Because they can't compete with any of the other platforms at this point.
Is anybody really asking for a portable console/gaming system at this point though? Your ADHD is so bad that your smart phone, tablet, and laptop can't keep you occupied for a few minutes?

I think there's still a market for portable consoles/games. Great for trips or playing in bed.
But looking forward, if driverless cars become prevalent, I think there would definitely be greater demand for portable.

The consoles are a lot cheaper than gaming pcs that can do 1080p at 60 fps though. If you want a 1080p60 gaming system you need to drop $200 on the CPU, $200 on the GPU, $50 on the board, $50 on the RAM, $40 on the power supply, $40 on the case, $50 on the hard drive, $20 on the mouse and keyboard, and $40 on a good controller. You can't expect a $300 console to beat a $700 pc. But the Switch is only $50 cheaper than a PS4, and the hybrid CPU/GPU in it is supposed to only be around the level of PS3/XBox360. So third party games are going to play like shit on it just like they did on Wii U and Wii.

:lmao giving money to any sort of tech from an indiegogo campaign. you might as well invest your entire life savings into amway and mary kay.
that being said, Nintendo's main point is it's difference from PS/Xbox, which is basically just a device for people who are from povertyball countries. Nintendo easily has the best 1st party games which you can't play anywhere else; who gives a shit about 3rd party games that you can play on the PC. if you're looking to buy yet another fps game or a faggy adventure game masquerading as an FPS, nintendo isn't gonna have that.
I'll tell you who won't like this...DMC.

I could see myself buying this as an alternative to a gaming laptop. Much less cost invested and more portable. I would use it mainly for road trips and vacations, or when I head over to a friends and want to be able to game easily.

Actually the newer i3s can handle 1080/60 gaming for most games. With some deals you could get the price down to ~$500ish for a PC, and they are obviously more versatile than console. But I like the Switch, because it's doing something that other consoles are not doing. If I want to game at home, I don't want to do it on an underpowered console when I have my computer sitting right there.

PCSX2 runs really well for me. I have been playing God of War on it lately, and it looks so much better in 1080p. But PCSX2 needs a decent cpu. My preferred computer gaming pad is the XBox 360 wireless controller, but you need to buy the one that comes with the wireless dongle advertised as the gamepad for Windows PC (I personally use my controllers from my XBox 360 and bought a chink knockoff dongle off amazon for wireless connection to my PC).

Hey man, have you been able to get Shadow of the Colossus to play at a steady 60 fps on your system through PCSX2? I get lots of drops into the 40s on that one game but I was talking to someone who insisted he plays it at 60 fps on an i5-U laptop processor that should be much much slower than my Xeon E3-1231v3. The E3-1231v3 is an i7-4770 minus 100 MHz and with ECC support, marketed as an entry level server/workstation cpu. It benches the within 1-2% of the i7-4770 in things like Firestrike (physics score) and Cinebench, which can be explained by the 2.8% lower clockspeed (E3-1231v3 is 3.6 GHz on quadcore loads, i7-4770 is 3.7 GHz on quadcore loads). I'm wondering if this guy is full of shit or if I just have things configured incorrectly. Then again, maybe I just have an older version of the ROM? Because every other game I have tried runs 60 fps.

They didn't show anything with Sonic. That franchise is a real mixed bag since going 3D. Mario Kart is just going to be the one already out on Wii U. It's an awesome game but nothing new. Zelda I'm not really sure about. I can't say I was wowed by the presentation of it, but Nintendo has such a strong track record with that series they probably should deserve the benefit of the doubt right now. That shit just isn't going to fly in the days of huge patches and DLC unless they make their cartridges capable of being written to. And the controller that comes with it looks horrible for TV mode gaming. So you have to spend $70 for the Pro controller and $40 for a 128 GB microSD card right off the bat.

If Nintendo's not big on DLC that's bad for third party support man, because that's a huge part of making big budget games profitable now. I don't think this forgoing of third party games is a good strategy. I know they sold a shitload of Wiis, but most of them were to casuals who didn't buy games after the first year and just used the system for netflix and shit. And then no one bought Wii U. I'm kind of worried Nintendo is just going to end up making Android and iOS games if Switch fails, and then they're going to have to go free to play with microtranscations since mobile gamers would rather get nickel and dimed to death instead of paying for the game once (look how badly Super Mario Run sold for a lousy $10). If this ends up another Wii U they're done with consoles. On the plus side maybe we'd see Super Mario and Zelda on PC and/or Playstation, which would be awesome.

