My new hypothesis is that Trump surrogates will pivot after the VP debate, no matter who "wins" the debate itself, and argue that a vote for Trump can be justified as a vote for Pence. They might even go so far as to intimate that Trump may not serve out a full term and that Pence is the real candidate here.

Play the hand your dealt, they say.

Pence is probably the real candidate because Trump is too lazy to be president. He already offered Kasich control of foreign and domestic policy if he took up the VP offer. Trump is going to be like W first term when he was always busy clearing brush while letting Cheney play president.

Agreed on that but at the same time Pence clarified it and said Russia was a small bully that was somewhat succeeding in expanding their dominance in the world as the reason why he said Putin was a better leader. I thought that was his only decent moment in the whole debate but it was a strong one. Kaine could have easily hit him back on Russia's shit economy and Trump stupidly believing Putin's approval poll numbers :lol but he failed big time in that regard.

PENCE OPENS V.P. DEBATE BY BEGGING PRIVATE SECTOR TO HIRE HIM

FARMVILLE, VIRGINIA — The Republican Vice-Presidential nominee, Mike Pence, stunned a national television audience on Tuesday night by using his opening statement in the Vice-Presidential debate to beg the nation’s private sector for a job.

Shortly after the moderator, Elaine Quijano, told Pence that he had two minutes to make his statement, the Indiana governor looked directly into the camera and said,

“I’m going to get right down to it. If you run a company and you’re watching this right now, I beg you from the bottom of my heart to consider hiring me. I need a job and I need it bad.”
Pence urged employers to consider his many qualifications and to

ignore his role in the 2016 Republican campaign. “As God is my witness, I take no responsibility for this dumpster fire,” he said.
Stressing the urgency of his situation, Pence said that his political career was in ruins and pleaded with employers to visit his LinkedIn profile.

As the moderator warned Pence that his time was up, he shouted,

“I can start Wednesday, November 9th!”

before the camera abruptly cut away.

According to published reports, no employers expressed immediate interest in hiring Pence.

I didn't watch, but having listened to the professionals discuss it this morning on both Fox and CNN it seems like most of the ones breathlessly posting in here last night that Kaine was destroying Pence were watching an entirely different debate. It was virtually unanimous that Kaine did an acceptable job of regurgitating the campaigns exaggerated talking points but it was more of a sacrifice fly ball since Pence came off more measured and professional. apparently Kaine's barrage of constant interruptions hurt him. Again, I didn't watch it just giving a summary of the pros opinions.

Mike Pence Is a Coward and an Extremist

He’s the perfect face of the GOP.

his debate performance on Tuesday night will veer between dull obfuscation and awkward evasion of an extremist policy background that he is too craven to openly defend.

Start with Pence’s passionate anti-LGBTQ beliefs, which led him to thrust his state into a national debate over gay rights in 2015.

That March, Pence signed a “religious freedom” law designed to let businesses discriminate (http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2015/03/30/gov_mike_pence_s_characterization_of_indiana_s_new _religion_law_is_wrong.html) against LGBTQ customers, then repeatedly lied about its purpose (http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2015/03/31/mike_pence_is_either_lying_or_deluded_about_indian a_s_religious_freedom.html) on national television.

Eventually, he caved (http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2016/07/14/vacuous_anti_gay_coward_mike_pence_is_a_perfect_vp _pick_for_trump.html) and signed a legislative “fix” (http://www.indystar.com/story/news/politics/2015/04/01/indiana-rfra-deal-sets-limited-protections-for-lgbt/70766920/) to prevent the law from facilitating discrimination, a tacit concession of its original intention.

his lengthy history (http://time.com/4406337/mike-pence-gay-rights-lgbt-religious-freedom/) of anti-LGBTQ advocacy proves he’s one of American politics’ most militant culture warriors.

As a congressman, Pence supported a constitutional amendment that would’ve banned same-sex marriage across the country, calling gay unions (https://books.google.com/books?id=W6gziQydtBwC&pg=PA718&lpg=PA718&dq=societal+collapse+was+always+brought+about+foll owing+an+advent+of+the+deterioration+of+marriage+a nd+family+pence&source=bl&ots=T_-aKwIV1c&sig=ojHblSb-xuoqhMEqMEtdfpK1G9w&hl=en&sa) a “deterioration of marriage and family” and a sign of “societal collapse.”

In 2010, he voted against the repeal of “don’t ask, don’t tell,” claiming (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/1012/02/jkusa.01.html) that allowing gays to serve openly in the military was tantamount to “social experimentation.”

