View Full Version : Suns: High-Five stats

Silver&Black

Thread please tell me the local media is crushing the Suns for this one.

“We have a high-five stat,” coach Earl Watson said earlier this week (http://www.nba.com/suns/blog/suns-tracking-high-fives-measure-team-camaraderie). “I’m being honest with you. This is true. So we want to keep track of how many high-fives we get per game to each other.”

On the surface it seems a little crazy to track high-fives, but it kind of makes sense. Having teammates that constantly support one another should help camaraderie and team chemistry. But at the end of the day, this is a league that cares about wins, so will this help lead to dubs?

Possibly.

You've got to be fucking kidding me...

They're off on a fairy tale with this idiot coach. He's 1/2 talked Knight into being the "6th starter," or, "the best 6th man in NBA history." Initially Knight refused to be interviewed, then the next day he signed off on it, more, or, less.

They're starting Dudley at PF. & Bledsoe has turned over a 7th new leaf. He invited everyone out to Los Angeles on his dime and they had a wiener roast right on the beach & bonded. Now? He's the greatest leader since Patton.

The local Media is gung ho and pimping it all 100%. "It doesn't matter that they don't get a lot of wins, just have a plan is all I ask. And don't ask to be traded before Halloween."

You picked a great team to root against. These fuckers will never win shit.

If I had any kind of power in the Suns organization and someone came up to me and said, "Hey &. We're thinking bout keeping track of how many High-Fives we give each other during the year. Whatcha think?"

His ass would be fired on the spot. And if I had my pistol on me...he would be lucky if he walked away without getting shot. For Christ's sake. High-Five stats......I've heard it all now.

All this is is a clever little way to masquerade forced chemistry as team fun, so when the losing occurs, the team still sells as likeable and fun loving.

With the Cards and Diamondbacks taking a shit on expectations, Sarver is positioning these young and dum but full of fun Suns as the tribute to a good time.

See them shoot threes!
See them dunk!
See them high-five them mother fuckers!

It's another public relations ploy to distract from product.

When what's funny is if he just got rid of the toxic elements, he might actually have that organic "Run and Fun" and might actually build to something.

Instead it's Barbosa! Remember him from the fun days?
Instead it's Dudley! Look at his funny antics and tweets! #Fun #Leader
Instead it's High Fives and Fun Vibes!

Awesome!

They can't break their circle. No actual vision. Just accumulation and flinging of shit to see if anything sticks. They can't get out of their own way to take the formation of a team seriously.

Three years ago they were at least building. It didn't work. So they abandoned it and now they are worse for it. Never should have stopped their process.

I felt like they were doing ok until the situation with the Morris brothers developed. After that they kind of went the opposite way.

I mean, when McD first took over, he traded all value for assets, drafted, got younger, and prioritized development. Except the Suns were infinitely better than expected.

So, immediately, priority because get better faster not get better correctly.

So he lets Frye walk, signs Tucker and Thomas. Drafts Warren and Ennis, but immediately devalues youngster development. Goodwin doesn't see the floor, Len only sometimes does, and Warren a bit in between injuries. So after this season doesn't go well, what does McD and Sarver do? Get both young, With Booker, and older with Chandler, and then ki ally kick the hornets nest, trading one of but not both Morrii.

Even with Booker the development wasn't expedited until it was forced. Even in a terrible season.

They have a future All-Star in Booker, and God only knows what in Len, Goodwin, Warren, and now add Chriss and Bender.

So what do they do? Bring in Barbosa, Dudley, keep Bledsoe, Knight, Tucker and Chandler.

Makes a ton of sense. Right?

High fives are the only symbol of positivity fans can see.

Might as well highlight that shit!

Or, trade everyone older than 26 and play the youth.

Figure out the shit.

But McDs job now hangs in the balance.

So we will be bad, but not suck. Likely get a 5-10 range pick. But in a very top-heavy draft, it would be nice to be in play for Josh Jackson or Jayson Tatum.

Sarver's early success was completely based on Colangelo hold-overs. Now that its 100% his team, his GM, his coaches, his players this is just the new status quo. This is what a Sarver owned team looks like.

From 1988 (when I started watching) to 2010 they missed the playoffs three times.

They will miss it this season for the 6th year in a row.

They are selling hard two 19 year old rookies who will probably be lucky to be in the league in five years.

Oh well. Not like anyone has a chance against Golden State anyway.

not many young guys Im taking over Booker ... not even simmons now that he already has a broken foot nor wiggins.
If he can stay healthy he projects as a legit star and that already places the suns on the right path despite some dumb moves and puzzling decisions.

Wiggins upside is higher because of elite athleticism.

But Booker is perfect modern wing, is basically 20, already holds immense respect from stars around the league, works his ass off, and combines all this with very solid physical and athletic Measurables, and specifically, almost elite agility.

Shore up that handle, prioritize defensive agility, and Booker is probably a top-5 prospect in the game. It's pretty incredible so many teams past on him.

I'm actually on record as saying he would be top-5 player in the draft, with me liking on Towns, KP better and Turner about similar.

But it took literally injury to every backcourt teammate to get him the minutes he deserved.

Preach it SON!

I'd trade every one of Bledsoe, Knight, Tucker, Chandler this year. They are poor examples and have toxic attitudes. They won't like learning or the losing that follows. They won't be a part of the solution. They are simply a different era. Get whatever you can. But cut bait. Now.

Start:

PG-Ulis: he's not a long term solution, but his a team guy, is used to being a facilitator for talent while PG at Kentucky, has been successful in that role, and is friends with Booker.
SG-Booker: nothing to say. He's the future. Suns rise or set on him.
SF-Warren: incredible offensive talent, who might have a bit of Draymond in him. He's an downhill scorer, ball-in-his-hands type, but he moves well without the ball.
PF-Dudley: calming, veteran presence who isn't worried about anything but helping. He's a solid floor spacer, good passer, solid defender who plays hard and is vocal.
C-Len: figure out what you have... Is he a foundation? Can he join Booker as a base toward future? Is he a pillar? Someone who is worth building around? Is he even worth keeping? Figure it out!

Then bring off bench:

CG-Goodwin: see Len, as it's similar, though ceiling is a 6th man, not starter.
CG-Barbosa: see Dudley, but guard
F-Chriss: give him 20 minutes. Give him touches. Develop quick.
PF-Bender: give him 20 minutes. Give him the ball. Let him run PnR with Booker.

That's my rotation, with maybe one more quality veteran added at Wing.

Figure the shit out. Know soon so the cycle stops.

JMarkJohns
10-07-2016, 05:42 PM
Do that, suck, get a chance at uber prospect Josh Jackson or taller Klay Thompson, Jayson Tatum, and have a legitimate roster with known pieces in developing roles, who might not be good, but might actually generate high fives, not just on court, but also in the stands as they get better and grow moving forward.

The process isn't flawed. It's just seldom followed properly.

I'd actually throw the GM and Head Coach at Calipari once the moves are done. Have a vision.

Maybe you never go full Kentucky. But they are a roster ideal for the dribble-drive/kick offense. And Cal isn't going to over coach. He's not D'Antoni who'll just do shit while Nash runs the show. He create a positive atmosphere, and while he's certainly not the greatest tactician, bring him in, build a roster, and throw a shit ton of money at Davis in a few years.
