View Full Version : Anyone else impressed by the Falcons?

They're clearly a Top 5 NFL offense, their defense is actually decent enough this year, and their strength of victory is incredible already... thus far they own the sole loss of two fellow 4-1 teams with a painful opening day division loss against the lowly Bucs... it's not like last year where they were beating cupcakes early on while the schedule caught up with them.

... and it's only going to shoot up more once the Panthers get good again and eventually dink and dunk their way into an 11 win season... their schedule is otherwise too easy so it's hard to see Carolina not being a double digit win team. I think the North, South, and East will each have two strong teams including a wild card contender (10-11 wins) while one will obviously be left out.

Falcons SHOULD be a playoff team, if it comes down to second and third tiebreakers between conference teams at say, 10-6, 11-5 to claim a playoff berth... the Falcons should almost assuredly get in on strength of victory, but we have a lot of football to play.

Still, I'm very impressed... who the hell just strolls up the 5,280 foot ladder into Pothead City and grabs a relatively easy win? Julio is amazing, and Ryan's decision making has been excellent thus far.

In 2015 the Falcons did the same thing actually even better. They were 6-1 after seven games. Then.....lost the next six.

So...???????

One of the hardest "spots" in football is back to back on the road, especially vs a team coming off a bye week which the Seahawks are. They won't be facing a second string QB this Sunday, either.

Well I'll be damn, who is the worst team in the NFL coming off a bye, yep, Seahawks at 9-20.

The Eagles are the best at 22-6, (Denver 22-7)

Those stats are mostly taken from previous generations of players and mean zilch my friend.

The Browns and Lions have been around how long? TONS...of different players, so how come neither franchise has ever played in a Superbowl? How come the Niners, Steelers, Pats and Cowboys have won how many SB's as a group? And there were TONS of different players involved.

Sorry my friend but yes "franchises" do have tendancies and trends. Some teams can't win on the road and it doesn't matter who is on the team, some are great at home and have been for ages.

The Chargers have been around as long as the Raiders, so why do the Raiders have three SB wins and the Chargers none? TONS...of different Chargers over the years.

The Packers won with Bart Starr, Bret Favre and Aaron Rodgers, a lot of different players involved. The Bears have been around since day one of the NFL, they only have...one...SB win.

The Browns have lost 10 season openers the last 10 seasons, TONS of different players. The Pats are 9-1 in season openers the last 10 years.

In the month of December since 1990 the Pats 74-34, the best in the NFL, Browns 17-56....need I go on?

Losing to an established perennial SB contender in the hardest road venue to play in in the world won't mark a "collapse"...

But if you lose the following home game to the shit ass Chargers then yeah, you're in trouble... but you won't.

How many home wins by Seattle have been strictly due to the referees? :lol

Ya don't win over 11 games the last four seasons and are at 4-1 this seasons because of the refs.

Now the Seahawks are 9-21 ATS off a bye week. They suck in this "spot".

I already said earlier last week that the Falcons would lose in Seattle... didn't even think they would be as competitive as they were.

If the refs had called the game fairly the Falcons would have a great chance to be 5-1 because where Julio was would have put them well in FG range.

Okay, Falcons blew a bad one today against a bad team at home. No excuse for this bad loss, but the playcalling was miserable, not just on that 4th down, but throughout the 2nd half. No excuse to blow a 17 point lead at home.

I still think they're going to win the division, get the 4th seed, and win about 10-11 games. Have you seen how fucking easy their schedule is from here on out?

Yeah this division is up for grab. I'm not buying the Atlanta hype either even after the Packers choke job today. Falcons defense has been shitty all season and it's a matter of time when their offense slows down. I'm hoping the Bucs can get over their own choke job today and play well at home this Thursday night and beat that soft ass team.

I think it's too late for Carolina to make a comeback and the playoffs. The division is bad but you just have too many losses now. And still have to go to Seattle, Washington, Oakland, etc.

They're good. Still, only have a one game lead over the Saints in the loss column and just 2 games over the Panthers who are healthy. But the Falcons have a mild schedule. I think they're 10-5/9-6 by week 17.

Nah I think the Saints will make a run. Defense has improved and now they're getting big starters back. Plus the schedule is softening. Toss up games will be Broncos, at Panthers, and at Cards before they get to the season finale at Atlanta. Very possible the Saints could be 9-6 going into that game and I will still take Brees over Matt Ryan in a big game.

I would take Brees over Ryan. But not sure if I'd take the WR/RB over what the Falcons have.

To be just 3-4 with 4 home games, hmmm? Now they have 5 road games left, not good. That Cards game the second of a double road. They haven't won both Carolina games since 2011. I'd be surprised to see a 9-6.

Two of the road games are at San Fran tomorrow and at Tampa which should be wins. The Carolina and the Cards games will be tough. So if they split these 4 road games and win the remaining home games, they will be 9-6 going into the season finale at Atlanta. That's very doable especially as they get healthier on defense.

It's not entirely impossible, but too many question marks with the running game and defense though both are showing signs of improvement with an unstoppable passing game. However, I think they can be 9-6 by the season finale.

I think 10-6 will be good enough, though the Falcons schedule lends them a solid chance at being 11-5 especially if they win the season finale against the Saints.

But Delvin Breaux and first round pick Sheldon Rankins are back today since missing basically the entire season.
