Oh well, we should trade Kawhi for the unanimous MVP who scored a lot in the last minutes of the Finals, also, he made Kyrie life so hard...
Or trade him for Harden who is a true superstar according to Jason Terry...

Curry has been really clutch plenty of times. You have to use the few times he was not (and injured)

The point from the post I quoted is that Kawhi choked EVERY TIMES it mattered when he was the clear 1st option
"But but he isn't clutch :cry :cry "
724286078769856512
Of course, Kawhi's playoffs performances had nothing to do with him having only 1 season as the 1st option -I wouldn't say that he was the clear 1st option in 2015 since Parker took more shots and had higher USG%- and Curry had 5 seasons being the guy...

Obviously, they wouldn't have won in '14 without Leonard, but they didn't win because of him and he wasn't the best player on the team.
He was in '15 and '16, they failed and as the best player, he wears some of that, since it's not like they had no chance in either case no matter what he did.
He has the greatest gig in the league: Win and it's all him and Pop; lose and it's "the old guys" fault.
He's the Garnett of this era: He can be the best all around player on a championship team, but he can't be the standalone offensive centerpiece.
Well, there's the fact that Kawhi won it while playing against LeBron. Enrique won it by abusing some guy named Boobie.
Leonard also won it while having virtually no creative offensive responsibility and not having a defense geared to stop him.

It's the nature if being a star to get criticized. Even Lebron, Durant, Westbrook got critics, in Lebrons case b4 he rang. His 2011 finals performance haunted him. Takes guts, growth and continued improvement to climb that hall. Heh Durant hasn't yet. Just his scoring is what he's hung his name on. He's choked a whole lot and deferred to Russ and,Russ has his own bad decision making to blame for his blunders and Harden is not in the level if these dudes. He is undeniably a gifted offensive player but is headed down a Carmelo Anthony path as a scorer that's not enough to get to the end all of the game.
I take my chances with Kiwi. He's 25 and a monster already. There's no telling what he's capable of in the next few seasons if healthy.

Dude has benefited so much from the Splash Bros nickname which paired him with Curry early on in their careers. Curry has left him in the dust the past couple of years, yet people act like Thompson has ascended into superstardom alongside him. In reality he's just the most elite 3 & D player.
Barkley actually called him the best all-around player yesterday bc 'he has a better offensive game than Kawhi'. :lol
He knows basketball and has a point
Mitten face and Kiwi are players that can go offf but would never lead a team to a successful playoffs.
A prime Damon Stoudemire or Stevie Franchise come to mind
32,625 posts and still haven't had one decent take.
Best player on the floor last night :lmao..
Still can't fathom how Kawhi and Klay are still being brought up in the same breath..:lol
Don't worry, I'm confident that Harden will put up numbers better than Kawhi's while leading his team to a 20+ victory in Oakland against GSW this year.

I see what's going on in the NBA today. No matter how good you are or what do you ON THE FUCKING COURT, if you aren't on twitter, in rap videos, screaming and hitting your chest after ever dunk, making hand movements after ever 3, play selfish, or dressing like a 13 year old girl for attention before the games, nothing matters. You'll never be a "top player". Let's not forget, people today still consider Duncan better than Kobe.

Yeah that discussion needs to be over. Klay isn't capable of handling the responsibilities that Kawhi is assigned.
Well, as much as there is no comparison between Kawhi and Thompson...Kawhi is way better, I still think this statement by Terry is lame as it pertains to Thompson. Thompson gets a raw deal because he's willing to take a lesser role for the good of the team, but the guy can fill it up and guard 1s and 2s as good as any shooting guard in the league. He's not as talented a scorer as Harden in terms of all around ability, but he could be Harden if he played in Houston and was allowed to shoot at will. Maybe he can't play make as good as Harden, but he can do it well enough and he certain can play defense better than Harden. So basically, the Jet is way off even for Thompson. I mean Kawhi is a superstar and easily top 3 in the league and making a push to separate himself as top 2.

Gambit, seriously, do you ever think about anything besides Parker?
He's right about Klaynus. Not right about Kawhi though, obviously.
Seriously can we stop putting Klanus in the same stratosphere as the great Kawhi Leonard? It was stupid then and even moreso now.

Exactly! Kawhi scored 42 points in a game! Thompson couldn't even do that in one quarter! He only scored 37!

You're right.
But those guys also hate Manu, Mills, and basically any other backcourt player who's made significant contributions to the team.