I don't think any console makes sense to buy at launch. You pay the highest price, they're hard to find, and launch games usually suck. PS3 was the worst launch I can remember, it ticked all three of those boxes. :lol
I think I'm just going to do what I did with PS4: wait until they get cheap as fuck and there is a good library of exclusives, with many being discounted since they're not new anymore. For instance, the most I paid for any of my PS4 games is $18 for Bloodborne, even though I got all the exclusives that excited me about the system (God of War 3, Bloodborne, The Last of Us, the Uncharted series, and Journey). I think I paid $75 in total for those eight games, all new discs except Journey (which I got digitally). Hopefully Nintendo has some great exclusives to make it worth it in a year or two.

One of the best features of PC gaming over the long run that isn't really talked about is the guaranteed backward compatibility. Not only do you continually get access to every game that you've purchased, but for some titles that are way ahead of their time graphically, when you upgrade down the line you can go back and play through the game with max settings. It's another layer of enjoyment built into the ecosystem and it's extremely friendly, considering that even the work laptop I'm typing this on can run some of the older games with no problem.

You don't have to convince me man, I'm still PC first. I'm kind of pissed Microsoft wrecked backwards compatibility in games from 10 years ago though with Games For Windows Live. It's the reason I'm really skeptical about UWP and the Windows Store. I can't play my PC copy of Gears of War any more because of the stupid GFWL integration.

Honestly, I don't know if they are big on DLC or not. The last console I bought was over 10 years ago so I don't know what they've been doing with the Wii U, other than fucking it up. I hope they don't stop making consoles. The industry needs something different than the usual boring FPS and same tired shit that has a 95% of underdelivering. And I don't think they'd make Zelda or Mario for those other consoles. If the Switch goes way south, and I really don't think it will, I can see them downsizing big time and just making consoles for the Japanese market where Nintendo is way more popular than Sony and Microsoft.

Dont know why they waste their time. Guess they have the money to spend, but still, their money is on handhelds not consoles.
That faggot Reggie is going to bankrupt Nintendo..somehow with his lame attempts.

Speaking of :lol Nintendo, who the hell pays $130 for that shitty master sword statue edition of the game. I heard that shit sold out in seconds. That thing looks like a slightly larger Happy Meal toy.

I guess the collectors edition of Mass Effect Andromeda is even worse at $200 with a shitty remote controlled car and no fucking copy of the game. :lmao

That shit's gay. But Nintendo sure does know its market, knowing the neckbeards and fattys would eat that shit up. And it did.

I'm just not feeling the Switch. For a handheld I don't care about graphics. I made that mistake once when I bought a PSP instead of a DS and within a few days realized that graphically intense games suck on a small portable screen. Loco Roco was so much more fun on my PSP than my favorite series of all time GTA. It made me feel like an idiot since 15 years before I said fuck the graphics and got Game Boy over Game Gear because Tetris and Battletoads were the kind of games that are awesome on a small screen while Mortal Kombat is fucking unplayable on a handheld even if it is in color.
But when I'm at my desk or on the couch I want some eye candy when I'm playing on a monitor or HDTV. The Switch's hardware is just so weak. Zelda even being cel shaded and with pretty toned down graphics runs at 1600x900 and 30 fps with drops into the 20s.
The Switch just feels like it's in a no man's land to me. It's trying to be the PSP or Vita on portable, which is stupid since 3DS is brilliant for handheld gaming. Graphics have never mattered in portable gaming. But they have always mattered for home console gaming, and this system doesn't deliver on that front. Back in the NES days they crushed Sega Master system graphically. N64 games usually looked better than PS1, and Gamecube games were really impressive too. But then they said to hell with graphics with the Wii, which sold well, but most people who bought Wii were casuals who didn't buy games after the novelty of Wii Sports wore off. I think Nintendo is misjudging both their portable and home markets with this console. They definitely misjudged the home console market with Wii U when they sold underpowered hardware and that stupid tablet controller. And Nintendo used to have so many awesome third party games on NES and SNES in their glory days, but this gimped hardware kind of makes it impossible.

Spot on the PSP. I've enjoyed a few FPS but for the most part, the best games are puzzle oriented. Loco et al. that elevator game was great as well. Knowing that, I still bought the Vita and have played it enough to get value out of it. The Switch looks to have a significantly bigger screen. I'll probably take a chance and buy one. But I'll do it under the guise as a b-day present for my kid.

Nintendo is living of the profit from Nitendo wii..
If this flops again like their last console, they must just give up...I say they can still afford to flop a couple more consoles before deciding to hand over the video game industry to Sony and PC.
Microsoft might ax the x-box if it continues to shit the bed.
