Mississippi is kinda like a 3rd World poveryball country....guess I'll choose that.
If I wanted to pay attention to politics, I'd be in politics. Democracy has become an illusion to convince us that we have a say in our government, when in reality the electoral college, lobbies, and PACs carry all the power.
For this reason, I choose not to vote. I'll just keep paying my taxes and let somebody else figure it out...which is exactly what would happen if I did vote.

You can still affect change at the local level through voting. But the Presidential and Senate races have largely become a circus.
Voted for shits and giggles and to see by how much the orange ferret loses New York.
This. And I'm sure fatnecks will still say shit to you like “you didn't vote you have no right to complain!” even though in reality their vote didn't mean shit to begin with
Exactly. All I hear is "it's your responsibility to vote".
No, it's not. Voting is a right, not a responsibility. And I refuse to vote for one party just because I don't like the other option.
Stupid people who feel obligated to vote, but have no idea what they are voting for, is part of the reason our system is as fucked as it is.
You can still affect change at the local level through voting. But the Presidential and Senate races have largely become a circus.
Agreed, I'll participate in local elections if it's something I feel strongly about and have researched.
This shit show, though? I'm just sitting back and munching on popcorn. I've never felt more justified in my decision not to go to the polls.

Voting stations are so outdated. I can't believe the government can't build a secure system where people can just have the option of voting online. The voter participation would probably double or triple. I guess they just fear people like this though:

No. Bitter. And I had a feeling Trump would pimp the voter base from the Rust Belt states and Michigan, who've seen their manufacturing industry decimated by outsourcing and foreign trade agreements. Even Michael Moore (not a fan) called it:
Midwest Math, or Welcome to Our Rust Belt Brexit. I believe Trump is going to focus much of his attention on the four blue states in the rustbelt of the upper Great Lakes – Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Four traditionally Democratic states – but each of them have elected a Republican governor since 2010 (only Pennsylvania has now finally elected a Democrat). In the Michigan primary in March, more Michiganders came out to vote for the Republicans (1.32 million) that the Democrats (1.19 million). Trump is ahead of Hillary in the latest polls in Pennsylvania and tied with her in Ohio. Tied? How can the race be this close after everything Trump has said and done? Well maybe it’s because he’s said (correctly) that the Clintons’ support of NAFTA helped to destroy the industrial states of the Upper Midwest. Trump is going to hammer Clinton on this and her support of TPP and other trade policies that have royally screwed the people of these four states. When Trump stood in the shadow of a Ford Motor factory during the Michigan primary, he threatened the corporation that if they did indeed go ahead with their planned closure of that factory and move it to Mexico, he would slap a 35% tariff on any Mexican-built cars shipped back to the United States. It was sweet, sweet music to the ears of the working class of Michigan, and when he tossed in his threat to Apple that he would force them to stop making their iPhones in China and build them here in America, well, hearts swooned and Trump walked away with a big victory that should have gone to the governor next-door, John Kasich.
From Green Bay to Pittsburgh, this, my friends, is the middle of England – broken, depressed, struggling, the smokestacks strewn across the countryside with the carcass of what we use to call the Middle Class. Angry, embittered working (and nonworking) people who were lied to by the trickle-down of Reagan and abandoned by Democrats who still try to talk a good line but are really just looking forward to rub one out with a lobbyist from Goldman Sachs who’ll write them nice big check before leaving the room. What happened in the UK with Brexit is going to happen here. I won't demonize Trump supporters in this case, because I empathize, but it's going to hurt real bad when those manufacturing jobs he promised don't materialize. The age of the United States as a manufacturing superpower is over. I don't care what kind of incentives you give to corporations to manufacture here, foreign labor will always be able to bid lower, unless Americans are prepared to pay 4 grand for a 50" TV.
Hillary got fat with complacency and pocketed those states as a sure thing, and it was a tactical error that cost her the presidency.

