Just FYI since Barnes apparently had a few fans on this board.

Couldn't the Spurs have invited him to camp?

I don't think his contract is guaranteed with them. It looks like he was just signed to their training camp roster.

For Barnes' fans, Knicks just waive him.
He is again available (if he clears waivers)

He spent quite a bit of time with the Spurs this summer.

Actually, NOT. He was worked out, but never signed. They were thinking about it.

Wasn't he here working out for like a week? It's all relative, but that qualifies as "quite a bit of time" to me (as far as workouts go)...

Hopefully the Spurs pick him up but he probably won't clear waivers.

5.05. Waiver Preferences.
a) In the event that more than one (1) Member shall have claimed the rights to a Player placed on waivers, the claiming Member with the lowest team standing at the time the waiver was requested shall be entitled to acquire the rights to such Player. If the request for waiver shall occur after the last day of the Season and before 11:59 p.m. eastern time on the following November 30, the standings at the close of the previous Season shall govern.
Only Detroit is behind us.
If Spurs and another team (except Pistons) claims Barnes from Waivers, The other team will get him.

Someone like Atlanta, Memphis, or prob Toronto or even Dallas.
Spurs prob have no shot at him.

Matt is a gutsy player and would be a good addition.
However, Dec 15th date is coming up when players signed during the summer can be traded.

Where did I say he signed??? I said he spent quite a bit of time WITH the Spurs over the summer. I believe he was here at least a couple of weeks.

Non je vie en France. (je sais c'est pas super original :spin )
I'm not sure a team will claim Barnes from Waivers :
- He has a foot injury (I don't know how serious it is).
- Barnes is a small forward, few teams needs one (SF is not the hardest post to fill on a team) and you have some quality SF avaible (Lynch, Theron Smith, Erik Daniels...)

This is the third time I've seen this thread title and thought "Didn't they just waive him?"
I need a drink. Or a nap.

Not listed on any of the usual sites. Don't know how they handle the start times for weekend waivings -- probably safe to wait until close of business tomorrow.