And he has vigorously opposed a federal law that would prohibit anti-gay employment discrimination, calling the (http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2011/02/the-tea-partys-religious-inspiration/71679/) measure a “war on freedom and religion in the workplace.”

In 2000, during his first successful run for Congress, Pence declared (https://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/here-is-mike-pences-questionable-2000-proposal-on-hivaids-fu?utm_term=.jo9ewaerE#.iuN2EG2JQ) that federal funds meant to treat and prevent HIV/AIDS were actually “being given to organizations that celebrate and encourage the types of behaviors that facilitate the spreading of the HIV virus.”

(Presumably, Pence was referencing groups that treated HIV/AIDS patients without condemning homosexuality.) Instead of funding HIV/AIDS treatments, Pence wrote, the federal government should redirect its resources to gay conversion “therapy” programs.

(The mere fact that Pence supported horrific, abusive conversion therapy (http://www.slate.com/articles/news_and_politics/jurisprudence/2015/02/new_jersey_gay_conversion_therapy_case_blocked_exp ert_testimony_could_be.html)—and has not yet disclaimed that support—should really be its own scandal.)

And in the 1990s, Pence served as president of a conservative think tank that published a bizarre screed against gays in the military—a polemic that included extensive descriptions of graphic gay sex acts (http://www.slate.com/blogs/outward/2016/09/01/mike_pence_gay_sex_essay_ronald_d_ray_on_homosexua ls_in_the_military.html). (Certain details, including one involving light bulbs, defy logic and suggest a great amount of poetic license.)

Pence’s anti-LGBTQ activism, however, is really only the tip of his uniquely berserk iceberg.

Did you hear about the time that, as governor, he tried to create a Soviet-style state-run news agency (http://mediamatters.org/blog/2015/01/27/indiana-editors-we-wont-use-governors-troubling/202282)?

Or when he resisted (http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2015/04/when-an-hiv-crisis-trumps-ideology-on-drug-policy/391715/) a needle exchange program, thereby exacerbating (http://www.politico.com/story/2016/08/under-pences-leadership-response-to-heroin-epidemic-criticized-as-ineffective-226759) his state’s escalating HIV crisis (http://www.npr.org/sections/health-shots/2016/03/31/469525114/inside-a-small-brick-house-at-the-heart-of-indianas-opioid-crisis)?

What about the time he helped to dismantle Indiana’s extraordinarily effective energy efficiency program (http://midwestenergynews.com/2015/06/26/before-being-dismantled-indianas-efficiency-program-was-effective-2/), for no apparent reason other than to appease his donors (http://www.journalgazette.net/news/local/indiana/Pence-defies-EPA--pleasing-donors-8715563) in the coal industry?

Should we talk about Pence slashing taxes (http://www.rollcall.com/news/policy/pences-tax-cutting-record-help-trump) for the extremely wealthy and battling (http://www.nwitimes.com/news/local/govt-and-politics/indiana-unlikely-to-boost-minimum-wage-despite-widespread-support/article_a5cf1ebf-43aa-599d-9516-d1de423ea80b.html) a minimum wage increase while preventing local governments (http://prospect.org/article/pence-seals-trump-anti-worker-ticket) from implementing paid sick or family leave?

Or his dozens of votes (http://scorecard.lcv.org/moc/mike-pence) in Congress against bills designed to protect endangered species, clean air, and safe drinking water?

Naturally, Pence denies the existence (https://insideclimatenews.org/news/15072016/donald-trump-mike-pence-vp-conservative-fossil-fuel-industry-koch-brothers) of climate change; he also rejects evolution (http://www.rightwingwatch.org/content/flashback-mike-pence-delivers-entire-speech-denying-evolution) and supports the teaching of creationism (http://www.slate.com/blogs/bad_astronomy/2016/08/17/trump_s_vice_presidential_pick_mike_pence_is_a_cre ationist.html) in public schools.

The fact that these positions haven’t gotten more attention—that Pence is still seen as the more rational and benevolent man on the ticket—is an illustration of how anyone can seem competent when compared with Donald Trump.

Kaine hit every single bad thing Trump has said, got all his points in, interrupted a lot and seemed to bring every topic (even foreign policy) back to Trump's taxes. Didn't say that much on what (good) Hillary would do - more of a Trump bashing.

Pence was measured, (sometimes too) deliberate and surprisingly talked a lot on foreign policy especially relating to Hillary/Obama. I felt that even though he answered the faith question with his pro-life/anti-abortion stance - that it (that topic) doesn't do him any favors with a general election audience. Kaine's capital punishment answer is much less emotional/controversial.

