Kawhi doing to many pump fakes and picking up his dribble way too much. Awful game.
He looked gassed to me, all his shots were short & he was playing lazy defense. That might be why Pop benched him very early in the game.

This is a bad, bad loss tonight. This was straight up ugly. Does it mean anything in the long run? No, it means just as much as a blow out win over GS on the road. It means this team will have ugly nights like this until Pop knows how to utilize his team correctly.
Oh, and fuck all the excuses from Bill Land and Sean Elliott. Every team has to deal with travel and scheduling issues. Suck it up and play. If Kawhi Leonard can show up, so can everyone else. HE busts his ass more than everyone else. Pau needs to snap and start fucking moving like he gives a shit out there. He just seems to be going through the motions and waiting for the playoffs to start.
And in case anyone thought Murray was going to do anything this year, I hope his early returns has cleared that nonsense up for you. He's a twig with handles right now.

I agree with everything you said but lets not give Kawhi credit either since he was also pretty shitty in this game. It's very evident that the Clippers have his number. He tends to struggle with this matchup. He needs to have 2 or 3 good games versus them and I don't care about win or losing those games. I just want to see him play well against them. It just seems like they have mental edge on him and that won't go away until he has a few good games against them.

I'm speaking in terms of effort. Sometimes shots don't go in, but you can always hustle. I saw guys dragging out there. Aldridge wasn't focused and just got torched on defense. Absolutely torched.

It's pretty obvious they refuse to let him post-up & collapse when he drives, even Doc said it to reporters that he won't let Kawhi beat 'em.
He keeps forcing shots & the Spurs haven't been making open shots against the Cripples which is like pouring gasoline on the fire.

It will definitely be difficult but Kawhi is going to have to find a way to be effective on the offensive end. He's going to have to find ways to be a play maker in that situation or be able to hit his fade away jump shots. Along with being able to play off the ball. I feel if Kawhi can have a few good games against the clippers then their spirits will be broken.

Lots of new faces. None of the young guys; Kyle, Simmons, Dijon, Lapro, Bertans, Forbes seem like good, regular rotation-worthy players. Neither do the old graybeards, Tony and Manu. That's a question mark for over half of the team members! Pau seems up-and-down so far. Deadman has been an inconsistent but pleasant surprise. Pop will need to do some serious coaching this season. In preseason I said I would be happy if they kept the 50-win streak alive. I'd take that this season.
I just wish PATFO had been a little more prescient about putting some pieces around Kawhi.

Don't you remember the 2015 series when Porker/Danny couldn't make a shot when the Clips were blitzing Kawhi? Today, Patty couldn't make anything & Kyle was just a warm body.
The best way to attack that defense is to run PnRs w/ Pau & force DeAndre to get out of the lane or give up a wide open look to Pau. Posting up the bigger Moute or playing ISO against a set defense is playing into Doc's hands.

We got fuckers around here starting game threads who don't even know we're in SA. No wonder we suck, freaking amateurs....#Bteam

They are not moving the ball well enough, IMO.
And all of those guys need time in the NBA... Only way you get rotation worthy players from day one is getting vets in FA, and the Spurs have their vets. They may not be carrying their load like they are supposed to, and that is a problem.
But all the young players would need to play and be relied on more, and push through mistakes to become real contributors.
Usually contending teams don't have so many rookies at the same time for a reason, at least not many that they plan to rely upon. As impatient as ppl are with them, they have barely played. It's like Pop said, "they have played a minute and a half." On nights when Manu is shitting things up, Pop would be better to just go with the young players and let them push through.

I'd have gone with Kyle or Simmons and see what happened. Either they shat things up like Manu or either of them pushed through. But neither of them had as bad a game as Manu had. And IMO, but of course that is just me, Kyle needs to get going. He's not this bad of a shooter as he appears to be, and he was not this reluctant a scorer as he appears to be either. I think Pop doesn't care about him scoring bc he's playing with super high usage players, but he's also not going to help much if he doesn't get going with his own scoring.

Kids got plenty of run in the 2nd half.... IIRC, Manu didn't play at all in the 3rd and 4th quarter...
IMO, Pop probably is more concerned about getting Pau acclimated, and try not to lose too many games missing two starters... bench is going to have plenty of time to play.

We just got to enjoy the season... sometimes the team looks like a real dangerous contender, but others the eldest show that they are long in the tooth and the youngest show that they are too green. It's a balance between not letting the oldest linger without reps and getting enough playing time for the youth...

Frankly, we've looked like a dangerous contender when Kawhi and LMA have efficient games, and at least one of Patty or Simmons are playing well...
Things could change a bit once we get another defender in Danny, and we figure out what Kyle's role is going to be off the bench. Bertrans started with a kick, but the last few games he's been missing good looks. Work in progress, tbh, everything has to come together.
