Last week, Former Los Angeles Rams running back and hall of famer Eric Dickerson had a bunch of things to say about the team and their return to the Los Angeles area.

“Here is L.A., we have a defensive-minded coach, and we have an offense that is boring as hell,” said Dickerson. “They throw outs, they throw checkdowns, they spread the field every once in a while.”

“Then we have a quarterbacks coach – no offense – a quarterbacks coach, Chris Weinke, that’s coaching our No. 1 pick, that we traded all these draft picks for,” Dickerson said. “Show me the proof, show me what you’ve done, show me your history. What history do you have working with quarterbacks (and) developing quarterbacks?

“Then I could believe, and I just believe that they don’t have the right coaches and that’s what it comes down to: the coaching of a quarterback. You can’t just throw a quarterback out there and expect him to play well.”

According to TMZ (http://www.tmz.com/2016/11/28/eric-dikkerson-rams-not-wanted/), comments like that is the reason he has now been banned from the Rams sideline during games.

“The Hall of Famer went on his radio show early Monday and said, “Someone with the Rams told me I’m not wanted on sidelines at games, that what I’ve said makes the players uncomfortable.”

Dickerson did not reveal who made the call — but sources connected to the situation say it was someone powerful.

Dickerson said the Rams official told him his honesty was making players uncomfortable.

We’re told Dickerson is unhappy with the situation — especially because he’s not only been a supporter, but hosted the rookies at his home during training camp in his own “rookie symposium.

Would you believe that while in HS in Kansas Riggo won state with a 9.8? Yes he was lighter then, but he did have "good" speed at 240. Csonka was slow.

Simpson took 6th at the NCAA Champs in the 60. And while at USC he ran on a WR 4x1 team.

First time I became aware of Simpson was in Fresno at a track meet, he was running a leg on the San Francisco City 4x1 team. Saw...Orenthal James Simpson...in the program, thought...."cool name". I didn't know he was the nations top JC RB.

Dickerson was a Texas state 100 champ, to win Texas ya will have some serious jets. I have no problems seeing a 4.38ish for both Dickerson and Simpson.

Henry Carr actually beat Hayes at 200m numerus times, he was a long sprinter a 200/400m man, actually anchored our Olympic 4x4 team to a gold medal. He had anchored his Arizona State 4x4 to a World Record. An Olympic 200m champ. Wasn't much of a DB for the Giants however.

Texas Southern's/NY Giants Homer Jones the first player to ever spike the ball also beat Hayes in an NAIA 200m. Jones also the first player to return a kickoff for a TD on MNF.

Great you mention Cliff Branch too, that was another speed burner in his prime and could flat out fly. I know Mark Duper ran track too, he was not AS fast as those guys but for a 5'9 guy he could flat out RUN. There is a few others that are slipping my mind probably but these guys mentioned were just the cream of the crop when it came to speed. I know Ginn was fast as hell when you saw him returning kicks and going vertical, no clue his top speed though and he refused to race Chris Johnson one on one I believe. Keep talking speed guys man, this never gets old when it comes to football with me.

There is no way of knowing what these guys could run in their prime with pads on. Keep in mind Hayes was a footballer first, track was his other sport.

Duper ran on the same NWLa 4x1**** (won the NCAA) team with Joe Delaney a Chiefs RB and another NFLer to be Victor Oatis, forget the other guy. Duper and Delaney ran a 9.4.

Ted Ginn was more of a hurdler than a sprinter, not really fast when compared to fast guys. Johnson a 10.3ish cat at which is good but nothing great.

Yep, I know who Ron Brown is too! Another receiver/return man. Damn man how the hell do you get all this info? You are the book! I knew Duper was fast being a Fins fan too, had no clue he was that damn fast although on his rookie cart I have it did say on the back that he ran track so I knew he did based on that. None of the modern cats as great as they are can fly like these guys, athletes get better and so on but as they said you can't TEACH speed so that rings true today. Ginn just looks like he is flying because of his stride and longer legs I guess! He is fast but not on those guys level. Chris Johnson doesn't have shi*t on Walker at the RB as far as speed goes.... I bet Dickerson outruns him too easily in his prime. Them dudes were fast as hell man, damn...... I am going to watch Bob Hayes highlights now, dudes speed was flat out amazing. That Darrell Green clip I watched too as the #1 speed guy was just crazy, dude at 5'8 was incredible and he didn't have the longer legs the others had.

Been into speed and football as far back as I can remember, I was a sprinter, footballer. I keep up with sprinters IN football, call it a hobby.

The key to 100m sprinting is speed endurance not stride. We have seen tons of great sprinters at 5-8ish and shorter, Hell Ira Murchison a 10.1 WR holder was only 5-4.

Getting back to speed endurance, that is the ability to sustain/maintain a high % of your max velocity. All sprinter hit top end at around 60-70m, then it's all about who decellerates the slowest, that is where speed endurance comes into play and why 100m cats who also train for the 200m have a huge advantage. Those who can hold on longer to their max velocity are the ones who win the medals and set the records. Obviously a 40 or a 60 is different, there it is all about acceleration.

A fast footballer like a Ginn or a Johnson could hang with a world class 100m sprinter in a 40, but the difference in that speed endurance would start showing up before the 60. And a lot of great 100m sprinters are only 4.3 guys in a 40, their game is that abilty to maintain that top end longer.

Yes ya can't teach speed (meaning making a slow guy fast) but ya can take a fast guy and make him faster, that is why 100m guys run those 300's in training. The longer they can sustain that max velocity the faster their times will be.