That's the part I couldn't get. Trump is known to outsource work from his own business. He is a billionaire who had a history of trampling worker rights. He still owns a huge amount of assets. What in the world would people think that he would spearhead initiatives to help the "little guys" and harm his own pocket?

To me it's simple. Don't shit on people, write them off them as obsolete and extinct, pathologize their values and their concerns and then expect their vote.
So Clinton wins the populate vote, and yet Trump wins the electoral college (and presidency) by a healthy margin?

It's all about presentation. Hillary comes off as Ivory Tower, elitist, smug, while Trump is the "everyman" kid from Queens who built his empire through bootstrap hard work and hustle, the fun loving guy who says "You're fired" on TV and shows up on tha wrasslin'.

Thank goodness the Deplorable Left lost. Now maybe we can make actual progress on race relations, actual activism can happen in black communities now, the majority won't have to conform to ultra-minority interests and hopefully hypocrisy won't be the tone of this Administration.
The thing with Trump is he is what everyone has been claiming to want for so long; change.
Unfortunately, we have a bunch of butt-hurt, self-indugled, self-absorbed LOLeftists that only know identity politics have already indicted the man when he hasn't acted and it's truly unfair.
Yet we've the SAME THING FROM BOTH PARTIES IN THE LAST 16 YEARS. Both Left and Right, mainly the Left tho, are establishment. Trump isn't establishment. That is change, at the very least. Let the man act before indicting him because a panderer didn't win.

Just because your family are racist fucks don't mean a large portion of trump supporters are in the same mentality. Most trump supporters were tired of the established narrative. Nothing was going to change with Hillary. People don't want to acknowledge that Obama was a terrible president and Hillary was going to make it worse. You seem to to be a little misguided. But I think you can be open minded enough to dig a little deeper into why tens of thousands of people in Michigan and Wisconsin showed up to trump campaigns. It wasn't about racism or bigotry or whatever political incorrectness trump carried. To a small degree sure. But the masses wanted to know if he was going to rid of ineffective policies set by Obama and add their jobs back. Hillary was literally going to her own dem states and telling them she was going to enact policies that would strangle job growth further with a tone of betterment for them. She was fucking nuts and people realized this. Unfortunately for young voters and or dem supporters they believed the media driven hype train and took the supposed security of a comfortable Hilary lead for granted. They thought it was won without playing the game. Bottom line trump attacked the issues people were looking for and Hilary thought she was untouchable. The people spoke loud and clear.

It's about making the country better for everyone no matter the allegiance. Many people accepted and didn't protest in the streets when Obama won. We lived normal as best as possible and now it's time for change. I wish the dems would grow up and just give it time and give trump the benefit of doubt just as republicans did for obama.i agree whole heartedly... im registered with no party preference, because i always want to reserve the right to vote whichever way i feel given the circumstance and not end up a hypocrite/shill, which unfortunately is pretty commonplace. i understand that both parties have some awful supporters, but the hateful/racist portion more heavily resonates with the right at this point, which i wish wasn't a major issue in the campaign.
and i especially agree with the last sentence of your comment.

Certainly, considering the current state of your country, a Purge or two, couldn't hurt, IMO TBH.
That was the only way to convince states to join the union b/ tiny states would never have a voice in elections otherwise.
The other option is to breakup the Unions & decentralize the gov't.
Yup.

unbelievable that some archaic rules from 100 years ago or so still prevail...
To sum up your vote counts only if you live in "swing" states, if you live in Cali or Texas don't bother voting and president is elected by the minority of the voters. It is time US political system be reformed tbh... we are in 2016 for christ sake

What, you thought "we" were just going to keep getting slaughtered every 4 years and do nothing about it? Well, frankly I thought that. Some people don't think like that. Some sit down and plan a way to beat the Celtics after they kicked our ass for decades. Magic Johnson did that. Trump, sat down and came up with a plan around the blue wall.
I never thought the Dems would make another mistake after '00. I was blessedly wrong.

