Just a rant thread TBH

Now that TD is gone you can truly see in depth how much of a Defensive juggernaut he was and what his effect on the Defensive efficiency of the team was.

I'm in awe that all those Ben Wallace got, heck even when Bruce was a runner up to me it was a given that TD was not only the defensive anchor on the team but the very best Defensive player on the NBA hands down.

Those intangibles... :depressed

Marcus Camby was an elite shot blocker in his prime, but his PnR and overall defense were nowhere close to Tim's cerebral dominance.

Tim was too good of an offensive player to win dpoy tbh. I don't see kawhi winning anymore if he continues playing at a high offensive level.

The vast majority of Duncan's career came before defensive metrics came to be at least somewhat prevalent. Since most of the idiots voting on these things know very little about defense, defensive credentials were often based on "looking the part" of the stereotypical great basketball player of the modern era. That entailed: being dark skinned and freakishly athletic, cussing and sweating profusely and being highly demonstrative.

There's a strong argument to be made that he's the greatest team defender in at least modern history and him not having a bunch of DPOY's is the biggest individual award travesty in the history of the league.

Ben Wallace being around didn't help tbh and by the time Timmy was older people were reluctant to give him what may be seen as a lifetime achievement award even if it was deserved. I mean just lol that players like camby, chandler, and Noah have DPOYs but Tim has none in the same timeline

Both Duncan and Bowen were robbed of DPOY awards in their careers. :(

In fairness, Ben Wallace was a terrific defensive player. Maybe Tim should've gotten his one of those years but I think Wallace's DPOYs are well deserved for the most part, same with Dwight. Marcus Camby, Tyson Chandler, Marc Gasol and Joakim Noah on the other hand? Over Timmy?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. The league should name the DPOY trophy after Duncan.

Marc Gasol in 12-13 and Joakhim Noah in 13-14. Timmy should've gotten a lifetime achievement DPOY one of those years if nothing else.

the DPOY and all defensive team became a joke when one season Duncan didn't even make any team and Kobe, who was being hid on defense, was making it every season.
