10/06/05 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Strong Island Sound
Today the Strong Island Sound announced that Lloyd "Sweet Pea" Daniels former NBA player and streetball Legend will be making a comeback in the ABA. He is scheduled to report to veterans camp on Oct. 15th but stated he may make it out to a tryout camp this weekend to check out some players and get in an extra workout. Daniels who has been working out in an undisclosed location in New Jersey said, " I've been watching the TV and I see these guys playing today and I got the itch to play again. It's just something I know I can do if not to teach the younger guys the understanding of the game."

Daniels a friend and former player for Coach Medina said, "It was a great thing when I heard Joe got the Head Job on Long Island. He's a great workout guy and really knows his X's and O's. He's one guy I can get excited about playing for. I've been around a lot of coaches and this guy is as good if not better then any of them. I know he can get me in shape and get me ready to play again. Who knows where I'll end up ?"

Coach Medina said, " I think this is a fantastic opportunity for the fans of Long Island to see a great fundamental ball player who made it from the hard streets of New York to the NBA. He not only is a great player but has a message for the kids and that's never give up on your dreams."

Daniels who was heavily recruited out of High School landed at UNLV for Coach Jerry "The Shark" Tarkanian. Through tough trials and tribulations Lloyd was unable to play at UNLV, but would continue to pursue his dream and later would be vindicated when Tarkanian received the Head Coaching position for San Antonio Spurs. Lloyd continued in the NBA playing for Philadelphia 76'ers, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Toronto Raptors. He has now started his own AAU program in Jersey and has named the team the "Running Rebels" to honor the program and his former coach Jerry Tarkanian.

Lloyd really seems sincere about his return and his message for the youth. We all hope this works for him and the organization.

The funniest Buck Harvey line I ever read is when he wrote that Daniels "Couldn't guard a mannequin".

I remember back to the preseason that was supposed to signal Daniels arrival. The talk was that he would average 15-20 ppg. It didn't last long. Once the season started, he tanked.