You make it sound like it's just a few and that it's not a culture. Palestinian communities throw parties for suicide bombers, dude. And bringing it back to Hillary, she admitted that SA and Qatar govts (wikileaks) fund ISIS. Guess who funds Hillary? Use your brain, dude. America and the world didn't lose on Tuesday (at least relative to the alternative).

It's not "archaic" at all. Remember, the US isn't just one big country. It's a confederation of 50 states, all with their own unique populations, political climates and concerns. The Electoral College is in place to make sure there's more parity between the states. California, Texas and New York still have a lot of influence in the process with 122 electoral votes between them. But the system makes sure that they can't completely dominate the process at the expense of everyone else. It's actually a smart system for dealing with a population as large and diverse as ours.

And we don't do that. We just dislike it when people cross the border into our country illegally, or abuse our broken immigration system in order to carry out terrorist attacks and/or spread radical religious doctrine. But people like you conflate that with "hating people because of their religion/background" because virtue signaling is more important to you than the truth.

But look at who the swing states are - states like New Hampshire, Iowa and Nevada that would have NO voice without the Electoral College. With the system we have now, their key role in the process forces candidates to run a national campaign instead of strictly pandering to urban centers on the coasts.

a president should serve the people, not some random geographic regions

Not really. Take away the Electoral College and the big states simply drown out flyover country. I know liberals are fine with that because it would greatly reduce the chance that they ever lose another election, but it's not healthy for a republic.
Bottom line: we're electing the President of the United States, not the President of California, Texas, Ohio and Florida.

of course you aren't electing president of california. thats why the whole country votes :lol
instead the EC means we are electing president of florida, ohio, pennsylvania to run the whole country

CN is seriously trying to defend the EC? It doesn't exist to protect voters. It exists to protect states, because when all that shit was made up, the US was a federation of states that had populations more loyal to their governors than president. States like RI thought they had a right to have their voice (NOT plural) heard, or else they may as well just leave. Now that it's established that no one can leave, it shouldn't matter. Same with the Senate, which was designed to be more of a UN than a Parliament.
The EC is archaic, and it needs to go. So does the Senate.

I understand your pov and federation concept but a system that leads to a situation where a president is elected with less votes than the runner up seems crazy to me and yes "archaic". Also and again if less true after this election, in some states your vote means shit because state is lost or won before even starting, thats also is crazy to me.

It's been wonderful, &. Anytime I want I can go to Fox, or CNN, or, MSNBC and get my bell rung. It's been so great. Instead of waking up in the middle of the nite and thinking Spurs, or Suns, or, Lakers, I wake up and think Trump and mine enemies. I just roll over on that couch, and fall back into dreamland.
I've wanted to see those fuckers suffer and now I get it on a daily 24/7 basis. They're absolutely livid on CNN. And it's just starting to sink in on 'em. That's the sweet part.

Even saw you let a "Go Spurs Go" the other day. That's a new level of happiness from you I thought I'd never see. I fucking pinched myself to make sure I wasn't dreaming.
Screw CNN...go over to MSNBC. Trust me. If you truly enjoy their pain and suffering you'll find it in abundance over there. Just great times to be had by all.

I still shake a little with that first over nite glance for fear I'm going to find some calamity/catastrophe of a recount, or some fucking thing. That's why they're leaving Michigan open. They balance it by leaving NH open, but, it still makes me a little nervous. They'd like to turn Wisconsin, but, the numbers just don't make it possible. The first 72 hours after Tuesday nite you can bet they were searching high & low for a foothold.
It was a brilliant strategy and implementation of a plan by Trump and his people. They didn't just charge forward and into it. They obviously planned long & hard to come up with thiat. He never bit on their bait. Can ya imagine me, &? LMAO. I'd a lasted, what, 1/2-a-day?
This may be my last opportunity to experience a President such as this. I intend on enjoying every moment. I brushed aside Bush I & 2, and Reagan before that because I didn't know better. I won't make that mistake this time.
