Terrible screens by Aldridge wow

Not a fan of his screen game. They're so bad, I have to think he does it on purpose to get the ball back for an open jumper.

Which would make sense if he wasn't so bad off the ball screening.

I'm not at that point yet, but it's discouraging after the hype surrounding him from the summer league.

He is who he is imo. Doesn't have to do with who's on the court, it's just the player he is

I can't take the fall for Danny, he was already coming off an injury, but I will finally suspend my thread starting privileges as losing Dedmon sucks. It's a 12 step program and I have finally reached the first step which is admitting that I have a problem.

All jokes aside, I had no intention of starting the game thread but considering there was less than 2 hours until tipoff and no one had made a thread I figured I'd take the initiative.

It's a bizarre time on Spurstalk now where game threads barely get made in advance and game threads struggle to reach double digits for pages. :depressed

This team has no leadership. They are talented, Kawhi masking a lot of things, but there is no leadership. Such a big void with no Tim.

LMA / Pau are so talented but they are obviously soft. They won't lead but can be great pieces. TP is too diminished. Same with Manu. It's on Kawhi and it's not his nature.

The chemistry should come and hopefully some of the atrocious guard play (Manu and Patty throwing passes at bigs feet leading to immediate fast breaks for other teams) will be cleaned up.

I'm just not sure there is a heart on this team.

I agree completely. There just isn't any hunger whatsoever. I'm hoping it's a case of it simply being November and missing Green for so many games, but with the way the roster is constructed you just don't have any players outside of Kawhi who have a swagger and can change the game with their hustle or knack for big shots. I can't even see a plausible trade where we can get "hungrier" players outside of trading LMA.

Tony and Manu are looking like the vocal players when they are on the court. The problem is they don't get to play in crunch time that much anymore.

DPG21920
11-14-2016, 11:09 PM
Sean hit the nail on the head. TP needed to play more. Mills cannot handle the ball or initiate an offense. He can't do it. He's not a PG. PERIOD.

Manu has been bad too.

TP is the only legit guard on the team that can initiate offense and get guys into clean sets. That's a problem as many have said.

Pop is such a big piece of shit. Dedmon was limping after the Winslow play and he still kept him in the game knowing he was clearly injured just to send a message.

The sad part is that Dedmon was absolutely great defensively when he was in the game. They feel his presence inside and they stopped to get offensive rebounds after he checked in.

Not gonna lie. My first question after "who won" the Spurs game is now, "how many points did Leonard have?"

I'm not proud of it, but it is what it is.

This must be what it would've felt like to be Kobe fan all those years. :lol

I wouldnt put any stock in this game. The spurs basically was bored by the third quarter. :lol

The Jazz and Rockets comeback win is probably a good inidication they have a higher potential than their performance has shown...

Probably just a matter of focus.

The team is mega-talented. Once more chemistry comes, they will win even more. But there is something missing and it's a softer thing. It's not talent. Im not worried about chemistry.

:depressed

I'm not sure how this team is mega-talented. I think youre overrating us quite a bit. Kawhi is an mvp candidate, yes. Aldridge's go to game is really unreliable. Pau is a shit defender. Our second best player is a guy who can't dribble and drive. Our best bench player is a senior citizen. And our backup pg isnt a back up pg.

Spurs are a talented team but they are not mega-talented

I agree completely. There just isn't any hunger whatsoever. I'm hoping it's a case of it simply being November and missing Green for so many games, but with the way the roster is constructed you just don't have any players outside of Kawhi who have a swagger and can change the game with their hustle or knack for big shots. I can't even see a plausible trade where we can get "hungrier" players outside of trading LMA.

Green has that swagger and has made the game-changing plays that you speak of plenty of times.

Did you hear Kawhi in the courtside post-game interview? When he said, "It's hard to keep the intensity up for the whole game"? Oh, well, fuck there you have it. It's hard to keep the intensity up. I mean, now that we know that, it makes sense why either the first half or the second half has to suck. It's hard.

HarlemHeat37

Eh, I don't think it means much, tbh..they coasted during the 2nd half against a team with limited talent..

