Since he is back from injury, dude plays solid basketball... 25 mpg, good shot selection, good ball distribution... exactly what Spurs need. When him and patty play like that, we just fine at PG position tbh fwiw

I wonder...if for older guys, instead of playing them less minutes per night...it might be more beneficial to give them games off instead.

Still has plenty of gas in the tank. Ive never understood the hate, he is the best PG we've ever had and is still better than probably half the starting PGs out there. I want to see him retire a Spur (unless someone offers an insane trade).

We will never know how much of his performance is tied to injury/age at this point.

I think Pop uses him more when either:

A)He is playing good in practice. He has played well in the previous game. And when he is making his jump shots.

or

B)It's a favorable matchup for Parker that game.

Probably all of the above to be honest.

He has been just what we have needed on offense. Unfortunately his defense is still a steaming pile of shit.

We don't have a point guard that is a good defender, we just have to use the guy that knows the defense system the Spurs play. He doesn't have to be a great individual defender, just a good team defender. Judging by the Spurs D for the last few years, the lack of a defensive point guard isn't hurting the Spurs defense numbers.

I don't know about that. Anderson has the height to shoot over most people. I could guard his ass all day long but he could still probably shoot over me with ease. Parker is shorter and has a worse shot. I'm not sure what my point was. But I think if I played one on one against those two, Anderson would have a much better record over 10 games.

Parker was great, last season, from November to December..he was probably the 2nd best player on the team during that stretch, tbh..

Unfortunately, he completely fell off a cliff in January and never recovered..I would prefer that he'd struggle right now, but peak in May-June:lol

I have played against NBA players in camps (Gary Trent and Wally Szcerbiak were the best known but a couple of other people may have had short careers) , not saying that I am better than Parker currently.... Since we are roughly the same age (I am about 60 days older) I know that I have lost a few steps from where I was just a couple of years ago. He was on his best a mainly speed based player. As a distributor he is mediocre for a NBA point guard. As a shooter he is below average for an NBA guard. He had the ability to drive to the basket with a fast first step and regularly put up a great percentage of shots right at the rim.

Over the last couple of years he has had plantar fascia issues which is highly painful. It doesn't exactly cut your ability to be mobile but definitely makes you hesitate to contact the ground in a decisive manner. So as he is rapidly having his main advantage deteriorate he looks like a very pedestrian point guard. Do I think that I personally could take him today in a game of 1 on 1? No, do I think perhaps that say 24 year old me could take on today's Parker in a game? I would like to see how that goes.... That is the problem. I was not a great basketball player I was one hell of a high school basketball player, but a mediocre division 3 basketball player. When a former all-star who is being paid like an all-star has degenerated to the point that a guy who was a mediocre wing in college feels that I can guard him means that the other players in the NBA are probably marking that game on their calendars.

Its pretty obvious this team looks its best on offense when Tony is the floor general .

No, he's not. And no he doesn't have 'plenty of gas in the tank.' He's an old, corroded battery that occasionally works when given a jump but is ultimately unreliable.

The "plenty of gas in the tank" comment is just hopeful or delusional or made by a poster who has not watched the last two seasons after December.

Awesome elvis The other hand it's not unusual for colleges to hold high level camps for high school and prep school basketball players. You usually have a couple of players from their current teams there along with a few alumni it's also during the summer when a decent number of pros tend to work out at their old schools.... Do I think that it's their top level competition? No, but if you check most of the division 1 camps you can usually find a few NBA and nbadl players at them or at least you could a decade and a half ago.

If being a mediocre D3 basketball player is anything like being a mediocre D3 tennis player, not sure how in the hell you make the leap to beating pros. Even a past-prime professional athelete is still around 5 tiers better than a mediocre D3 player.

Please, name the point guard that has had either a better career or more ability as a Spur (for the majority of his career) than Parker?

Tony looked done in the beginning of the season, but clearly that week off to rest his injury has helped. Hopefully, he can pace himself and not completely wear down by April, May or (if they're lucky) June.
