http://www.chattsportsnet.com/sports-today/nba/nba-rumors-san-antonio-spurs-super-team-russell-westbrook-demarcus-cousins/17529/

According to YIBADA, this scenario could happen in 2018. Westbrook just signed an extension with Oklahoma City Thunder but he has an opt-out clause. Cousins’ contract, on the other hand, will expire in 2018 but his spot in the Sacramento Kings’ roster remains uncertain.

The Kings have not reached the playoffs in Cousins’ era. A chase for championship title trumps loyalty in the NBA. He could choose to take a pay cut and join a contender just like what Kevin Durant did when he joined the Warriors.

laughable take but whatever we need something to laugh at before we get curbstomped by the Warriors next Tuesday

The "rumor" comes from one guy asking another guy what he thinks about the chances of Cousins or Westbrook joining the Spurs:

from http://www.hoopsrumors.com/2016/10/weekly-mailbag-10316-10916.html (which is actually a decent rumor aggregating site without those bullshit clickbait articles)

Depending on Russell Westbrook (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/w/westbru01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-)‘s player option decision, who out of Russ and DeMarcus Cousins (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/c/couside01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) will the Spurs likely target in 2018 ? My thinking is Russ as Tony Parker (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/p/parketo01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) is on the home stretch of his career, but if Boogie is there you have to take a long look at his talents. — Chris Hawkins

Parker will be 36 in the summer of 2018 and will be a free agent himself. He may decide to retire then, or if he returns to the Spurs it will be in a reduced role. Backup Patty Mills (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/millspa02.html) is headed for free agency next summer, so unless rookie Dejounte Murray (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/m/murrade01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-) makes a huge leap, San Antonio will definitely be in the market for a point guard. And who better than Westbrook, who will have two more seasons to judge whether the Thunder can remain title contenders without Kevin Durant (http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/d/duranke01.html?utm_campaign=Linker&utm_source=direct&utm_medium=linker-). Cousins seems like a shaky fit with a tough coach like Gregg Popovich, and it seems likely that the Kings will trade him before he reaches free agency. If you’re going to bet on either of those players one day joining the Spurs, put your money on Westbrook.

It is rather obvious that Spurs are looking at the 2018 free agency, rather than the 2017 one. I am not sure if this is their end game. Heck there has been some rumours involving Paul and the 2017.

But Spurs could go down the smaller contract next season. Remember those 8-12 mil contracts are not too bad these days. Some unrestricted names we could look at and still have 30mil to splash in 2018 are: Gallinari, Rudy Gay, Bogut, Gibson, Redick, Splitter, Teague - then there are a bunch of restricted players out there as well.

Westbrook will turn 30 at the beginning of that season. No thanks.

The Spurs can't deal with LMA and people think that Cousins would be a good option...Good luck with that.

Maybe without Pop, because Westbrook and Cousins are two of the most undisiplined stars in the NBA.

The Kings haven't even been able to make the playoffs once in the Cousins' Era. That's funny. Back in the day, all it took to form a super-team was Tim Duncan.

:stirpot:

This isn't so impossible, tbh. Add some picks and cash to make it sweeter for the Kings. We all know Cousins getting the hell out of Sacramento is just a matter of time. What better for them than getting another all-star bigman + picks + cash + maybe some Spurs prospects?

What if he is another Rasheed Wallace, who's just stucked on a bad situation?

Its that Cousins is a championship caliber 1A complement to Kawhi. Aldridge isnt.

Because (from what is reported) LMA has problems with being the number 2 guy. Cousins only has problems with not winning.

If the Spurs shipped LMA to Cow Town for a cancer, it would be the end of high quality FA agents in SA.

This.

BUT all this thread took an unexpected turn after a fashion shooting backstage...

It seems like OP's right, guys.
Westbrook is on GQ cover this month and reliable sources said that Kawhi was recruiting him and Boogie in the photo session

Also, the same reliable sources say that LMA is demanding his own shooting session on GQ after he read this line...Kawhi 'was already their best player, now he becomes the face of their franchise'

Sheed was a headcase but he was also always a winner with positive impacts on the floor. No real comparison.

Because he always played on stacked teams.

Spurs wouldn't want Cousins honestly. . . . Unless he came for a super cheap FA deal which he wouldn't.

damn, how stupid are you?

I think that question is easily reversed back to you. He's an ineffcient ballstopping chucker who will be 30 before too long. In addition, he's had like 3 surgeries on that one knee. Think: Dwayne Wade. To me, that doesn't scream sign him to a huge $30M per year deal.

Westbrook ain't gonna age pretty, his game is 100% about athleticism. Why would anyone want to pay max money for a guy like that on the wrong side of 30?