The reason the game was close is because Waiters scored 18 in the half..

I still think had Danny not gotten injured, the game would have been a blowout win. I do have my concerns though, but I want to see this team play a full lineup for a couple of games first.

It's hard when he's one of the only few doing it. I honestly think he's overworked on both ends the first 6-7 games and its showing in his offense. A lot of his jumpers have been short recently.

Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of him w/ the ball in PnRs regardless. I like him better getting work in off the ball.

He scored 16 in the fourth quarter, and a lot of that is on the Spurs shit defense. Green and Dedmon being out hurt, but that also tells you how bad the rest of the bench outside of Dedmon is defending.

But the game was close because the Spurs turned the ball over 17 times, and Miami had 14 steals. And the Spurs weren't coasting when they came out of the locker room - they just got outworked by the Heat in the second half, and they got curb-stomped in the paint.

Green has that swagger and has made the game-changing plays that you speak of plenty of times.

He was great in the playoffs last year considering how much he struggled in the regular season, and looks great this year so far.

But he can't create his own shot, so while he's immense defensively I'm hoping to see more consistency in his shooting this season as he gets healthier which the Spurs will definitely need since that opens up so much for them.

Nothing new about his rebounding or lack thereof tonight. The guy is overrated on this board. A lot of people see him as this All-Star when the only thing he does at an All Star level is shoot the ball from 12-18 feet. He's average at best at everything else in the game.

Eh, whenever he hits a three it really seems to get the team going. Doesn't matter if he can create that shot by himself or not, it has the same effect. Hell, he nearly single handedly reversed how G1 in the 2014 Finals was going with his shooting.

No, they just aren't a great team, at the moment..

However, from re-watching the game, it looks like they toyed with Miami in the 1st half and got whatever they wanted..the Heat only have 1, maybe 2 legit starters on their current, active roster..tough to keep energy and concentration high against that level of competition..

No good teams do what SA has done at home tbh..I'm talking about the chemistry. I'm talking about the lack of effort. You can't just quit, especially when you already have 3 losses and it's being talked about as an issue by the coach.

It's one thing to get outplayed by a good team. Getting outplayed by a shit team doesn't make it better. If they're not professional enough to keep enough energy and focus to put away a team with only 1 or 2 starters? You're right - they aren't a great team.

If they were gassed, you can work on conditioning. If they were missing wide open shots, you can make them work with Chip. But if guys don't want the W badly enough to focus for 48 minutes? And if they aren't thinking in terms of sending a message to the other teams in the league? Yeah, it's going to be a short post-season at best.

You sort of backed up what DPG said about not having leadership.

Are you concerned with lack of consistent penetration from guards moving forward?

Pop is such a big piece of shit. Dedmon was limping after the Winslow play and he still kept him in the game knowing he was clearly injured just to send a message.

The sad part is that Dedmon was absolutely great defensively when he was in the game. They feel his presence inside and they stopped to get offensive rebounds after he checked in.

Dedmon went out at the next stoppage of play. And while he was in and injured, he still contributed. It's easy to see in replays how bad the injury was. But seeing as he got up and got two rebounds immediately afterward, I can totally see Pop thinking it was cool to ride it out.

Are you concerned with lack of consistent penetration from guards moving forward?

Short-answer: Yes. Longer-answer: I still have some hope that TP can do enough of that when healthy. But there is zero margin for error there because of the lack of any other guard capable of making a pass let alone penetrate and draw defenders (Simmons is the only other one but he is so dicey with his ball handling).

It's a problem and the only hope is that TP has some juice left when healthy (which I think he may have just enough).

Idunno...he was obviously hobbling and favoring the knee on the plays immediately following. And he waved at the bench asking to be taken out when they came back down to the Spurs side of the court. I'm not sure whether Pop missed it or whether he was just letting it ride out, but Dedmon obviously wanted off the floor.

There were two or three possessions AFTER he waved at the bench to come out, one of which he was forced to stay in because he was the man for the jump-ball. The fact that he kept staying in plays and contributing instead if fouling to stop play was a mix of courage and stupidity.
