John climbing that scaffolding at Wembley Stadium "Don't Let the Sun" to join him still raises the hair. It is incomparable.

At prime he was almost beautiful.

Prince was all about symbolism.
Michael was all about substance.

I can't tell if you're disagreeing or just throwing out a catch phrase. Both were extremely talented songwriters and performers. But I don't think Micheal was on the same level...musically...as Prince. I'm not sure it's debatable.

And I wasn't a huge fan of either. Liked a lot of both of their work but not complete catalogs.

Anyway...they're playing GM videos on MTV Classic. Pretty cool. Find myself appreciating some of the early stuff slow stuff that I didn't care for at the time.

Never cared for GM. Queer shit, probably died from AIDs but still, he should have known better than to cheat a friend.

The problem with Prince is that he was so wrapped up in being symbolic that it overshadowed his talent in a lot of people's eyes, especially the mainstream fan. He was one of the greatest talents of his generation and easily a top ten musical talent all time. SFS is right...GM doesn't belong in the same discussion with Prince from a talent standpoint.

No, it's my considered opinion here.

I never could quite figure out Prince's intent. [Silly] comes to my mind then & still.

George put it & himself out there and it was pure.

We wore out "Make It Big" on roadtrips when I was a kid. That album is pop gold front to back. Never really cared for any of Wham's other stuff or much of his solo material, but the talent was undeniable.

In hindsight it's hard to believe he didn't come out as gay until 1998.

Last Christmas

It's ironic, but, I'll admit when I first saw this thread and title I honestly thought he'd died last Christmas and it was a reminder of the anniversary. I caught up when I saw the TV, but, still under the impression it was his actual last Christmas. Bear with me.

Yesterday afternoon I stopped in at a Goodwill and perusing the CDs I came across a 2005 compilation of Xmas songs put out by Bath & Bodyworks $1.99, original price tag of $21,99 still on the case...(The Perfect Christmas.) I had no idea he'd started with Wham. I didn't even know what Wham was until reading his obit. That 10th cut on a second disc is Wham-Last Christmas.

Now, I know.
