View Full Version : Trump may become the first president to appoint an LGBT cabinet member

Trump has placed openly gay Richard Grenell on his short list of potential candidates for the position of UN Ambassador. If Trump brings Grenell on as U.N. Ambassador, the Gateway Pundit notes that he will become the first president to appoint an openly gay person (http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2016/11/will-donald-trump-first-president-appoint-openly-gay-cabinet-member/) to his cabinet, marking a huge milestone for LGBT rights in the United States.

They voted for him after he showed his support for transgender rights on the campaign trail, referred to gay marriage as a "settled issue" that conservatives need to move on from, invited an openly gay man (Peter Thiel) to speak at the convention, and held up the rainbow flag on stage at one of his rallies. A gay cabinet member won't suddenly make them regret their choice after all of that.

Trump threw the Jeebotards a bone by making Pence his VP, but that's all they're getting. They have nowhere near as much clout in the GOP as they used to.

Trump's not really a Republican. He definitely isn't conservative. All part of why I thought he could actually work as president (in the middle - especially if the Clinton/Obama-less Democrat party hangs left with Bernie/Warren/Michael Moore/Sarandon).

Yeah religion wasn't even a topic during the election, can't remember the last time that happened.

I actually wouldn't be surprised to see the Dems pick a William Jennings Bryan religious populist type 4 years from now to try and steal that vote.

Not necessarily.

It wasn't even 100 years ago when the populist/progressive wing of the country was religious (William Jennings Bryan for instance was an adamant supporter of teaching creationism in school). There's no reason that couldnt come back.

so?

What's far left about their informal platform, policies, which must be wonderful for the 99% because the VRWC/Repugs/Trash intend to destroy anything Barry has done that Liz and Bernie support, eg, bank reserves, forcing financial advisers to work for their clients instead of screwing their clients, financial regulation, CFPB, etc, etc.

warren-booker ticket would be pretty solid imho. give sanders a cabinet spot as a retirement gift (although he's arguably better off in the senate). bernie bros will get behind warren pretty easily without having to deal with the socialism boogeyman buzzword during the generals

warren's annihilation of john stumpf was pretty awesome and could be her own personal launching point and a sign of her willingness to take on wall street, etc

As long as he picks SC justices from the lists he put out, they'll be satisfied - think long term/lasting. And he's been strong on the abortion issue - not that Roe vs Wade will ever be overturned. For me, gotta win first - then worry about how much he gets done.

Republican Ben Carson opts against job in Trump Cabinet

Retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, a former 2016 Republican presidential candidate who is an adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, has opted against accepting a Cabinet position in the Trump administration, his spokesman said on Tuesday.

Carson, a popular writer and speaker in conservative circles, has been a close adviser to Trump and is a vice chairman of Trump's transition team.

He has been mentioned as a possible secretary of health and human services or education.

Carson's business manager, Armstrong Williams, said Carson has made clear he has no experience in running a federal bureaucracy.

"Dr. Carson doesn't feel like that's the best way for him to serve the president-elect," Williams told Reuters.

He said Carson would remain a close adviser of Trump and a friend. "His life has not prepared him to be a Cabinet secretary," Williams said.

Strawman said he was going to head of the line for potus in 2020. You'll have to lol at him, not me.

He'll probably go the Cisneros route and make a bunch of money in the private sector before taking a run at senator or governor or whatever.

It's not like he's as old as you. He's a young guy and now he has something nice to put on his resume. I don't see the downside to taking the job, even if he knew in advance it would only be for a few years.
