View Full Version : It Doesn't Hurt in Crunch Time Having...

Three of the best FT shooters in the NBA on the floor at the same time: Patty (currently ranked 2nd), Kawhi (currently ranked 5th), and Aldridge (normally top 20-25).

Spurs currently #1 FT shooting team (.843).

(Yes, Kyle was on the bench, in case you were going to post that next)

Golden State will likely finish #1 considering they have Steph, KD, and Klay, but the Spurs being such a good FT shooting team still seems so foreign to me.

Kawhi is scoring 7ppg in the 4th, anyone have an idea where this ranks?

It also helps having Danny Green in the game in crunch time. Very good D and currently ranked 9th in 3-Pt % (.457).

In crunch time, I'm convinced that there is no better skill to have than to be able to get to the FT line. When the team is behind, you can score with the clock stopped. When you're a few points ahead, you can bail out those ugly possessions when the opponent plays inspired D. Being able to knock them down at such a high rate turns that into an elite skill.

Kawhi is getting to the line at an elite level this year. I never hear anyone mention it, but LMA is averaging 5 FTA/36, and shooting .859 from the line - that's a very under-rated stat. Patty could make himself MUCH more valuable if he could learn how to get to the line more, and more consistently. Simmons is considerably better at drawing whistles than Patty, even if he is only shooting .700 from the FT line.

EDIT:

Those stats might be a little concerning tbh. It may shows that Kawhi could be going through a lot of wear and tear to be able to finish/win the games.

Observation; there are no Worriers, Clippers or Cavs starters in the Top 10. Shows that these teams are blowing out teams or are entering the 4th quarter with a comfortable lead.

Yeah. He didn't go to the FT line, which is part of his success. He's ranked 6th in FTs made this season and top 10 in attempts.