During the whole debate, all I was thinking is why couldn't the choice for presidency have been between these 2 :-) Someone needs to confiscate Trump's cel phone until the election is over and stop him from tweeting. He should also stop giving interviews because the media twists everything he says (like the veteran/PTSD comment).

How sincere do you think Pence and Kaine are about truly helping U.S. citizens?
Scale 1-10 with 10 being complete love for their fellow man, would do anything they could. Very self sacrificing.
1 being typical POS politician.

0 = Pence
3 = Kaine

Personally, what I think will happen--& I realize it might be far-fetched--is that Trump, when he loses, will say that he conducted his campaign in a way that endured Clinton gets the Presidency. Then he'll go & seek refuge/asylum in some other country (China? Russia? LOL). I don't think he'd be sincere in saying that, I just think he's that fucked up/narcissistic/sociopathic as an actual person that he'll say & do anything not to be viewed as a failure.

I'll give you a quick summary, and yes Kaine did interrupt a couple of times. Love how cuckservatives think that's a bad thing and then turn a blind eye when Trump does it.

1) Kaine brought up a bunch actual Trump quotes
2) Pence kept saying they were false :lol
3) Trump was live tweeting, just quoting a bunch of egg twitters
4) Pence told Kaine "you whipped out that Mexican thing again". Pause
5) Pence kept crying about how Clinton keeps running an insult campaign :cry

1. Keep Pence from skewering Hillary, which he did by interrupting frequently
2. Keep the conversation on Trump and force Pence to choose between agreeing with or denying Trump's positions - Pence chose to deny.

As a result, you now have material for some very effective attack ads on Pence being unable to justify Trump's crazy positions. Example:

Media Debunk Pence’s Smear Of Clinton’s Reproductive Rights Positions

In The Vice Presidential Debate, Pence Revived An Anti-Choice Myth To Attack Clinton’s Support For Reproductive Rights

While Pence falsely alleged that Clinton’s position on abortion was extreme, Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Kaine pointed out that Clinton “support[s] the constitutional right of American women to consult their own conscience and make their own decision about pregnancy.”

During The Debate, Pence Inaccurately Alleged Clinton Supports “Partial Birth Abortion.” During the October 4 vice presidential debate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence attacked Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s reproductive rights positions, trying to characterize her as extreme by alleging that she supports so-called “partial birth abortion.”

As Rolling Stone reported, “‘partial birth’ isn’t actually a thing -- it’s a term made up by [anti-choice] activists to make abortion seem gruesome.”

In reality, as The Atlantic noted, Clinton is on record explaining that she favors “a late pregnancy regulation that would have exceptions for the life and health of the mother.” [Rolling Stone, 10/5/16 (http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/features/mike-pences-casual-cruelty-on-abortion-at-the-vp-debate-w443488);The Atlantic, 10/5/16 (http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/10/abortion-is-a-matter-of-morality-for-tim-kaine-and-mike-pence/502922/)]

Donald Trump Tries To Take Credit For “Winning” A VP Debate That He Wasn’t In

Despite the fact that he wasn't on the stage, Donald Trump is taking credit for winning the vice presidential debate.

Trump said,

“How many of you watched the vice presidential debate last night? Mike Pence did an incredible job, and

I’m getting a lot of credit because that’s really my first so-called choice.”

Pence wasn’t Trump’s first choice.

Mike Pence wasn’t even Trump’s third choice.

It appears that Trump’s first choice may have been Ohio Gov. John Kasich

followed by Chris Christie, and

Newt Gingrich.

Pence only got to be on the ticket because the Republican Party made Trump put him on the ticket.

I'M not, but there is still an uncomfortable amount of undecideds who are taking their cues from coverage of who "won" these debates, and it's always disconcerting when that coverage is focused around whether someone didn't strike the right balance of interruption, sniffled too much, said something that sounded dirty, etc.

I also realize this has been going on for decades and is only one of about 20,000 things that are wrong with elections in America.

Assuming, of course, the major political parties have nominated candidates who are capable of doing that.

That, and Americans "just don't have time for nuance" any more. There are iPhones to look at and there's Netflixing to do.

Maybe I'm just cynical -- probably that -- but engaging in actual policy discussion that isn't anything more than black/white, good/bad, liberal/conservative just isn't something that the electorate tolerates well. The nuance is absolutely vital to governance, and it's particularly important to finding compromise, but we've made the bulk of the electorate into such partisans that they see any nuance in major policy positions (and, by extension, any compromise by their preferred candidates) as intolerable capitulation to the opposing forces of evil.

Perhaps it's always been that way and I've just been too naive to see it so clearly, but I really do think we've reached a point that nuance and moderation make a candidate unelectable rather than smart.
